Why don't you have any dates in your CV?
>>
>>108618331
To be honest, I was told not to include dates on my resume by a career counsilor since its not really a requirement.

Also, I already input all that information into the web application that they make you do, so it seems kind of redundant.

that is the dumbest shit I've heard in a longtime. Only leave stuff off that is embarassing, that you wish to hide, and home doesn't come up. like a low GPA. or if you graduated college in like 1980 and are old as dirt.

so you are essentially saying go first line support wagie and level up to something better?
I got a brief education in basic support help desk shit but I never did an internship during that shit and I never even applied for jobs after finishing it because I had not finished my basic education in other things that I wanted to go finish before I could actually apply for higher education
now I am almost done with basic shit
but I don't even know if I could get hired with that before, I lacked a hs education lmao and was basically not even hired at a dead end wagie help desk
>>
>>108618526
imma be honest most msp couldnt give a flying fuck about education to an extent. they care about bums in seats and a bum that can fix things. if you go into an interview and can talk the gab and show you know your shit youll have a good chance. Being on here suggest you at least have a passing knowledge of tech. i was hiring apprentices not long ago and anyone with an education above high school i threw out. Don't get me wrong though msp work is stressful and shit. but if you show you're good and willing to learn most msp will buy you microsoft certs. since it helps them get solution partner designation matter of fact if you have az-900 youll already be ahead of everyone
>>
>>108618526
>>108618626
i went on a tangent but yes helpdesk to sec people is a real pipeline if you can work your way around the msp world. Aim for a small msp.

My path went from 1st > 2nd > Sys Engineer > Lead sec > IT ops manager in about 5 years

how precise do you make the dates of employment in your CV? I thought I'd just put the years, e.g. 2020-2025 (partly because it works in my favor if I the employment started November 2020 and ended April 2025 or whatever)

>>
>>108619107
>Whats wrong with Asset Management?
if you have technical IT skills why would you throw it all away and become an inventory monkey?
cybersec became a meme because they shilled it to normalgroids who have no technical ability or even passion for the field so now every idiot has a cybersecurity degree with no knowledge behind it.

>>
>>108619065

>>
>>108619212
Cybersec became a meme because of Managerialism and bueracratic creep like literally every other tech job.

Also, there is this air of "mysticism" surrounding Cybersec to the point where it almost seems cultish, where people act like leaving a USB plugged into an unsupervised computer is the end of the world that requires the submission of pages worth of fucking paperwork to resolve.
>>

Not good enough, I want to see dates and time as well in iso standard precision. I want the timezone as well. And don't call yourself by your name, supply a guid so I can uniquely identify you. I get 100 anons across my desk every week.

we're not even contracted by the element i worked for and my only experience with this type of system was with their direct competitor, who even in the happy family of defence contractors, is the one that isn't involved in this particular craft, and even among the people and concerns of naval experience, I was on the wrong class of ship for my entire meaningful career

I recently signed an offer letter for a mid-size education consulting firm. However, with the current job market and the layoffs, I've been stressing over whether my offer will be rescinded or not. I've looked into this online, and the gist that I got was that while the employers could technically rescind the offer after it has been signed, there would be serious legal implications. I wanted to know if my thoughts on this is correct, and if there have been cases of employers rescinding offers after they have been signed (and if so, why).

Do not under any circumstances ever take advice from a career counselor.
They do not understand what it takes to get jobs and aren't spamming their shitty resume to the lowest IQ retard recruiters out there.
Add the fucking dates FFS.
Fucking career counselors should be forced to write resumes and apply to jobs to see if their shit advice actually gets them interviews.

400 applications in two years is less than one application a day. The last time I was unemployed I was applying to five to ten companies a day all with targeted cover letters. I kept track of every application and followed up. I made it an eight hour a day job to find a job.

honestly this job wouldn't be that bad if the pay wasn't dogshit and I didn't have a two hour commute and I had more freedom
I'm doing basically nothing all day except printing a few stacks of paper every 2-3 hours
My coworker has been here for 20 years and I saw her spend 30 minutes writing an email yesterday

Sounds like one of my old managers. Just became progressively clearer he was not operating on the same plane of reality as everyone else. I ended up reporting him to my director, who nearly shit himself when he saw the evidence/dms and who promptly reported my manager to HR, and he was let go 3 weeks later.

nope!!! ill get a warning
I've been trying to work on personal projects for the last few days on my laptop since its not youtube, but my manager has been trying intentionally to keep me busy by giving me boring menial tasks. I havent had more than 30 consecuive minutes to myself yet.

