Looking at GDP in US dollars can easily lead us astray.
This is Japan's GDP in Japanese yen. This chart matches more with our feeling of life in Japan.
25 years ago, when Japan's GDP was the second largest in the world, but the country's economic situation was bad, with high suicide and crime rates. Now, the suicide rate is lower than in the United States, and the crime rate is very low, making it a much easier place to live.

The Japanese guy is correct in criticism
China has higher GDP than the US by a massive margin and has been the #1 by GDP for years, and Russia is (sadly) #4, if I remember, European countries much smaller - you are quoting nominal dollars, God knows why?
In the end it doesn't matter how much a rupee converts to USD for, as much as how much food, clothes, bombs can a rupee give you in India, cny in China, rub in Russia, etc. same for Turkey and so on
For clarity, nominal isn't irrelevant, but using it to declare economy sizes is misleading, use GDP PPP instead to be more accurate
