On this day (I remember because it was a family member's birthday), 19 years ago, when I started getting into anime, I finished watching Elfen Lied and was debating whether to watch One Piece or Mushishi which were two anime everybody was recommending.
I picked Mushishi because Ginko looked cool, but to think that I could have become a shounenshitter had I made a wrong decision. It really put things into perspective.

I never really watched or read One Piece. I just read up on it in the wiki, sample the good moments through YouTube clips, and watch some of the movies and even the live-action series for as long as I like it.

>you're just a tourist with no real connection to the fandom
Is this nigger serious?
Like who would care if they're acknowledged by a bunch of retards circlejerking together?
Every single proclaimed fandom in existence is just cancer, filled with mongrels needing a parasocial relation to a community to fill the void.
You're litterally a bunch of monkey who didn't manage to evolve past tribalism (like fans of a sport club).
I always shudder at the idea that, simply because we both enjoy some media, I could be associated to a fandom.
And some fools seek them instead of simply enjoying their media and maybe leisurely talking about it with some friends IRL.

>The most anti-otaku sentiment to ever be posted on an anime and manga board lol
Who cares, you gonna cry?
>Why do tourists like you even come here?
4chan is better than a circlejerk despite you retards.
But the cost to have soulful and interesting discussions is that sometimes, we need to put our hands in filth (You) to find the gem

>4chan is better than a circlejerk
Cirlejerking is exactly what you use /a/ for, you just want to circlejerk as a contrarian rather than as a fan
You've never contributed any sort of soulful or interesting discussion here, you just whine about things you don't like despite not having even read/watched them. Day after day you whine about popular and beloved media, despite not even engaging with it, and you never actually post about things you like because you're a tourist who doesn't read or watch anything.
That's why the board if flooded with filth like this thread that isn't about anime and manga but is just some blog post about personal grievances over some types of fiction being popular.

Nah, I'm here for reading volumes or daily chapters, I enjoy seeing the reactions of anons as comments for each page. Nice try though.

Lmao, what a great projection, you're just coping.
Only thing you know about my opinion is that i hate fandoms.
Where does it imply I read shit I don't enjoy or do any kind of stupid shit like what you mentionned? I'm not you heh.

Alright grandpa, stop ranting and stay on topic will you?
I know it's hard for someone who seems to have brain damage but as expected of a fandom defender.

>Grow with anime think nothing of it
>Has black friend who won't shut the fuck up about Naruto making me never watch it because I was tired of hearing it and I thought most anime was like that for awhile
>Only watches Bobobobo because it makes fun of shounen
>One night up late watching Cowboy Bebop
>Blows my like 12 year old mind makes me realize anime is all types of stuff and starts deep diving the medium
I'm glad I had that black friend or I could've became that too and won't have found a love for the medium.

He also knows you use /a/ to circlejerk as a contrarian, based on the terrible thread you just made.

This isn't my thread you retard.

And if you have to stoop to the point of using any grammatical error as a gotcha, you have already lost.

Same, dropped it after ~150, right before the sky island thing. Watched it because my friend literally begged me all the time, then realized I could use the time to actually finish and enjoy other animes again without extreme fillers.

Watching/reading battle shonen when you were younger doesn't mean you're going to stay with that stuff. Seems plenty of people do but Rurouni Kenshin, YYH, and One Piece were some early things I watched/read and I rarely read battle shonen anymore.

I feel like battle shounen is the only thing interesting about manga. There's a lot of great manga out there, but most of them come and go and all of them can be found in other mediums (novels, movies, etc.) Battle shounen is pretty unique to manga. When someone recommends something to me that isn't battle shounen I tend to blank out. I'm sure Frieren is nice and Attack on Titan is intriguing and Dorohedoro is gut-wrenching and CGDCT #3714 is funny...so are a million other things, in every other medium, which I could be watching/reading/playing instead. But battle shounen is its own thing. They're not stories, they're mass character reveals; characters with interesting designs and unique abilities which they then use to solve problems, such as by fighting other characters with interesting designs and unique abilities - but the important thing is that they can't "just do" anything or "just be" anything, they must fit into the world with its aesthetics and themes and their abilities must fit into the system of rules laid out by the author both mechanical and thematic. This makes the reader sit back in their chair and think, "I wonder what my Stand would be?" "I wonder what my Nen type is? What kind of ability would I create?" "Would I eat a Devil Fruit? Would I join a pirate crew? What would we be called? What would be our theme?" Successful battle shounen make readers want to live in their worlds and have their powers. It's the perfect escapism. They're like video games, specifically hero-based ones. And the thing everyone loves about those games is seeing the next character added. Yeah, I like Ichigo Mashimaro, too, but I never felt compelled to read it like I do battle shounen.

It is similar to capeshit, but there's a lot of differences that make capeshit less palatable.
1. Capeshit is always about vigilantes cleaning up the streets of Shithole City #89. I can't relate to that at all and I don't give two fucks about urban criminals. Nothing good comes out of cities.
2. Capeshit is not structured. There's no rhyme or reason to what powers characters can have or how they get them. That's fucking boring. Why bother fantasizing about something that has no limits? Just imagine yourself as having god powers and get it over with. You can solve any problem in the blink of an eye. That's fun or interesting? No, it isn't. This is also true for a lot of shounen, but I'm not talking about them. When I say "battle shounen," I'm talking about Dragon Ball, the Big 3, Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen and maybe a couple others. I'm not talking about fucking Seven Deadly Sins or whatever.
3. Battle shounen is ABOUT the power systems. Nobody would read Naruto if it was just a kid trying to save his friend from the dark side, the reason people like Naruto is because of Chakra. Capeshit is not about superpowers. Capeshit is about moral browbeating and political propaganda. Everyone knows the best capeshit is the X-Men and even that is bogged down in politics and homosexual undertones.
So yes, it is capeshit - but good. Except Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is like a wafer ice cream cone without ice cream in it.

I rather read or watch capeshit over shounen because at least there's variety you can get standard shit like Batman, funny shit like Tick, weird shit like Doom Patrol, horror shit like Ghost Rider, mature readers, for kids, sci fi, fantasy, etc Most shounen just Japan or Japan like place.

Well if I was in One Piece, I'd eat a legendary Mythical Zoan and be an unbeatable god. Which is something nobody ever said until like a couple years ago. Is One Piece still good battle shounen?
