Desert wrote out the major plot points that he wanted to see, I wrote the character interactions and all story in-between the major points. I'm also the one who is in charge of all the religious portions in the comic.

Maybe I should elaborate more because my thinking on this is a bit weird. Sometime ago I conceived of a cross over between HS and Elder Scrolls mainly through the contorversial out of game and non "canon" text known as C0DA which deals with the concept of canon but more importantly to this the concept of godhood, creation of a new world and escape of the old. This is acived mainly through a process known as AMARANTH, union of two people to create the new world and giving birth to the nu-men (new men), basically a marriage and childbirth (a kind of ego death but not really). How does this relate to Dirk? Well I also noted the similarities between his and Vivec's (who is an important figure in TES) characters . Vivec's main issue in C0DA is his inability to accept being the mother of this new world until the representation of his male ego is killed by the protagonist of the story and Vivec presenting as female marries the protagonist in the end achieving Amaranth. In this sense John is the protagonist who needs to slay Dirk's ego and fuck a baby into him (her) but more like, cosmically. As for the point of traumatizing the child (be it and actual child or the new world) I offer this, parenthood is not a single person's task, after all "Love alone and you shall know only mistakes of salt."

His symptoms pretty strongly align with frontal lobe injury, so we can deduce it's pretty similar except with better impulse control, no rapid mood swings, horniness kept in check just enough not to constantly fondle his bulge in public and In short, more well-adjusted except he was still a teenager using whatever a troll version of 4chan is, so he probably enjoys edgy memes that would set off Kankri.
Befriendus' portrayal is a bit softer than I'd expect him to be, but he's still direct and coarse in a way I can imagine people from here to be around their friends, so imo it does a good enough job.

I was raised christian mainly by my mom. The churches we would go to was always Calvary Chapels which is pretty evangelical. I dont subscribe to alot of the nuance that the calvary chapel believes, i would agrue im personally presbyterian.

Dave only ever dated Terezi in the webcomic and that all got burnt down in a pretty disgusting way for the sake of the Terezi & Vriska subplot and GAME OVER, then it felt like no one else was really compatible with him given the fact that the rest of the girl trolls were either dead/taken, and what's left is Jade and let's be honest and admit that this would be the most boring ship to ever be contrived in Homestuck. It would be pretty stupid to not give Dave another partner due to his popularity + the shipping craze, so Hussie just magically made him gay for the only available option on the meteor and look at how big of a success that was despite it being very very very stupid and cheap in so many ways.

Since Hussie clearly adores Dave, he probably fucking hates how this all ended up on a spiritual level, so much in fact that one of his contributions to HS^2 is very obviously the existence of Ultimate Dave, the amalgamation of every Dave Strider that has ever and will ever exist in Paradox Space including their memories of course, who literally goes on a rant about how he isn't gay and that the Alpha Dave who ended up being gay was an accident of some kind.

Given the fact that Dave & Rose also comfortably exchange the most dialogue together in the webcomic and feel most like themselves when together, I genuinely do see Hussie regretting making them related. He can play it off as a joke but like, where's the joke in confirming that Dave was plooooowing Rose in that doomed timeline? That was like the only scenario possible that wouldn't make DaveRose incest-pilled since they didn't know they were related and he took that opportunity. DaveRose also kinda just died out after the sibling confirmation when compared to ships like DaveJade JohnRose DaveKat blah blah blah, so him still bringing it up repeatedly years later? It's interesting.

on some level i feel the reason hussie brings it up so much is because Incest is like an important...theme? of the plot? Its not like a theme moreso as in incest is like in every facet of everything. The main conflict of the story is because a brother is attracted to his sister, something he confirms outright. The Trolls are puzzled by the concept and think its dumb.

I think Andrew Hussie finds it interesting on some deeper way hes either to scared or cant be arsed to get into. Which is exemplified because Act 6 Dave "i yap about my trauma and basically anything on my mind for 4 pages straight" Strider never, not even once, directly tries to confront rose about their relationship in anyway, other than offhandedly and sort of bitterly writing it all off as "stuff we didnt mean", it takes Rose teasing him to illicit even more of a reaction. Clearly thats supposed to be as deep as Hussie wants us to interogate.

As for DaveJade being boring, it could be good, if Hussie wanted to write like a *real* romance subplot, and not just develop shit off screen as he always does with romance. It could be a super cute and wholesome, and more importantly *simple* romance plot, something hussie cant have, so it was doomed to be offscreened forever. First with davesprite, then with the epilouges.

But yeah dave creamping his sister in a doomed timeline is a based thing to say even tho it only raises more questions. I'll give hussie credit for saying it, then take it away because we never get any resolution to it, but since when does hussie resolve shit.

Now i know we just got done yapping about how kino dersecest is. but this guy is fucking right.

Look, i know some people would rather ignore that fact, or age up, or whatever. And maybe being a fuckin freak werido like me compels me to say this. but hes *right*. Prospitcest, i admit, has shakey foundations, you gotta do a lot of shit to make it work, or at least be willing to extrapolate. But dersecest? Arguably the complete relationship in the story? And the only thing people can think to write is angsty drama where people talk and talk and talk, or porn without a plot where Rose does CBT to Dave. They never act how they *usually* do. The link in the paragraph about Dersecest links to "london rain", which, while a good fic, is a post sburb drama romance where the characters are adults and the most fun thing they do is go out to dinner together.

