Did people at the periphery of rome go hard on the "we izz roman o algo" larp just like people at the periphary of Europe/the EU go hard on the "we izz european" larp?

Or was being conquered by rome while their neighbors fought them off a shameful thing to them?

A big language reform some 250 years ago did most of the heavy lifting. I'd argue that Sardinian is the most archaic Romance language, as the island has always been hard to control by outside powers as the locals could just hide inland in inaccessible terrain..
