Alright, it is Thursday and I am gonna post the second volume of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Yashahime (or Inuyasha) after the dump.

Yashahime was initially created as an anime-only sequel to Inuyasha by Sunrise. The designs of the main cast were provided by Rumiko Takahashi. I have not watched the anime. The manga adaptation was made after the first season and was written and drawn by Takashi Shiina, the creator of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and most likely the biggest Rumiko Takahashi fan in the world. As such, I decided to read and story time this series as well. My commentary will be sparse as I am completely new to the series, but I hope you enjoy the look into Shiina's take on the Inuyasha world.

Previous thread: >>287361104

I will be using the official localization of the manga by VIZ. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.

Furinkan says this cover was originally in full color. But yeah, not in the volume.

December 25th, 2021. Author's note:
"Volume 1 of the series is scheduled to be released around January 18th! Buy it!!"
>>
>>287502660
You probably remember these. Furinkan notes that: "A Bird of Paradise demon is called 極楽鳥/gokurakucho in Japanese. This literally translates to "bird of paradise"." Of course, I only remember them by the term VIZ used, which is harpies (even though it is not accurate).

Also known as Bone Boomerang.
>>
>>287502774
Who could this be?
>>
>>287502847
Ah, Hisui. The name mentioned before. Per Furinkan: "翡翠

"Hisui" is actually a noun for the Kingfisher bird. It also refers to a lustrous color similar to the kingfisher's feathers."
>>
>>287502892
You probably can use some context clues for who this is.

Also, per Furinkan: "In his blog post of November 29, 2021 Shiina states that with chapter four the next storyline will begin. He hints it will introduce an older Sango and the demon slayer village."
>>
>>287502986
There he is.
>>
>>287503179
Oh, they kept the harpy name here. Furinkan has a note regarding the guns. "When the demon slayers ask for payment they are chided saying that a new invention, the gun, has been introduced to Japan and their services may soon not be needed. Though the teppo (鉄砲), an iron tube with gunpowdered stuffed inside was introduced from China in 1270 CE, these made little impact in Japan due to their inaccuracy. It was not until matchlock firearms were introduced via the Portuguese in around 1543 CE that firearms had a transformational effect in Japan. These types of matchlock guns are referred to as "tanegashima" (種子島) or "hinawaju" (火縄銃)."

More Furinkan blog summaries: "In his blog post from December 14, 2021 Takashi Shiina stated that he wanted to have the girls journey to the west because that was where the Great Dog Demon ruled, though he admits he does not know specifically where "in the west" is located. He says the journey motif is common in shonen manga and it is used to parallel a character's emotional growth as the journey progresses towards its final destination.
Shiina states that the anime does not follow this journey-style story telling because it would remove the characters from Musashi's Domain where the Inuyasha characters are physically located. He says the complexities of the actual Sengoku geography and political situation add more complexity that he is not sure the anime wished to take into account, though he implies he would like to have some of those elements in his manga adaptation."

Did Inuyasha as a series ever mention the word ninja? Then again, I can't be sure if this is Shiina or VIZ.
>>
>>287504381
By the way OP. I dunno why, but at some point through the manga, all the sound effects like this 'SHINGGG!!' stop getting added, and the original kanji are left in with a small '(Shing!!)' beside it instead. I assume they switched translators midway through the series, but thought I would point it out.
>>
>>287504487
Sigh...

>>287504488
Oh, is that true in the volumes as well? Apparently for MAO, they only redraw sound effects for volume releases and keep the sound effects with notes in the chapter releases. I personally prefer the original sound effects with a note, but I understand why VIZ thinks it isn't great.
>>
>>287504487
There was a filler episode where some Ninja Girls stole equipment from Sango's village that hadn't been sanctified yet so the weapons could possess people like Tōkijin, and there was a small filler arc where a clan of Demon Ninja's were doing something, but that's all that comes to mind for me.

End of chapter. I can't fit all of Furinkan's blog summaries in this post, so I'll have to split it up. I don't know who Yawaragi is by the way. Also, Miroku, still? STILL?

