Mark Twain wrote something called King Leopold's Soliliquy, attacking him and the Belgians generally for being responsible for what he considered one of the two greatest mass human rights abuses of his time (the other being Tsarist Russia). And Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness was based in the Belgian Congo.
