Because Denji has a target on his back permanently that don't allow him to live happy this due everyone wanting to use him, ruin his life to bring CSM Black or want to kill him. Also Denji is using the identity of CSM as mental armor and way to avoid his issues, Denji being CSM is holding back his growth and preventing to enjoy his dreams when he reaches them, Pochita knew this very well and gave Denji another chance for him to be finally be happy without anyone using him for their plans or wanting to kill him.

There's an interesting message in there, the execution is the problem. If this had been written better and with more lead-up, it would've been more acceptable. The sudden end that intentionally closed all chances to resolve any previous questions is what people hate. Because it just happens and unambiguously says "its over, I'm not explaining ANYTHING" it leaves a terrible feeling that leads people to believe that Fujimoto just gave up and wanted out from Chainsaw Man as a whole. That's probably true as well.

Part 2 Denji was a completely broken person from the very beginning, who never even once resembled his earlier self.
But that change wasn't introduced in Part 2, but in Part 1 after he went to the Kishibe bunker.
His CSM obsession was the cope that kept him going, and even though he did a few good things despite that, it was clearly a self-destructive path.

People who saw Denji kill Aki to save a few innocent bystanders, then saw Denji caring only about showing off when fighting Yuko while students were dying left and right, and thought this meant Denji had developed in a positive way somehow.
