Women empathetically self insert. That means that they deeply relate to a character based on certain superficial characteristics, and then inhabit that character emotionally. That’s why women care more about characters being the same race as them, or being customizable in vidya, or whatever. It’s how they prefer to enjoy stories in many cases. Therefore, good things that happen to female characters are more directly felt by women audiences. They are inhabiting the character directly on an emotional level, so if the character is rich, or pretty, or powerful, that is direct appeal.
Men logically relate to characters. They relate to characters based on the degree, to which they agree with them, the degree to which they are similarly motivated to them, and the degree to which they find them interesting or entertaining. However, they don’t inhabit the character most of the time. Since the connection is logical and not empathetic, they tend to view the story from the protagonists perspective, but things that happen to the protagonist are still generally perceived as happening to a different individual. In action series, the main character is usually powerful and skilled and handsome. James Bond, for instance. In a romance series directed towards otaku, however, the appeal would be substantially harmed if audiences saw the main character as superior to them. By having meek, middlingly attractive, main characters that the audience feels superior to, even though they receive female attention, it gives the impression that the otaku could as well, seeing as he is superior. A male otaku that views a more handsome, more rich man get a girl in an anime feels jealousy, not victory.

I don't think so but working in a all woman collective as a man is extremely psychologically draining, should have just went to trades instead busting my ass at some work site taking like 10-15 smoke breaks with the bros while we all chug a small bottle of liquor while the boss isn't looking.
