Any other ratings autists here?
I'm fucking obsessed with rating systems. I keep track of them on every show or movie I'm into. I can't be the only one, there's actually an entire site that lists episode by episode ratings for adult swim and toonami shows
TV ratings might be my favorite ones for some reason although movie ratings are also fun to read

My favorite examples are shows that frequently flip flop on ratings depending on the episode.
Smiling Friends had TV-14 and MA episodes
Aqua Teen would go from PG to 14 to MA
Seasons 1-20 of South Park were all rerated to TV-14 with no further edits back in 2017

Why?
>>
>>153266805
I have no clue
I feel crazy

Jack Valenti and his cheeks would approve of you.

Top 3 fun facts about ratings?
>>
>>153266873
The origins of the PG-13 rating due to films like Indiana Jones
The fact that PG was originally GP for a good while
Apparently TV-MA was originally TV-M but I can't find much photo evidence of it

Nahh you're not alone. I pay especially close attention to shows like King of the Hill that could teeter between TV-PG and TV-14 depending on the contents of the episode. I've also noticed Gumball's revival marks that franchise's first time it's been labeled TV-PG after years and years of TV-Y7 FV despite always being about as edgy as AT, RS, or SU (sometimes MORE).

And the craziest thing to me is how recent TV ratings actually are. Being implemented in 1997.
>>
>>153266785
Most autists are obsessed with things like stinky feet or seeing cartoon characters shoot water out of their noses. I'd say you lucked out.

Just at the right time for my parents, I guess

I love how newgrounds lets you rate your videos from E to Adults only
Wish YouTube did that
>>
>>153266785
For me it's
Movie/TV/Game ratings
Studio logos
Physical media
>>
>>153266909
That is pretty wild. Did introducing a rating system affect tv production soon after that?
It looks like GP stood for the same thing, weird. I feel like I’ve seen an M rating but it’s probably the Berenstain effect from M rated video games.

Honestly, I'm weirdly fascinated by how films get rated in some countries. Can you believe that some PG-13 films like Venom and The Batman have a 15 rating in the UK? (The UK's 15 rating is their equivalent of the US R rating, btw.)
>>
>>153266961
>movie ratings
I've noticed more Pixar movies being rated PG for "mild language." I think Incredibles 2 was the first of its kind to be hit with that, followed by Turning Red and now Hoppers (picrel)

Not particularly autistic about it, but as a fun fact, Brazil only has the Classificação Indicativa as the main rating system for most mediums here.
>>
>>153266803
>Smiling Friends ended with a TV-MA LSV episode
Based imo

New Zealand and Australia rate a lot of the PG things M. They really, really don't like violence. Also had a history of banning videogames.
>>
>>153266964
NTA but there were already standards departments well before ratings came about so it probably didn't change too much
>>
Canada's rating systems are surprisingly lax
Lot of R rated movies get rated 14 there

Why are bongs and bong's youngest colonies like this?
>>
>>153266803
Same
I actually dislike Netflix's way of blanket rating their shows but if I had to guess it's because of the sheer amount of content they have. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off got a TV-MA rating which kinda surprised O'Malley.
Even funnier considering the new game is E10+

Any theories as to why ratings and logos attract autists?
>>
>>153266785
What the fuck does the Y in TV-Y/Y7 stand for?
>>
>>153267005
What's interesting about this is that some Australian ratings are funnily enough LESS restrictive in comparison to the US and/or the UK. Alien and The Matrix are among just a few examples.
>>
>>153267093
In the TV-Y7 rating, "Y" stands for Young (specifically "Young Children"). TV-Y7 indicates content designed for children age 7 and older, featuring more complex fantasy or comedic violence than the TV-Y ("All Children") rating.
>>
>>153267108
I still believe The R rating on the Matrix films was done for ideological reasons
>>
>>153267044
They're subtypes of classification autism.
>>
>>153267044
Can't speak for logos but ratings serve as a way to group things and autists love to organize/group different shit
>>
>>153266785
It's interesting seeing TV ratings get more and more lenient these days. I remember "shit" beginning to be said uncensored on TV-14 shows around 2013 or so.
FX lets MA shows say fuck and cunt uncensored now too

Why was it forbidden to say "hell" and "damn" in cartoons, and when it happened it was seen like a big deal?
>>
>>153267187
Parent groups who demand that TV serve as a babysitter/third parent.
This imo, killed western tv animation
We should have been seeing light swearing in kids cartoons years ago
>>
>>153267215
I remember The Clone Wars on cartoon network in 2009 used hell and damn. But it was TV-PG V and aired at 9 PM.

>Seasons 1-20 of South Park were all rerated to TV-14 with no further edits back in 2017
I didn't know this, so I looked into it. Apparently a handful of episodes were kept TV-MA some of which are:
Conjoined Fetus Lady
Proper Condom Use
Stupid Spoiled Whore
Bloody Mary
Trapped in the Closet
Apologies to Jesse Jackson
Dances With Smurfs
Imaginationland trilogy
No idea why some of these were kept TV-MA

>>153267215
It's unbelievable how hard parents destroyed the potential of comics and cartoons in the anglosphere. At least videogames came in later enough to escape that fate.
>>
Pharrell's animated Lego documentary may be the edgiest PG film I've seen in a while.
They said shit like 3 times
>>
>>153267044
Logos attach a timespace story to indexable categories through repetition and transformation of meaning-making symbols. They’re cartoons.
>>
>>153266785
I've always liked them visually
Anyone here have transparent/higher quality versions of these Canadian ones?

Cool, I like this stuff too.
Fucking hate how streaming services just do blanket ratings now. Was in this server for that stuff but left because they seemed more interested in collecting live screencaps of each rating as if they're trading cards, then actually analyzing what got rated what and why. Also just really bad tweenage autism of sending death threats to people for canceling their show, pic related

Not shocking, Matt and Trey talk about how tame those first few seasons were in hindsight.

As a kid it was surreal seeing Regular Show and Adventure Time with TV-PG ratings, like these aren't your average kids cartoons anymore.
