MOC SEASON EDITION
What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them
How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush
>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

gotta love how almost none of the boots patinaproject and thunderdome post to their social media have won anything, but they still use them for marketing and promotion
why don't they use the grimy and fake boots that actually got the prizes instead?
>>
>>18682792
Those aged beautifully. And yes, I know saying "aged" for a pair of boots that have been worn for six months is an exaggeration.
>>18683195
Man, sanding not only looks super obvious, it's also cringe as fuck. Nothing in the patina thinderdome makes sense.
>>
>>
>>18683195
the most hilarious thing to me about the thunderdome and all that is that natural wear looks better. if you just wear your boots and do stuff in them, they will look great after a while. no need to sand them, or scrape your feet against curbs or "walk through bushes at night" kicking your feet together or whatever retardation these bugmen do. just wear them
knowing that the thunderdome is a collaboration of brands designed to increase sales ruins the entire thing. you MUST buy a brand new pair of boots for it, you MUST destroy your new pair of boots, and after you MUST get a new replacement pair since you ruined yours. they're laughing all the way to the bank while retards ruin their expensive boots to show off to other retards

I've had a pair of Clark's Desert Boots for years. They were like $140. I love them so I went to get another pair and saw the Bushacre 2.0's for like under 1/2rd of the price. I got a pair and compared them, outside of the sole I cannot see what is different about them. Is there a difference I am not noticing? What is up with this?
>>
>>
>>18683621
Bushacre 2 is called the Desert Boot Evo. Not sure if it's dependant on the market or if they're phased out the name or what.
Anyway, I own both and the Evo (what my model is called) has a better last. Slightly more refined looking. The sole is hard rubber and not crepe, that's the biggest difference. Last and sole. Sizing IS the same which I found out the hard way listening to the advice of retards on the internet saying to size down on the Original.
>>
>>
>>
>>18683631
>The sole is hard rubber and not crepe
This is really the only difference I could see. I prefer the rubber sole because the crepe one picks up all sorts of shit nonstop and it doesn't have good grip on wet, smooth surfaces. The price difference is such that I thought there would be a bigger difference.
As for the name I'm from the US, this is what they were listed as at Macy's, but looking at the Clark's website it is the Evo, weird that they have two names.
Thanks.

the longer i've been into boots and nice footwear, the more i hate the look of cap toes. only think i like them on now is oxfords
but on derbies or boots, they look dumb. reminds me of a circumcised penis
plain toe all the way

Anyone tried those silicone heel protectors off Amazon? How well do they work for you? Fuck I should've waited and spent 3-4x more to get some Rolling Dub Trio or John Lofgren boots instead of these Blundstone 585s I got. I was in a store to get a jacket but decided to try on some boots while I was at it and they didn't chafe my right heel.
Well, nothing I can do about it now since the RDT Stan in size 9 just got sold out and I need to wait until August for the Lofgren Chelseas to be restocked.

I have some of their Bostons and enjoy them as a casual shoe I like to wear around the house or whatever, and I know lots of people that swear by their Arizona sandles
But those ones you posted are basically 200 slippers. I can't imagine they are worth that price

I went to the Carmina store in Madrid with my girlfriend, neither of the two people working the floor said a word to us even though the whole shop was empty. We looked at a few pairs of boots and shoes and left without trying anything on.
This is probably just the Spanish way, but you´d think a salesman would try to sell you something.
>>
>>18684211
>you´d think a salesman would try to sell you something.
"Salesman" is a title, not an outlook. I work a retail shift every so often and work to inform customers, not sell them things.
It might be cultural, but it seems like you didn't want to buy anything, or else you would have engaged. They could have made the effort, but you could have, too.
Why would you want someone to sell you something you don't want?

