Why don't the people who want more relevant girls in battle shonen just watch magical girls instead? It's basically the gender-flipped version of the same genre.

Fewer women watch anime so anime meant to appeal to them will almost always be less popular. Consequently, battle shonen, which almost always appeal more to men, are talked about more and are the first thing many people think of when they think of anime.
The people who complain that there aren't enough women in popular battle shonen want it to appeal to their minority while simultaneously being hugely popular with everyone else.

I want a story where both men and women get to be cool and relevant, and I've watched Symphogear already.

Tres magia is for molestation and public humiliation ONLY

I think maybe they don't want to just watch one type of show for that fix, or they don't like the designs of most magical girls. Plus being frank magical girls are shoved at girls at every single opportunity, so it's not like they don't know they exist. Expanding their breadth to shoujo in general might help, but if they were looking for the kind of characterization and tone of a danseimuke action series and shoujo action simply did not meet that need, then there's nothing one can do about that

Because the entire genre has been ruined and turned into something only for toddlers and yuritranny incels thanks to Toeislop and Madoka.

Because most magical girl shows (i.e. princession orchestra/pripara/precure) are aimed at toddlers?

Shonen might be brainrotted but it is aimed at an older demographic.

BURIN BURIN BURIN

Unironically more soul in that stupid flying pig than 90% of modern “gritty” magical girl deconstructions.

You zoomers asking for recs and then pretending magical girls peaked at Madoka need to go back and watch when the genre was comfortable being goofy, episodic and sincere. Tonde Burin is literally a salaryman magical girl in pig form and still manages to have more heart than your edgelord spec-ops flavor of the month.

>dismisses mahou shoujo as toddler bait
>refuses to watch the one about a middle schooler turning into a crime-fighting pig

You don’t actually want variety, you want shounen but pink.

Also Burin clears Azul.

Modern "gritty" mahou shoujo "deconstructions" are actually based because they are usually so bad they turn into entertaining edgeslop

>Also Burin clears Azul.
Kinda unfair since Burin is Superman as a magical girl pig
