In a social interaction/conversation when someone says something you don't like and you say something extreme to shut it down in response that you don't actually stand with that generally ends up making everything worse

Take for example this convo

p1 I'm really thinking about going out to the spot, I heard that girl you like is going there too as well

p2 Nope I don't like her at all don't get any ideas

p1 You sureeee..

p2 Yeah I'm sure infact she's super ugly

The girl overheard and now she's crying in the bathroom p2 doesn't even believe she's ugly but he really wanted to shut that conversation down and made stuff worse in the process

I see stuff like this happen a bit there should be a specific word for it

Maybe something relating to low impulse control idk?

Shock pivoting? I get what you mean, ive done this before, but yeah, I don't think there's a specific word for it.
>that generally ends up making everything worse
It could also just be to change the subject, not necessarily fated to make things worse. Ive done this with parents saying embarrassing shit about me in front of people to get them to stop.

I asked Claude, and it suggested "overcorrection" and "defensive escalation"
