Once boomers die, revaluation will occur, and much of those gains will be revealed to have been a shared fiction, designed to speak the should of productivity to bolster money living standards. I wouldn't go nearly that far, but when I was a kid in the 70's, we (parents and 2 children) lived in a 1250 sq ft house (3 bdr, 1 1/2 bath) and it was fine. The first house my wife & I bought was very similar. You absolutely do not need a mcmansion in a gated community, that's a "nice to have", not a "must-have".

I think it's more because the average Atlantic reader is an LLM scraping the article to summarize it for another Atlantic 'journalist' to 'write' her own piece (by prompting an LLM) and this process just kind of sands down language and description until we end up with articles written using only the most common 100 English words.
Eternally grateful that while my parents and grandparents don't really have anything to leave us materially, they weren't retards. Being born to a married man and woman, without substance use or gambling problems, that don't hate each other, and actually raised their kids is colossal advantage. That and being told to only go to college if the degree will actually lead to a real job. (glad I never touched CS, lol)