"Shiina stated he was not sure if he would include Yawaragi in his adaptation because of the difference in Moroha's origins. He decided to include her and comments that Yawaragi's voice in the anime is Ryoko Shiraishi who played Aoi Nogami in his series Zettai Karen Children. He adds that Shiraishi is known for her Osaka accent and jokingly wonders if Yawaragi should speak that was as well.
Shiina also humbly advertises the first collected volume will go on sell January 18, 2021 and that it will have a dialogue between himself and Rumiko Takahashi. He states that if it was Takahashi's work he knows it would sell well but is less certain given that he is the creator of this piece. In his next blog post he mentions again that Shogakukan has said it will be a small initial print run and that he hopes he can say to them, "The number of copies of the first edition has been narrowed down to a small number, so maybe it will be out of stock ... I hope ... No, there will be people who want the book to be out of stock but can not get it. That's not good, but I hope I can tell Shogakukan with a slapstick face, "Hey !! You should have printed a little more, huh!? Hurry up the reprint it!!" There is also an electronic version, so if you can't buy it at the store, please consider that as an option in addition to ordering and ordering. Please buy it.""

Furinkan says this page was originally full color as well. Also, they mention that: "On January 8, 2022 on Twitter, Takahashi Shiina shared that he was rushed to the hospital with a severe stomach ache that he thought was appendicitis. It turned out he had kidney stones. He later quipped "Harry Potter and the Urinary Stones," and then made the final post for the day that Yashahime came on the TV as he was waiting for his medicine from the pharmacy he was going to try to sleep as his painkillers were wearing off and that the manuscript for chapter 5 was almost complete."

Furinkan gives you some history of the stuff being referenced here: "Ogigayatsu Hiiragi Danjo (扇谷柊弾正) - The Ogigayatsu (扇谷) clan are one of the three main branches of the Uesugi samurai clan (along with the Inukake and Yamanouchi). By the time of the Sengoku period when Inuyasha and later Yashahime take place the Ogigayatsu had come into conflict with Hojo Soun of the Hojo clan that was making in-roads into the Kanto region. The Ogigayatsu branch is ended with the death of Uesugi Tomosada. Other branches of the Uesugi clan would take up arms against the Hojo clan at this time, the most notable being Uesugi Kenshin.
Kikujumonji (菊十文字) - the name is written "chrysanthemum" and "10th letter". The Kikujumonji sword allegedly belonged to Ashikaga Yoshiteru (足利義輝) who would have died a few decades before the story of Inuyasha is set. He was the 13th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate. Yoshiteru was a master swordsman, which is why owning a sword said to have been his would be an incredible honor (Towa's sword however is an imitation). In real historical terms Ashikaga Yoshiteru's sword was not Kikujumonji, instead it was named "Mikazuki Munechika". This sword is currently in the Tokyo National Museum. The blade was made by the blacksmith Munechika. The "mikazuki" means "crescent moon" due to marks on the blade that were made during its tempering."

>>287504857
A very simplified way of explaining it would be saying it is a term for a familiar.
>>
>>287504947
Here's some more blog stuff Furinkan summarized for the previous chapter:

"Continuing in his blog from December 27, 2021 Shiina states that he hopes to show the world of the Sengoku era through Towa's eyes, but also wants to contextualize Sesshomaru through manga different characters and so he felt it was important to give Kohaku's history with Sesshomaru in this chapter. Shiina also wished to show that Kohaku still struggled with what Naraku made him do in the past while also giving him some distance from it as he did not wish for the story to go in that particularly dark direction.
Shiina states he wanted to show Kohaku on horseback because Kirara can only carry so many people and the horses may serve a future role in the series. He states that he felt Kohaku looked impressive on horseback and that in his own imagination Kohaku has named his horse "Kagura".
Shiina segues to discuss Kagura's famous death scene in the original manga and how he wished to focus on that. Shiina said he discussed this with Takahashi and decided to cut it down to just a simple rememberance so that the manga did not get sidetracked. He felt that a reference to Kagura was important because the way she lived her brief might be referenced in future developments he has for this series.
Shiina mentions including Koga in this chapter and that because it is a continuation of the anime he wished to include Ayame as well, however due to the page count he had to cut her out at this time."

>>
>>287504979
I assume this first line is mistranslated? Didn't one of the twins pull that sword out just now from their stockpile? Towa surely didn't find it.

Oh and another blog tidbit regarding the last chapter:
"Roughly a year and a half later in his blog Shiina addresses some "mistakes" that he made and fan responses to it. He states that he read on a comment on a mail-order book website criticizing the mention of Kohaku's awareness of Kagura's death when he was not present for it as depicted in this chapter. Shiina laughs and says "he must have been watching from a distance" though he adds that there are obviously fans that have been steeped in Inuyasha lore for years and years that are liable to catch these details he overlooks, though he will try his best to ensure such mistakes are very minimal."