I got a non-CS job and continued to look for work. Spent about a year and half seriously searching, applying to hundreds, maybe thousands of jobs nationwide, getting some interviews and take home stuff. Finally got a shitty job from a local place I had only heard bad things about, which turned out to be even worse than I imagined and I had to quit after 4 months. Then spent another year or two casually searching, applying to only things that looked like really good matches to my resume or were really close by. Time eventually made the decision for me. I just picked up a few things again, but didn't really code anything or even open a terminal for like 2 years. I know a guy that hasn't been in the industry in like 5 years, and he is still staying current with the the trends and uploading projects to his github. I don't have the same perseverance.

I did about a year ago. And yes it was specifical Data Annotation Corporation too. They never get back to you. I think it is a scam where the interview questions and the code that you provide during the "application" test is actually you training the AI model for free. It's a scam. Move on.
>>
>>108622823
to effectively negotiate the corpo must know that you have more incentive to walk away than they do. that is typically the case: when you are currently employed at a good paying job OR the corpo knows that they will not be able to find another candidate if you walk.

What do?
I feel like I'm dragging my team down, I was never an overachiever but used to be better than others, but ever since I started my current job I feel like I dont perform as well as I should.

On the other hand we (our team) are under pressure 24/7 and I never get the chance to learn new technologies before having to use them, so its always AI and bruteforce for anything I build.

>>
>>108624322
if you are taking 2-3 times longer to understand something or build scripts / workflows to work as they should then you are doing a good job.

The alternative is to take 1/2 to 1/3 times as long to pretend to understand something or build scripts / workflows that look like they work as they should but actually are actually malfunctioning garbage that will fuck everything up at the worst possible moment.

The pressure never stops. Don't bruteforce anything. While you may be criticized for taking too long, you will be damned and eviscerated for building something that fucks everything up at the worst possible moment.

Keep doing the best that you can do at a sustainable pace, you're not dragging your team down as long as you are putting in an honest & honorable amount of effort to not let them down.

even shit wagies jobs have a lunch break. make up some excuse like "My doctor said that I need to eat lunch at the same time everyday" so that you can take your lunch at the same time everyday. At lunch time physically leave so your employeer can't see you what you are doing during your lunch break. Schedule your interviews for that timeslot.

working on projects, grinding leetcode won't help for shit anyways.

your dad is incapable of understanding that "working your way up the ladder" isn't real because he's from a time when an hourly wage for breaking down boxes, or drilling the same three screws in an assembly line, was enough pay to buy a house with a pool, have two cars, and a family. he will NEVER understand.
>>
>>108624322
>we (our team) are under pressure 24/7 and I never get the chance to learn new technologies before having to use them
devops in a nutshell kek
you're literally me 5 years ago. unfortunately I don't have any especially helpful advice other than keep rolling with it, always try to pick up and remember useful things as you go, and eventually you'll have enough working knowledge to hack it on most things and not feel as lost. in this field it's more important to be conversant and able to fill in gaps on the fly than it is to be an expert in everything. don't let fear of coming off as clueless stop you from asking questions, stealing more of a senior's time to get a better understanding up front will almost always be very helpful to everyone involved
>>
i want to normiemaxx. like genuinely normiemaxx. practicing good posture, social gestures, public speaking, while at the same time kowtowing to my seniors and betters at work.

then after workhours i would go home and thrash my place throwing things around smashing plates and the TV and generally just turn the place upside down.

is this a good mentality to have just to be le professional? just to build le career?

how do you generally divide time between

2) practice leetcode
3) practice behavior/psychology tests
4) applying for jobs

>>
>>108624569
the point of leetcode tests is:
filter out all candidates who don't thrive on sweatshop culture of blasting out barely adequate code-monkey level of software at blazing speed
OR
to fail all candidates so they can claim they need another H1B hire because they can't find a single qualified candidate

In otherwords: Any compay that wants you to take a leetcode test isn't serious about hiring you anyways, it's not going to happen, when you hear that shit just say "no thank you, I've been told by my mentor that only sweatshops screen applicants with leetcode tests, oh well, let me know if you have any opportunities in the future that do not require a leetcode test."