Got rid of nigsneakers after I turned 26 and starting to fill up real boots and shoes. 6 spots (already got beaters and my tradie work boots outside)
What can I fill the other 4 spots with.
I’m autistic with organization so 4 spots for one shoe for each season (Jim green for fall) (red wing spring) so that leaves summer and winter(snows here) and an Oxford and who knows what for the sixth spot
. Need help

Plain toe derbies as a casual alternative to sneakers but not a boot.
Oxfords if you have a reason to own them, skip if you don't. I find myself wearing them to weddings quite frequently
Ranger Mocs/boat shoes. I really like my Rancourts
Desert boots for an unlined summer option when lace up ankle boots are too hot
Cowboy boots because they're based as fuck and look cool
Loafers as a great option when you want something that doesn't have laces and can bridge the gap between formal and casual

>So RM Williams no longer does leather insoles?
They do, but only on 2 basic ass models in their standard line and in all of the "signature line" which are incredibly poor value.
It's retarded. The "poron comfort sole" is SHIT. If you really must by rmw get the basic leather in/outsole craftsman model and stick a topy on it or something. Everyone wants fucking cushions on their feet, but instead of wearing sneakers they're conned into the "comfort craftsman", which unfortunately is the defaul craftsman now.
If they ever bring back the blaxland model (synthetic outer, leather inner) then that would be the one to go for if you want longevity.
Until such a day you've got a choice of the most boring fucking brown or black craftsman as everything else has that dogshit synthetic inner construction.

Bootfags:
I've been using an old bottle of lexol conditioner from years back. I saw briefly that apparently lexol is shit now (?), and that I'm better off switching to something else when this bottle finally runs out.
I liked lexol as it didn't darken the leather at all, and apparently all it did was condition and nothing more, no polish, no clean, nothing, which is all I wanted.
What's the thing to use now? Or do I just go back to VSC or saphir renovateur? I think my vsc has congealed in the bottle. I wonder if it's still safe.
To be used on: calf, goat, kudu.
Also, is VSC still the go to thing for shell?
Thank you.
>>
>>18684291
Really unfortunate to see a prestigious brand like that go the way of the toilet the same as so many other formerly great brands
Especial since RM Williams is one of the definitive made in Australia products. Does Australia even manufacture anything else?
>>
>>
>Chippewa
>Frye
What happened to these brands? James Dean supposedly wore Chippewa in Rebel Without a Cause and Marlon Brand supposedly wore Frye in The Wild One (though I've heard sources say it was Wesco)
Red Wing and the PNW makers are pretty much all that's left

When I was last in oz a few years ago I wandered into a store of theirs and the wagie, a younger guy, was delighted at the change in ownership and was positive on the outlook. Maybe the new guy, some mining magnate, blew smoke up all the bright eyed and bushy tailed arses or something at the start. It's been nearly 3 years and I haven't seen any substantial changes in quality. If anything the choices have become more limited than even under lvmh.
Give it a few years; maybe it'll improve. I would say that if they ever get to the point where they offer the customisation service again then that would be the point that I buy them again.
>Does Australia even manufacture anything else?
Very little. It's why the place ultmately has no future. If you're talking footwear, then if you want totally made in australia:
>redback
>mongrel
which have a sorta adidas/puma style familial feud backstory apparently. Not welted, but they're ok for fucking around and great for international travel ime. The Mongrel K9 line are less workbooty and try to look more dressy. Other brands like Harold, who I thought had died years ago, are partially made in australia or mostly made in vietnam or china and finished or something in aus.
RMW is the only "quality" footwear brand mass producing their product totally withing australia.'I saw something about a tiny tasmanian bookmaker but I can't confirm that shit.

anyone have any experience with snakeskin boots? who makes some good quality boots?
>>

Cousin has a pair of snakeskin cowboy boots from some old and defunct manufacturer. He uses them as his "dress boots" (lives in New Mexico) and complains regularly about how they need to be babied more than other boots and that they require special conditioners and cleaners. I'm sure the standard battery of cowboy boot makers have some snake skin offerings, you might also see them on some side zip boots, but I haven't really seen them used outside of that. No matter what style you pick should do heavy research to make sure you aren't getting scammed with fake snakeskin.
>>18684334
Just sell them, they won't stretch a full size. There's no point in messing up your feet for shoes that won't fit.

They're tight on the widest part of the foot, on the verge of being uncomfortable. If I wear them for an entire day my feet start hurting by the end of it. I think if I can get a bit of stretch out of them I can make them work.

My ankle circumference is about 27cm, assuming I measured at the right spot. But I don't think that they're too tight, rather that this inner part is rubbing against the skin when you move.