>>
>>287505010
And here's Furinkan's blog summary of a post that came out around this time:

"In his January 14th blog post, Takashi Shiina stated that he could make the manga look more like Rumiko Takahashi's style if he wished as his wife was one of Rumiko Takahashi's former assistants. He explained he wanted his strengths to be shown and that if he suppressed his style to make it look more like Rumiko Takahashi's style it would lose what he felt he could bring to the manga.
He added that if he made it look like Takahashi's work rather than his own he worried that Takahashi might say "give me back the book, I'll just do it myself." He also states that he wanted to show Rumiko Takahashi's world through the eyes of an outsider. He compares this to Ryotaro Shiba's New History Taikoki (新史太閤記), a book that deals with Toyotomi Hideyoshi's rise from a farmer to a powerful warlord during the Sengoku era."

Per Furinkan: "The song Towa's cellphone plays is described by the sound onomatopoeia is "chara-chara papparapa". On Twitter Shiina explains that it is meant to be a song that was popular years ago but if it was meant to represent a specific song he thought it might be the Inuyasha main theme though he does not explain specifically which song that refers to. He added that when he googled "hit songs from 2015" he was surprised by how recent those songs seemed, but realized that junior high school aged girls would think those songs were "very old" by 2022."
>>
>>287505200
Another Furinkan note: "Shiina also explained that the outdoor magazine that Sota is reading is a 2015 era issue of Shogakukan's Be-Pal."

They don't mention the Sharihime here, which appears to be a reference to Mermaid Saga. 舎利姫 or The Ash Princess was one of the stories of that series. I don't think it would make for great preschool reading material.
>>
>>287505260
Another Furinkan description of a tweet. "Shiina tweeted that the scene where Moroha enjoys the instant ramen was meant to be a reference to Inuyasha's joy at having ramen in the original series."

This is also just a classic gag in a lot of series (though I don't think it came up in the original Inuyasha manga). I don't know what refillable means in this context.

>>287505459
I still don't know who this is by the way. Apparently, the anime introduced her and Shiina wasn't sure if he wanted to include her but decided to. So, enjoy. Also, here's another Furinkan note:
"In the manga adaptation Yawaragi speaks with a Kansai accent. For instance she introduces herself saying せや (seya/that's right). This is the Kansai way of saying そうだ (souda/that's right). Shiina explained that he wanted her to speak with a Kansai accent before Yawaragi's voice actress Ryoko Shiraishi is known for doing so (and played Aoi Nogami in the anime adaptation of Shiina's Zettai Karen Children where she also used a Kansai accent)."
>>
>>287505485
I believe the name Hachi is an anime invention but this is following that continuity. More or less.

>>287505461
I mean, I'll be honest, I consider Inuyasha a complete work so like Shiina, I sort of treat this as a "what if" as well. And even with just these chapters, I do see some minor characterization aspects that I don't agree with. But we'll see how it goes long term and it isn't a big deal one way or another. I'll ignore anyone who spams or is overtly hostile, but expressing distaste for these works is what it is. I've dealt with worse.

Per Furinkan: "When Hachiemon leads Miroku to Jaken the little demon is close to dying. Miroku mentions that demons have no need of their last rites. The word he uses is "nenbutsu" (念仏). The Nenbutsu is chanting "Namu Amida Butsu" ("His name is Amida Buddha"). It is believed to be one of the easiest ways to gather good karma for a positive reincarnation in the Pure Land."

>>287505582
You'll fit right in then.
>>
>>287505617
Per Furinkan: "The healer that Miroku summons is Otoya from MAO, the series that Rumiko Takahashi was writing at the time this chapter was published. Miroku tells Otoya to thank his master. In the manga Mao, Otoya's master, is an expert doctor of demons. Mao is also practically an immortal having lived since the Heian era and he would have been alive during the Sengoku era."

I'll be honest, I see it now but I did not put two and two together when reading because this sort of thing would obviously not fly in Rumiko Takahashi's manga. But Shiina already had UY take place in the same universe somehow so just think of it as a cute nod. Fans love putting Rumic stuff in one universe and Shiina is the biggest fan after all.

