LCD is good for displaying high resolutions, blacks are still problematic. I had a vizio (Vizio is to sony what Toyota is to Lexus) TV that had spot LCD dimming, worked great in low light. Increase the number of lightt nodes on the LCD and you could likely achieve 98% AMOLED performance for darks. IMO LCD color display performance is already good when you adjust exposure for washout.
