Is there actually a market for family friendly indie animation? After the TADC YouTube kids debacle that got fixed, I have been curious. Do kids even watch indie cartoons beyond Skibidi Toilet and AIslop?
I'm talking a 2D nicktoon/CN-like show.

I have no idea I don't spend time with kids.
>>
>>153256290
I think the current young generation doesn't want anything "child appropriate." Everything they watch is for teenagers and 20 year olds. They don't watch kid's cartoons. If you tried to make a family friendly indie cartoon, not only would kids reject it you also wouldn't be able to make any money off it.
>>
>>153256290
I genuinely believe the typical 6-12 cartoon is dead.
Anons like to say that action shows will bring them back but the truth is that kids are into far different shit. Anime in general is a lot cooler than western action shows ever were or will be so they have no reason to go back to Western ones. They're also into brainrot as you said. The demo is lost and will never return. I fully expect 2D tv animation to completely die out in america outside of indie shit.
>>
>>153256290
There is
However if you tried to do it people will call you a groomer and pedophile because you are intentionally seeking out kids
>>
>>153256370
How do I reach them without making my cartoon TV-MA as that is simply not my interest?

i blame the current generation of parents who shove a nightmare brick with unlimited internet acces to the hands of their children to shut em up when they cry or scream too much
thanks to them the online environment is constantly degreading and devolving with year that passes after the pandemic lockdowns
>>
>>153256290
Kids cartoons sanitized themselves so much that no kid would actually be interested anymore
The amount of edginess was near perfect in the 90s, alright in the 2000s, got slightly better in 2010 (on CN) and then plummeted into toddlerslop by 2013
>>
>>153256405
You can make something dark and serious without a TV-MA rating.

here is your answer
while not indie, kids shows on youtube get as little as a few thousand views at most, and this is even with the real world advertising build-a-bear is doing.
Max & Maple's first four episodes have a hundred thousand views, but I'm unsure if those are legitimate due to the algorithm pushing them later, or if they bought viwes. When the channel started Max & Maple episodes struggled to even make it past the thousand mark.
All that's to say is, neither of these corporate shows made for kids for youtube only are doing well, so why would an indie kid series do well.

Real Answer: Endlessly scrolling through shorts
I have younger cousins that I checked their watch historial and found so much Phonk ass and shorts of almost everything, even russian shit was on their timeline, but they also like to see cute things like Bluey

They tried to show off their music and this is what i got: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGyCwFaiUgI

It's different now, kids don't want any traditional media, regardless of rating
It's all brainless ai generated content on their phone

Cope all you want, but this genuinely is the case. Anime took over western animation's spot with only indies staying relevant. The only western cartoons I've seen represented out in the west that aren't literal preschool shows, are Murder Drones and TADC

This but this has been a thing for awhile.

It is why kids use to sneak to watch Simpsons and South Park (and the ones who didn’t sneak because their parents didn’t care).

It is why kids liked Mortal Kombat in the past.

It is why kids like the dark lore of FNAF and Poppy Playtime.

Kids are attracted to adult things that they feel they aren’t allowed to watch/play.
>>
>>153256697
Anon, every little girl in neighborhood was dressing up as them for Halloween. The music for the movie is also everywhere.
>>
>>153258336
Kids aren't watching any of that now, they don't care about tv period anymore
Also FNAF is for kids and everyone knows it. Any "adult" who actual plays or watches that has mental problems

They’re saying shit for the hell of it
No one bothers to know their audience they just want to know which slop trough they can use for a payout

>>
>>153258367
I swear that most adult cartoons these days are really just meant for 12 year olds. Not even by coincidence but purely by design. Obviously I can see an adult watching Simpsons, KoTH, Family Guy, South Park, etc but I have NEVER met any adult who watches TADC, Hazbin, or Helluva. I honestly do in fact consider TADC a children's cartoon, I dont care how le dark it is

Probably a cartoon not aimed at kids for better monetization, but that the whole family might enjoy since kids are viewing via family accounts often anyway, has a chance of success with that demo

Last SpongeBob movie barely outgrossed the 2004 one and that's not accounting for 20 years of inflation.
I work at a school and never hear kids talk about SB like they did in the past

Other than sometimes mentioning sex how is tadc an mature show? It's adult the same way a sitcom is. Something like Violence Jack is what I'd consider "mature"

Kids think that children's entertainment teaches useless advice and impractical life skills that no one follows in life. Epstein/Diddy memes are popular in their circles because they're making fun of how that "family friendly" morality is full of crap.

>I think the current young generation doesn't want anything "child appropriate."
It's not a current generation thing. In 1997, the most popular cartoon in my 4th grade class was South Park. Before that, it was Beavis and Butthead.
>>
>>153267792
Shockingly south park was never talked about when I was in elementary school in the 2000s. We were still on Simpsons, which my parents openly allowed me to watch
>>
>>153267383
Well in my experience, the only 3 cartoons I know that my 17 year old niece watches are Spongebob, Bluey, and Miraculous Ladybug. She's gotten more into live-action lately though, Abbot Elementary seems to be her main thing at the moment.
>>
>>153256525
Every cartoon aimed to 9 and younger have color coded characters, It's casually sexist (female character is always pink), and the cartoon is CGI with talking animals or awful design of human characters.
In some cartoons, Government consistently portrayed as efficient and effective, when in the real world you have Trump and Putin.
TADC is popular because is a literaly parody of family friendly animation
>>
>>153267383
I think its just a product of the bygone era of kids in the 2010s being addicted to youtube slop because their parents didn't know any better. Everyone just assumes the same is still happening today with AIslop.
Kids today(im talking younger than 10) have parents who are young enough to be well aware of the ease of access to complete brainrot that kids can find on the internet so they're more proactive in preventing their kids from seeing that crap in the 1st place.
>>
>all the characters want to leave the circus
>half the fans would want to join the circus and live with them
Really makes you think
>>
>>153256555
I think you need to build your audience up from other types of videos before making the kid friendly stuff. The Guava Juice Show has a couple million views since the guy did Let's Plays first.
>>
I don't know about INDIE animation, but many of the most toddler entertainers just started from youtube channels. Ms Rachel, Blibbi, Danny Go - they were all small time years back.

Animation is a different story, because (as you already know) it's much more time consuming and difficult to do. And there are already a ton of popular animated shows before kids turn 10. Go down the toy aisle and you'll see: Bluey and Paw Patrol are the big two. Disney Jr has a ton of Marvel CG shows (Spidey and his amazing friends, etc.) that are quite popular as well.

This goes without saying, but the worst thing you can do is stick them in front of a device. Yeah, it sucks having to keep your kid behaved at a restaurant, or when you're cleaning at home, but turning them into a head-phone wearing zombie is infinitely worse.

My kid is 4 and I let them watch TV here and there, but typically no more than an hour a day. Maybe 2 is its the weekend. But there's already so many kids the same age I see that are cooked. Scrolling through the shorts, always playing with their own personal device.

It's sad.

I guess MAYBE an indie product for younger kids could break through, but the real problem is that means you have to let your kids watch it on some platform like Youtube. I don't want my kids watching anything on a platform where they are one click adjacent from brainrot and TADC.

I think cartoons used to be a bit more mature in the late 2000s and early 2010s
