Tell me about this country.
Is it basically just an island of buddhist pajeets?
Are they friendly?
Are they smelly?
How is the pollution and air quality?
How is the food? Etc.

>Yes
>Yes
>Depends (Yes on public transport)
Public transport is incredibly cheap, there are cheap Indian buses and slightly more expensive ac buses.
>Streets are relatively clean, air quality is okay.
>It's alright.

A quarter of the country is protected as reserves or national parks. There's a high rate of endemicity and bio diversity. Wetlands, drylands, and highlands with varying temperatures, nature, and animals in a few hours drive. Pretty good beaches.
Sri Lankan kings were autistic about irrigating the drylands by building a massive interconnected tank cascade system with interconnect tanks draining to large reservoirs. There's one natural lake and numerous artificial ones. They started building this in the 4th century BC and built over 30000 in over a thousand years. Around 2.5% of the land mass consists of tanks and reservoirs.

One of my best friends in high school was a Sri Lankan who came from a Hindu family, although he was a hardcore atheist who nearly got disowned by his mum for blaspheming or whatever.
We had a falling-out when his goth girlfriend didn't like me for some bizarre reason and turned him against me.
Also he was bi and used to flirt with me on occasion, but I'm straight so I didn't reciprocate.

Arthur C Clarke lived there starting in like the 1950s.
The country is majority Sinhalese but has a sizable Tamil minority. A terrorist group called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or Tamil Tigers fought a long-running campaign for a separate Tamil state but were defeated and disbanded in the late 2000s. They invented the suicide vest usually associated with Islamist suicide bombers.

True, the Portuguese were particularly harsh and carried out mass conversions, but they controlled the southwest coast and the north. They eventually made some ground towards the central highlands, the capital of the Kandyan kingdom, but were pushed back with the help of the Dutch East India company. The Dutch took over the former Portuguese territories, and largely respected local traditions and Buddhism, although they persecuted the catholics. The British took over after the Napoleonic wars and launched multiple campaigns to take over Kandy. After internal strife, the Kandyan king was deposed in 1815 when local chieftains sided with the British against the tyrannical king and negotiated clauses to protect their way of life and make Buddhism inviolable.
There was a Buddhist revival in the west and south, in the late colonial era, led by Annagarika Dharmapala and Henry Olcott - An American colonel who was part of the Lincoln commission. The core Buddhist monastic orders survived in the Kandyan kingdom and villages in Portuguese controlled areas.

It's somewhere in Vanga, Kalinga, or the area in between. His father founded Sinhapura, which some say is modern day Singur, but it's hard to know for certain.
They all spoke prakrit back then.