So, here's some of Furinkan's summary of Shiina's blog posts:

"In his blog Takashii Shiina discusses the debut you Beniyasha and the thougth that went into her design, which he said he consulted with Rumiko Takahashi on. He also mentions that there is no Rainbow Pearl in her rouge since in his adaptation the pearls are in the bodies of each of the girls.
Shiina explains that the rouge was an anime-only item that did not appear in the manga, but he explains that it is one of the best stories of the anime and recommends watching episode 147 and episode 148 to readers.
Takashi Shiina explains that in the original anime episodes the rouge is lost and he did not want to spend time coming up with a reason for the rouge to be restored and given to Moroha. He states, "please understand that Moroha's rouge is "Izayoi's Rouge" (不知夜の紅) rather than her grandmother's "Izayoi's Rouge" (十六夜さまの紅/Izayoi no beni), with the two rouges pronounced the same way but spelled with different kanji."

http://cnanews.asablo.jp/blog/2022/02/25/

As a manga-only guy, I have no clue what the deal is with the rouge, but I can see why those episodes might've been well done given the brief summary I glanced at.

The blog details things that don't happen until Volume 5, so I'm hesitant to link to it directly. But this is the specific part you're looking for.
>殺生丸さまはそのつもりで豪華な屋敷と使用人の無女を用意してて、でもりんちゃんがなんとなく「楓さまやもろはちゃんと一緒なのも賑やかで楽しいかも・・」って風なのを察してそのように。そしてフタを開けてみたら現代人のかごめちゃんのスタイルと価値観に(あれ? そういうものなのか・・?)みたいな。
>Sesshomaru-sama had originally intended to provide a lavish estate and a retinue of servants for her; however, sensing that Rin-chan seemed to feel—ever so slightly—that "living together with Kaede-sama and Moroha-chan might actually be quite lively and fun," he arranged things accordingly. Yet, once everything was set in motion, he found himself confronted with the modern sensibilities and values of Kagome-chan—leaving him thinking, "Huh? Is *that* really how things are supposed to be...?"
With this, plus a few things said in the chapter this blog was referring to, essentially the mansion we see here >>287505667 was what Sesshōmaru prepared for Rin, but she specifically wanted to raise the twins in the same village as Kaede and Kagome instead.

End of chapter. Here's more of Furinkan's summary of Shiina's blog posts:

"He explains in the blog that Yawaragi has been a great help to him in adjusting the story of the comicalize from the anime and again mentions that Yawaragi is played by "his Ai-chan" (Ryoko Shiraishi plays Ai in the anime adaptation of Shiina's Zettai Karen Children).
Gaga Gozen from episode 20 also appears. Shiina states he was happy to be able to include Gaga Gozen despite having to omit the Half-Demon Village story. He says he altered Gaga Gozen's appearance and speech to make the character "more like Lady Gaga". For clarity sake, Gaga Gozen (蛾ヶ御前) can be translated as "Lord Moth".
He goes on to say that Rumiko Takahashi was very pleased with the scene of Towa "hitting her Yasha switch" in this chapter.
Finally he goes on to explain that in the Yashahime anime Totetsu was said to have something "like the Wind Tunnel" and Shiina wanted to explore Miroku's conflicted feelings of no longer having his Wind Tunnel by simply making Totetsu explicitly have a Wind Tunnel and having Miroku fight him. Shiina says he hopes to explore those feelings but will have a page limit that will dictate how much he can devote to exploring that aspect of the story."
>>
This is another Shiina redraw of Rumiko Takahashi art. The cover of this issue had her art, so the chapter has his version of it. This page was also originally in full color.

The rosary/prayer beads are known as 念珠 (nenju) or 数珠 (juzu)."

By the way, per Furinkan: "凱風

Yawaragi is written with kanji that can be read as "gaifuu" (southern wind). Yawaragi's attack is "Gaifuu Kaisei" (凱風快晴). This is the name of a famous ukiyo-e print by Hokusai that is often translated as "Fine Wind, Clear Morning". The more literal translation would be "South Wind, Clear Sky". Appropriately Yawaragi's name is written the same way as "south wind" (凱風)."
>>
>>287508627
I'll be honest, this raises a lot of questions for me that googling around didn't answer. Seems like not a lot of people really discuss Shiina's take on Yawaragi which appears to be pretty different than the original depiction. In some ways, I expected the anime to have explained this but no, it seems that Yawaragi was essentially telling the truth regarding her origin but was functionally a ghost? I don't really get why she took the pearl either. Maybe one of you Yashahime experts can clarify or maybe it gets explained later on.

I'll be honest, reading this manga with limited knowledge of what is original and what isn't has lead to some of its emotional moments not quite hitting for me. This is not really a fault of the manga but it is a little annoying.

