You got to understand that when /biz/anons were told to leave their emotions at the door in order to start trading they completely ignored it and have no one but themselves to blame. I'm not rich enough to slurp all the opportunities but there was so much stuff you could buy and then sell a week later for a tidy profit or hold for longer just by looking at what the indicators were doing.

Don't worry, bloodthirsty nihilists. Just a round of post of Walter Bloomber, Axios and The Kobeissi letter and we'll have another pump.
This is gonna end so bad.
>>
>>62121359
Today was unironically the pivot point though. Screenshot this post. If that wasn't clear enough, 90s is the low point in the foreseeable future. It will go down at some point, but this is the floor for the coming months. Not saying it'll go to 150 either, that was always dumb and wouldn't last anyway, demand destruction would occur. But buying oil companies that got dumped -10% recently, and will have good earnings AND good divies + exceptional divies is a comfy play for the next few months.
>>
>>62121351
VIX being low just means realized vol has been greater than implied, ie calls were cheap on the way up since the move wasn't priced in. This is the kind of situation I thought you'd make money in since the market has been more volatile than expected.
What are you doing exactly? If you're SHORT vol I'd understand not making money on this volatility.

then you don't make money when it's volatile! you do the opposite man lol. so not making in the last week makes total sense, you need implied vol > realized vol, and last 7 days we had the opposite and it was more volatile than expected.

I'm genuinely worried for Iran. They're fighting two of the most barbaric, savage nations the world has ever seen and literally nobody is helping them. The US would happily bomb every single power plant in Iran and suffer zero consequences. It's just not a fair fight.

The market is bisexual and bipolar, the best fuck. Today's top is tomorrow's bottom. So sayeth Biztrodamus.
You will always regret selling, you will always be pained holding, you will always be too eager to buy. Accept that emotional toil is the true cost of playing markets, sit back, long GRRR and let it all play out.
The chuddha's not laughing because the world is going his way.
He smiles, because the world is just going.

Pretty sure bombing back the GCC states' oil industry would make the US, and everyone else for that matter, suffer consequences. A lot of people would then be advised to make sure they get a good place under a bridge to pitch their tent, those places are far and few between

How you profit will depend on what you're trading of course. Obviously if you're short VIX it keeps dropping, then yeah of course you'd make money on it. But VIX is implied vol not realized. And any rate this is all short vol.
When you said 'I make money on volatility', I assumed you meant you made money when it's volatile, so it didn't make sense initially, but it sounds like you're a thetagang style vol trader where you're actually short vol..
>>62121428
Part of it is the weighting doing that (a lower strike ends up being a larger weight since it's calculated as 1 / strike^2), so OTM puts get more weight than OTM calls) but as you know puts also naturally run at a higher premium (for equities anyway). IDK much about VIX trading but I do know it has weird second order effects that can make it particularly complicated / special cased. But you're saying calls on VIX wouldn't print if VIX spiked?

i gave up on trading because i did a seven year performance review and it indicated i underperformed the market for the trouble. if i worked really hard and was really careful I could beat it slightly. some years. and not long term.
so i just dca now. 2x because it's slightly less boring.
>>
>>
>>
>>62121478
No I'm just saying I think that anons point of VIX only making money on downside vol is correct, your saying it's been volatile because you see volatility increasing on calls, which while true does not translate into realized volatility on VIX is my understanding due to the put weighting. So yes, calls on VIX would print if it went up, but it doesn't go up when the market goes up, and anon probably incorrectly said he was short vol.

>your saying it's been volatile because you see volatility increasing on calls
I meant that the SPX itself had been very volatile in the last seven days. Calls were therefore cheap. I didn't realize he was trading and referring to VIX until he mentioned it. But yeah otherwise in agreeance there

What is concerning in the move is the lack of volume following through, see >>62121590. The golden line is a 30 day rolling VWAP. It hasn't even bounced back since the lows, and the spread between the 200SMA (blue line), 30RVWAP and price is huge right now.
These eventually all converge, so either price comes down a bit or the volume over time gets pulled up, either through prolonged crabbing or more bullish activity. But given the extreme movements and total lack of volume following the move, I'd bet on price mean reverting down from here..
Note I'm not saying these indicators have any predictive ability, just that they do technically have to converge eventually and that when considering the RVWAP, volume has not been buying into this rally.

