X was never ideal, but you can see those wayland shills never talking about wayland virtues, but only about how Xorg is bad, and they were the ones to make it this bad. X is still way more flexible and thoughtful than "I don't see the use case" wayland.

While Xlibre burned the bridge the day they decided to make it political, if metux just said "Xorg is no longer a priority for freedesktop et al. and this is a fork to maintain it and improve it" I'm sure many would have stood with him and contributed, but now with his stupidity he mainly attracted nocoder xuds. And with his low skills I'm sure he'll never achieve anything good.

Btw Xorg IS maintained and worked on, mainly bug fixes, but it's not dead, and it will never be. In worst case scenario we have another decade with X, because wayland will never be a real windowing system.