More stuff from Furinkan explaining stuff from the blog:

"Regarding showing Setsuna sleeping, Shiina stated, "Oh, and about Setsuna-chan sleeping peacefully in the epilogue. Originally, the reason for changing the setting was that "in order to depict the fact that the princesses cannot sleep, it is necessary to depict scenes in which they sleep, but it would not be possible to show too many scenes in the manga," and "if I do show scenes in which they sleep, it will probably be when I need to express , so I want all three of them to sleep. In a situation like this, it would not be a bad idea to have "Setsuna-chan, who is equally tired but cannot sleep, next to Moroha and Towa, who are both asleep after exerting all their strength," but by changing the setting, we were able to create "a parental generation watching their children sleeping after exerting all their strength. It's the kind of thing they used to do in Zettai Karen Children.
Shiina states that despite in interest in drawing Naraku he feels that the characters intentionally do not speak of his name because it is "unclean" and a bad memory for everyone. They instead choose to focus on more positive aspects so he is not sure he will reference Naraku.
He concludes this blog entry by saying he promises to have a bath scene in the next chapter "but we'll see what the rights holders will say," he jokes. He says this sort of a scene is an important aspect of manga and anime."

The first bit is bewildering to me, but I assume this is something related to the anime? Not sure.

Okay since the dump is over I will now do as I promised and point out all the OOCness and general weird inconsistencies I see fit, alongside my general thoughts:

>>287363294
>that framing

You know it’s funny how Sessrin shippers like to constantly bleat about how they only ship “adult Rin” with Sesshomaru and are not at all lolicons and pedos yet they constantly do shit like this, also OOC strike number 1 with even daring to imply that THIS Sesshomaru would ever lower himself as to groom the human child in his care, good job Shiina! /s

>>287363327
>Depicting Kagome as being envious of the Sessrin relationship when canon Kagome is disgusted with pedos and would’ve murdered Sesshomaru on the spot if she found out he ever tried to touch Rin, hell so would Inuyasha for that matter. No way would they be so non-chalant about all this when they were disgusted upon hearing Miroku tried to groom an 11 year old Koharu

OOC strike number 2! Also Kagome is Inuyasha’s biggest cheerleader and knows what a sore spot it is for him to be compared to his brother and would never do so even as a joke, so there’s yet another instance of characters behaving OOCness
>>
>>287510143
>>287363916
One thing I will give the Yashahime manga credit for over the anime is that at least it had the good sense of having Grandma Higurashi fawn over her ACTUAL granddaughter Moroha instead of acting all blase about her like in the anime and only worrying about Towa, Miroku and Sango for that matter only worried about the Sesshomaru’s twins in the anime while practically ignoring their best friends’ daughter which I always found incredibly ridiculous and a not so subtle attempt at Sesshomaru wanking so I’m glad the manga at least tones that down if nothing else.

>>287364272
>Sessrin family cover
Ah yet another typical display of Rumiko passive-aggressive behavior, she’ll go along with something due to fan or peer pressure for the money, but if that thing goes against her original intentions or wishes, she’ll make her true thoughts known in the most bitchy, petty way possible lol. Here we see Exhibit A of what Rumiko really thinks of the Sessrin ship when she goes as far as to dress Rin up in Kagura’s kimono, well played there Rumiko, well played, kek.

>>287364333
>Miroku being so impatient and blowing up on a crying little kid like that
This feels OOC too…

>>287367265
>Rumiko admits during her dual interview with Shiina that Sesshomaru is a solitary character
Which is why it’s OOC for him to get together with ANYONE let alone the human child he’s the legal guardian of (Rumiko’s words).
>>
>>287510143
>>287510459
>>287504654
>Kohaku thinking to himself how Sesshomaru “falling in love with” and marrying Rin had to mean altering his entire nature
Kohaku calling out what the entire audience is thinking and outright saying that this entire concept makes Sesshomaru OOC, correct Kohaku, which is why Yashahime will never be canon and is just an officially licensed fanfic.
>>
>>287505450
>>287505485
>Koga didn’t pawn Moroha off onto some literal who Wolf Tribe member who then sold her into slavery
Thank god the manga managed to fix this atrocious plot point, at least it’s keeping Koga relatively IC compared to the anime even as it character assasinates everyone else. The anime expecting us to believe that Koga, the biggest Kagome simp would just let that happen to his beloved Kagome’s precious daughter under HIS watch was particularly egregious.