You really shouldn’t be able to handle money in the first place if you’re buying calls at these levels.
The casino does not make money on low volume constant rises.
It should be extremely obvious you that there is a massive 2008 level shortage of liquidity and that making money doesn’t matter, all that matters is that on the books these assets are valued at a high enough price not to trigger total financial meltdown and margin calling

Currently looking into it since there does seem to be a recent increase in interest in it. The big man himself, Rick Rule, has mentioned uranium but it was alongside more common stuff like copper and silver. I've been watching uranium recently and it has been increasing steadily though it has always been volatile; good purchase if you're playing the really long game I'm guessing. I also know scandium is hot amongst some penny stock redditors so think of that what you will.

Yeah I definitely see more downside than up here in the short term. I'll have to read the room if/when it drops and decide from there.. Plunge protection team has made it pretty clear they don't want this to tank, especially with midterms around the corner. Seems like the war can't come at the expense of the markets.
But with volume so light it's hard to say what the market is really pricing right now, aside from elevated uncertainty. I don't put much faith in the resiliency of current prices with volume being so thin, and all the factors that caused the drop in the first place are still there and only worse now, but market will just forward-look past whatever it doesn't like...

We haven't posted any of our highest IQ stock analysis material yet
Stocks will keep going up at least until they start going down again. We will know for sure when that happens because price changes will switch from an upward direction to a downward one. The main indicator that we can use to identify this switch is that we will begin to see stock prices falling instead of rising. That will tell us when returns on stocks have changed from positive to negative. Because returns are currently positive, that means the value of stocks is growing rather than shrinking. However, if returns switch to negative, then the value of stocks will shrink rather than grow. Thus, the prices at which stocks are bought and sold will be going down instead of going up. Until then though, stock values will continue moving upward rather than downward.

you think it's just gonna slow crab upward from here or what? I dont' know if the market will continuing ignoring the bad news once the war actually escalates and so far it's looking increasingly likely. Maybe we don't see the downtrend into mid July and drop so low but I'd be surprised if we don't retest $650 on actual bad news.

Market will also react to events that force repricing, right now it's pricing in the oil supply shock being a nothingburger.
>And real talk, how many 2 more weeks until you are 2 more weeked out?
Not sure what you mean, 'two weeks' is what's been holding the market UP, not holding it back. Once two weeks loses its luster and boots are actually on the ground over the weekend, it can drop back to $650s pretty quick imo.

Kill what? The market or the bearishness of the war?

I mean it happened last month. It only stopped happening two weeks ago. To some extent, the energy crisis should cause some forced, mechanically driven repricing that I don't think is being fully reflected right now..

Stalemate would hurt the market, a lot.
I hear your thesis, I dont think its bad. I just know 9/10 dips Anons call never materialize.
I'd agree 20% odds it comes off 20%. There is more downside potential than up.
Its just Ive been here since 2007 and biz since 2017 and I can not stress enough nothing ever happens, except when it does.
>>
>>
>>62122181
>I just know 9/10 dips Anons call never materialize.
Yeah I know, I see it too and I've been here since the pre-/biz/ days. And I know I'm right on the cusp of being a narrative baggie waiting for my promised event to materialize.
Initially I thought a stalemate would be the worst case, and I think in terms of oil supply shock it is, but the market keeps loving the 'two more weeks' posts from the POTUS.. So there's a disconnect there.
I'm not expecting a giga-happening, but this run to $700 can fade easily on bad news. All I'm holding out for is the eventual forced repricing of the oil supply shock. I suspect it will hurt SPX's price, but it's possible it doesn't. Right now the situation is still totally unresolved so it's worth waiting out and at least having downside protection. I'm net short right now though.
