How do I unscrew this? It's an S100x8 valve, but it only has two small ridges (replacement valves usually have four large ridges), so it's hard to grip. Any tips on how to get it off without breaking it?

why are you concerned with breaking it if you're going to replace it? drill a hole through it, insert a screwdriver and twist.

It's cracked, but still working, so I don't *need* to replace it, but I want to, because I'm already buying other parts for the IBC. If I can't get it off in one piece, I'll connect a spigot to it and leave it permanently open.

Strap wrench would be your best bet at getting it off without breaking it further. The other "large diameter PVC pipe" pliers look suspiciously like oil filter pliers...

it's plastic, if you break it you crack it in a couple of places where it threads in and pull the pieces from the thread, this is a non issue
