To me it felt lethargic, like much wasn't going on in the writer's room. Like the jokes and characters needed another draft and it would've been good.

Whoever was in charge didn't give a fuck. There was a decent framework to the show, lots of possibilities and they just went all over the place with no control. Plot lines that weren't followed up on, like the family curse, important things that were dropped or undeveloped, the magic of Dreamland, and a dozen other things that were ignored, contradicted, or dropped without explanation.

The humor was more misses than hits and relied on dumb, drunk people doing stupid things. The Simpson & Futurama have stupid, drunk people but the humor goes beyond just that. I think they were coasting on reputation half the time.
