I also find it baffling that somehow Britain was the massive investor in Argentina for pretty much its entire history and they still couldn’t help but chimp out over the Falklands, solely to try and distract from domestic political issues over the mishandling of their economy

I’ll never understand both the “resource curse” and rhe “middle income trap”. Both seem like copes

Less they couldn't figure it out and more they didn't want to, there was more money and influence in it for the elites if they kept things as they were, reform would only invite competitors against themselves
