Winlator allegedly had a (Windows) trojan in an older version. I don't know if it was ever conclusively proven that there actually was a virus or if it was just a false positive (although virus scans showed up clean after a hotfix was released so there probably was one), and the virus in question apparently couldn't even do anything malicious since the server it pings is no longer online.

Most likely, the binary ended up infected on the dev's machine somehow and it made it into Winlator. It doesn't seem like it was done on purpose.