Like. The guy is just right. this isn't a call out to anyone but myself. I need to be better. I need to provide the prospitcest content people NEED. And i promise you I will.

I know, and the fics are good. London rain is good! But at the same time, it feels like we are missing out on some fun, something that captures some of the charm the characters have in the actual comic, and i feel few fics do that, is that more because of bad writing? maybe. I know theres some that come close and i love them deeply.

And with Prospitcest, im actually gonna walk back what i said, i think that ship has plenty of legs, all the legs! More than enough to be compelling! And i think that its a god damn shame that even fans of the ship overlook it. No one but a handful of fanfictions that are usually less than 3000 words long, and pancakestein ever had the care to interrogate the relationship they *had*, and think about the drama and the relationship that can evolve from all of that,.

Theres a happy medium is what im saying! We can have fun *and* drama, so the characters feel fully like themselves, even if your not writing them the way hussie would.

Dave being gay was always an asspull, dude had more canon relationships with women than anyone else. Fujos might point out that he said he loved John to Rose back in act 2 but anyone who ever was or has ever known 13 year old boys knows they make gay chicken jokes all the time. John did the same thing with Dave saying he was attracted to him. And if he's gay then why was he so thirsty for Roxy? And if he's gay then why did he flirt so damn hard with Terezi? Or Rose for that matter? Absolutely nothing about his interactions with the ladies ever came across like a dude unsure of his orientation. A conflicted boy in the closet would have a totally different relationship with girls. Karkat actually comes across much more as a closet case even though that doesn't apply to trolls.

I have a theory that the reason Rose and Dave are "like that" is because they represent the two characters most in-line with Hussie's own mental self-conception of himself. Dave is the irony-loving white guy who loves rap and Rose is the purple-prose spewing literati with a penchant for over-analyzing and generally making things weird. Dave and Rose talking is the closest we get to Hussie having a conversation with himself. He felt like any sort of union between them would be the equivalent of watching two versions of himself kiss, thus he made them "siblings".

But therein lies it's power, and he knows that he can't snuff out that flame. And while Dersecest is essentially the shipping equivalent of a once powerful religion now reduced to a diasporic remnant wandering the hills, its legacy still lives on through a small but incredibly devoted band of adherents.

And it still gets occasional content! This piece by grim-kitkat just got posted 5 days ago.

See Dave being bi works, and honestly I don't care about what people want to ship, it's just rather galling when you take two character with such rich personalities and hilarious interactions and say "now kiss!" and reduce them to the most boring, milquetoast nothingburger of a ship imaginable, and that's what Davekat is in essence. It's the very elimination of nuance. Ships are about exploring the dynamics between characters and making them reveal parts of themselves that aren't otherwise apparent in their interactions with others, and that just isn't there at all. Plus it's another classic case of yaoi fangirls misreading male psychology: everybody loves the penis ouija argument, it's a 10/10 scene, but that is absolutely not at all a case of flirting on either end, in fact part of the humor comes from Karkat getting angry and flustered at Dave's inadvertantly caliginous behavior, but that's because he knows it's from a cultural misunderstanding, not sincere desire, that's why Karkat is so annoyed by it. Thing is, Karkat and Dave could have had a real funny bromance if we could see them develop a mutual respect based on antagonistic riffing off each other-that's exactly what we see John and Karkat develop, but that's just not what happens. What we instead get is the jetstream of liquid horseshit that was the retcon deciding that they're totally in love (even though Karkat wont even admit it when they reunite with their friends) and somehow this being the springboard to Dave's Deep Thoughts on such issues as toxic masculinity and childhood trauma. Honestly I could keep going for 10 more paragraphs but suffice it to say I think that while Dave could conceivably be romantically inclined with a guy, or at least have a purely sexual fling, there's no denying that he is very much attracted to women, especially when they share his genes.

See that's the key to it: Dave doesn't have an "off-switch" for Karkat. If he doesn't have someone who can turn down the volume and make him chill out for just a sec he just stays in automatic and eventually loses batteries. That's what you see with his interactions with Terezi and Vriska. But his chats with people like Kanaya, John, and Jade to some degree show that when someone is able to get through the yelling and make him cool it for a while then they're actually capable of having some sort of interplay that goes beyond Karkat putting them (and himsefl) on blast. Dave's instinct is to just keep poking him and poking him until he explodes, and that's funny, but it's clearly not sustainable as a relationship and it's the opposite of affection. Dave obviously sees Karkat as a "mark" for shenanigans, the same way that Terezi does.

Speaking of which, we never got any sort of satisfactory conclusion to THAT love triangle either, and now I'm mad for reasons that have nothing at all to do with the original topic of conversation.

okay I finished reading Problem Sleuth Volume 1, which covers Chapters 1-5, or 385 pages. Subtracting an ADHD-induced distraction, that took me about an hour. It shocks me how these people just don't...say words? Like almost ever? I guess Hussie didn't bother with that until Homestuck.

Jailbreak caught me more off guard with its comedy, but I think this is easily his best work so far considering there's actually like, suggestions of a plot here. see i like davejade (its like a solid high b tier low a tier ship for me) but like i feel like they really wouldn't have this dynamic at all. And i feel what puts me and a lot of people off of it is when they try to force it. Cause like, this whole super nurturing thing jade has going on is as much a front that needs to be taken off as Dave's macho persona is.