>>287505695
>Sesshomaru is now the King of all Demons
Like all Sessrin fanfics the fanon “Lord of the West” headcanon must somehow always rear it’s head…

>>287506753
>Sango orginally thought Towa was like Kagome
Oh here we go, it seems not even the manga is safe from the unnatural Sesshomaru centering and glazing even though it does seem to be a bit better with it when compared to Sumisawa’s writing… What on earth would make Sango think Towa is anything like Kagome aside from a very forced and unnatural comparison of them both having happened to have grown up in the modern era? And why would she compare SESSHOMARU’S daughter of all people to Kagome instead of Kagome’s own daughter who, y’know, was right there in front of her all along? And Moroha does in fact take quite a bit after Kagome too, in fact I’m of the opinion she takes after Kagome slightly more in temperament/disposition/personality than she even does Inuyasha.
>>

Furinkan mentions that: "The duo also did an interview with Comics Natalie at the time as well discussing one another's careers."

Some portions of this interview were included in this volume actually, but not all of it. I'll post the pages included in the volume. The rest is translated here: https://furinkan.com/takahashi/takahashi47.html

Also here, enjoy the houseboat story:

"Do you remember the first time you two met?
Takahashi: A houseboat?

Shiina: That's right. We were having a drinking party for fellow manga artists on a houseboat, and when Takahashi-sensei came to visit, it was the first time I got to say hello. But after that, it wasn't as if we were in frequent contact. We don't have the same kind of relationship. From my point of view, Takahashi-sensei is my senior. I would often visit her at work to take my wife (who used to be Rumiko Takahashi's assistant) to and from school, but it was always very exciting.

Takahashi: Yes, I felt that too.

Everyone: (laughs)

Takahashi: When we sit there and start talking, it's really fun, so we sometimes end up talking for a long time. It's not as if we interacted frequently.

Shiina: Yes. But manga artists are always watching each other's work, so even if we don't see each other, we are somehow connected. My fellow mangaka from the same period, we hardly see each other, but it's not like we're estranged.

Takahashi: Even if we don't communicate with each other, I can sense that "you look good" or "this is what you're thinking about now"."

>>
>>287510731
Last bit included in the volume. Feel free to check out Furinkan's translation of the rest. Here's some more stuff from Furinkan:

"On your blog, Shiina-sensei you wrote that you wanted to "increase the degree of collaboration with Inuyasha and give it a slightly stronger Japanese dark fantasy flavor. Please tell us how you came up with this concept.

Shiina: Basically, I was planning to draw the story based on the anime version, but in order to fit the story into the fixed pages of the manga, I had to cram in a certain amount of stories and elements. When I was thinking about what to use as the axis of the arrangement, I came up with the idea that the main character, Towa-chan's design like the heroine of Takarazuka indicates that she is a resident of the story world, and that she is a child who wandered into the present from the world of the story Inuyasha, and that I should return her to the original world. I thought of making a story about returning her to the world she came from. That would fit in with the theme I like of people who feel uncomfortable in society finding a place to belong, so I built the story around that.

Takahashi: I had the image that "comicalization" was a process of creating a manga based on an anime, and I thought that it would require techniques to shorten a long anime. However, Shiina-san took the interesting aspects of the anime and transformed it into a manga. It's completely unexpected, and it's also very interesting. It's already a Shiina-san manga, and I'm very grateful for that."

Most of the new characters that the anime introduced have absolutely nothing to do with their manga counterparts other than design and name. We’re only in volume 2 and the story has already completely diverged from what the anime did, so really, don’t feel like you are being left out of the loop or anything. If you have questions they will probably get answered in a later chapter.

>>287508678
In the anime, Setsuna’s curse was that she can’t sleep at night, not that she couldn’t feel joy. But she still behaved like she couldn’t feel joy anyway, and not needing to sleep in the Sengoku Jidai isn’t actually much of a curse. So I assume that’s why Shiina changed it.

women have always preferred outbreeding. female sexuality revolves around submission to an external force and "liberating themselves from the control of their father". father being both literal and figurative; representing their clan/culture/society. it's a consequence of sexual selection; historically when a rival tribe would raid the village the women who were loyal to their clansmen would be killed whilst those who betrayed their clan would be allowed to live in the raiders' harems. this is why women all fantasise about rape and why incest is a strongly male-coded fetish. Men want to have sex with their daughters, women want to be raped by the man their father hates the most.
