I think it was proportionally more SoL than S1. It's just that S1 SoL was more memorable, there's really no equivalent to the ring scene, or the ball, or flower searching or Grandpa Voll. You will hate S3 though.

It was okay, but while making it a single cour might make sense long term considering the manga is in a hiatus hell, so the can't burn through the material exactly, it really hurst the season itself. There were some good stories in there, but no great ones. Though one thing that irked me was the silhouette autism. The manga doesn't give a shit and will just show you character when it naturally makes sense even if they're "hype", but the anime will blacken everyone out to add artificial mystery.

I lost my place in the fight with Jimmy Four-Swords I wasn't invested in at all and I ended up dropping the whole thing
They stopped doing the fun family guy skits and acted like they earned a namek, and they couldn't even deign to make James sexy for us like Aura and Lugner

>10 episodes in
>Denken hype for 2nd half of the season
>Actually that was the last episode
FUCK why is this season so short compared to S1?
>>
>>287520711
A popular theory is that it's because of the manga being in a hiatus hell. If they animated the Denken arc right now, they would have 43 chapters left, but 22 of that is an unfinished arc in the middle of a battle. So really they would have 21 chapters, so they could reasonably plan for a one-cour season in 2028... and then who knows what, we don't know if the current arc will even finish by then. Right now they can pace themselves better with Denken arc being late 2027, these 21 chapters fitting nicely for a cour somewhere in 2029, an by then there's a better chance things have moved.

I don't know why shounen has to do this "we don't have time / money / material / just want to hold back the good stuff to do the big arc you've heard of, but get hype for next season when we'll do the big arc you've heard of!" thing. Less this but what if I haven't heard of it? All you're doing is wasting my time. If you can't put together a cohesive satisfying story right now, why do anything at all? If you're contractually obligated to put something out this season, then make it clearer that I don't have to take it seriously. Why not something that's just the SoL antics people like? The LycoReco shorts last year were great

Mage exam started around about the last third of S1, with stage 1 and 2 being the out and out battle portions, most of this season was taken up by the revolte battle
I think a better way to frame my argument is that I preffered pre exam to post since if we go strictly by season proportionality is unfair (28 eps vs 10)
>>287522247
revolte dragged, I was rolling my eyes at the asspull level during it, sure prev battles also had some pulls but not quite as much

letdown. not bad, but a letdown. i felt like stark recovered from his fight against 4 arm snake man too easily and there was never any mention of being left to fight him with chuuni angelwing guy while frieren fern and methode dicked around fighting 2 warmup trash mobs. Personally i'd be fucking pissed that they waltzed back over without so much as a hey sorry for leaving you to it.

>frieren fern and methode dicked around fighting 2 warmup trash mobs
That was weird, I though that Frieren went away to let those two to deal with the flash mob and help Stark and whatshisname against snake guy, but no, she just stand there dicking around while those two back in the town were getting killed.

Revolte was literally 3/10 episodes of which 1 barely had any fighting. And you're forgetting the other fightfag arc that was Aura which was actually longer than Revolte and had more fighting.

Season 3 is the best arc, Sousou no Denken rules. Though be warned it's literally just one serious arc so there's very little in terms of SoL.

It's irritating how much this loser gets glazed when we've already seen Frieren beat his ass effortlessly. Before any idiots try and gas him up more by saying how string Frieren is, she's almost died to the most random shit this season like fucking octopus and dogs and that one old golem boomer rekt her too. So stop hyping up this retarded jobber!
>>

>>287524901
power levels aren't an actual thing like that, anon. Frieren might have more mana and experience but she's weirder and less stable and more prone to making mistakes, while Denken is more steadfast and serious, not to mention that he's a man and Frieren is a sexy mature lady. Not to be sexist, but fighting a defensive battle to protect a singular, known, living asset is just a thing that women are more apt to win at, as opposed to trying to defeat magic daddy.

>hating on "I cast fist"
I like broken characters, I like older people having regrets and trying to redeem themselves. Lernen is similar and still a bit unused but I expect him to have a glorious moment too.

No. He's a pathetic overhyped jobber.

Would've been AOTY (and might still be, this year sucks) if they actually adapted the next big arc instead of cutting it to 1/3rd the length of the first season. Ridiculous. Still, I enjoyed it a lot. Thought it was just as good as the first season, and definitely better for Stark. But not enough happened to move things forward like the first season did.

Pretty weak until the end where it picks up, I don't even think it should be considered a season 2 but just be added to season 1's 28 episodes

why do they keep comparing her with demons ? either directly when she interacts with flamme or indirectly

it's a fantasy story; native isekai isn't a thing. it's not isekai unless someone is transported from another world.
>A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court
isekai
>The Lord of the Rings
fantasy
see how that works?

demons are a device to examine human nature.
In that world, they are PARALLEL to humans, but distinct from them. But humans struggle with the the concept of convergent evolution with humanoids not eventually resolving to the human path. (Try as they might, demons never becoming exactly like humans)

yeah but that's not isekai, native or otherwise. isekai is not defined by video game mechanics. i hate to cite wikipedia but words have meanings. let's not do violence to language by inventing meanings because so many anime, especially isekai, has childish video game shit in it.
frieren has practically no video game mechanics outside of that map that looked a whole lot like a HUD map in season 1. aside from that one scene it's been very organic, if not the most imaginative fantasy world, it certainly qualifies as fantasy.

Season 2 didn't have any major arcs and was mostly made of a transitional SoL journey, filled with small themes and messages. The third season will be a a single continuous major arc that will probably go for 12 episodes. If you liked what they briefly showed in the last episode with Denken, then you will like the whole arc.
>>
>>287530904
Yes just video-gamey at times. That fight with Revolte where at one point he was able to have complete map awareness easily parrying both stark and gaynau from back and front..until he doesn't. Almost as if his aggro meter got filled by stark that he just had to focus on stork mmmkkkay?
>>
>>
>>287531533
What do you mean? I just opened this thread and I am agreeing with that anon. Video game mechanics is a lazy narrative decision but not every lazy narrative decision is bideo game mechanic. The Revolte fight leaves enough wiggle room for it to just be awful and lazy, not necessarily bideo game-ized.

I liked the adaptation. It put a good focus on Stark after he was absent for much of the previous arc and the episodic stories played to the series' strengths. The adaptation also did a great job of highlighting the human element during the two episodes fighting the demons. The voice acting and subtle details emphasized the characters' humanity even in tense atmospheres opposite the cocky, sociopathic demons.
