So many people argue by merely slotting in the most relevant thought taken from an apologist without even changing it to fit the context of the debate better. When you take them far enough off the beaten path, they just break down completely because they can't recall any phrase that fits the context.

The average person is stupid out of laziness and distraction more than genuine incompetence. They are dull, don’t get me wrong, but they’re more capable of understanding than they let on. They’re just lazy, want to pretend to not be ignorant to defend a fragile ego, and really have no proper understanding of the mechanics of a coherent debate.

This is true in my experience as well. The argument and the counter-argument are well-rehearsed, like chess openers. It is only with the counter-counter argument that the discussion truly begins.

What was your preferred subject to discuss, OP?
