Seems a bit early for a thread, no? I know this board is slow but it feels like autosage kicks in pretty fast too. We still got a couple weeks
That said, rooming with the /jp/ anons this year and I actually had a pretty damn fun idea for a game. We can still play Mahjong but the game I had in mind instead was this
>Get a deck of suited cards based on Touhou characters >Shuffle the deck around >Pass around 5 to each, place the rest in the center, flip one card up from the center deck >Whichever character got flipped up from the deck, anyone in the circle can choose to get rid of one of the cards in their hands by relating it to the character that just got shown (they cannot however, relate 2 cards at the same time in a row) >Anyone else in the circle can contest the card that was played that turn by making an even better case for relation (i.e. If the first card from the deck shown is Sanae, and the first card played after is Aya, then someone can contest with a card they might have that could prove to be of stronger relation like Kanako, Suwako, etc.) >Person with the better case ends up getting rid of their card in the center, and as a bonus for winning, can decide to send the card that was played by their opponent to anyone else's hand (cannot be sent to the last person who got this penalty) >Voting on who wins is based on both canon but also vibes from the players >Bonus: If you can't find a good canonical relation to the last card that was played, if you can make up a headcanon that's appealing enough, you can still sway audience votes >If a case is truly dead even then the win goes to whoever's card matches suit, or closer in number, in that order >Goal, of course, is to get rid of all the cards in your hand
Somehow ended up hanging out with the Lyrica Live circle a couple years back and they introduced this game to me. It was fucking fire and I've been dying for a chance to play it again desu
>>51009861 the thread will probably die right when the event is here, so I guess another will be made right then. I haven't met up with you guys before but that sounds like a fun game, too
>>51008016 Finally some rock/metal rep, even if its those YouTube rock cover posers. YONA was a dark horse performer last year but they were fucking shredding it. Can't wait to mosh again this year.
>>51008016 >>51014693 For fucks sake, it's as if it was mandatory for whoever organizes this thing to be as reddit as possible with their annoying naming for the events and general prose in their descriptions. Western fandom is pure AIDS pandering to xittertards
>>51014700 Other than a single event I don't see anything like that in the schedule. Maybe you're just looking for things to get upset about, in which case I think you should take it easy.
>>51014769 Even the gay one seems pretty interesting upon reading the description. >Yuri in Fansokyo covers the wide variety of inter cast shipping that existed in the Touhou Fandom. In this panel, we will discuss fanworks that depict lesbian relationships. Discussion will focus around the who and why these fanworks are produced, and their intended audience. Both the western and eastern sides of the fandom will be discussed. Audience Participation is welcome. Not sure if the panel can actually live up to this. It seems like it'd require some research to properly cover, although there should already exist academic studies on Japanese/western fandom culture that they could try to extrapolate from.
>>51014769 Don't mind the insecure poorfag. He's always gonna find a way to have a victim complex and shit up these threads. Best to ignore and move on
>>51014693 Concert goes without saying. Otherwise I'll personally be in the gaming hall to meet some friends and maybe catch Touhou wrestling to wind down on Sunday
>>51015574 These motherfuckers are gonna have to start looking for a new venue soon, last year was packed as fuck. Trying to get into the artist alley/vender area was a pain. They’re even moving this year’s concert to the theatre room next door, so they know things are getting bigger than what the center can reasonably handle.
>>51015791 That's what I said last year to one of the staff desu and even they know it. Thankfully then it was only the vendor lines on Saturday (as expected) that were hard to get moving. At least I could still go from one place to another. But I'm a little afraid even that much will be a problem soon. To make matters worse, some rooms also have horrible ventilation The event really can't afford to be at the TCAC again.
>>51014700 Well yeah. These kinds of events have to appeal to as many people as possible to turn a profit, and like it or not, Reddit/Twitterfags are the majority so they are the ones that get catered to.
>>51015574 That's an overestimate. Staff said they were just under 2000 last year, and this year the World Cup and the Iran War jacking prices through the roof is probably going to mean a smaller crowd.
>>51015574 It's maybe 2000 at best, if you look at the convention center it can't hold that amount in any shape or form. My guess is somewhere between 1200-1600, 1800 with all staff+day helpers to set up/tear down stuff.
>>51015791 AFAIK the owners like that specific location for some weird reason. Given the western audience I don't see it moving from california ever.
>>51016575 >>51016702 That seems a lot more accurate. Not sure why my brain cooked up those numbers instead but I do remember hearing from staff that they estimate about 500-1000 more this year anyway. Also lowkey hoping the event stays relatively small enough to be niche and comfy like always. Though I still do want a bigger venue.
>>51009035 I doubt much of any drama this year, seems like they locked down a lot of their discord from any no-no think and moved their primary squabbles to bluesky.
The one thing I will note I found a bit funny is that of their guest list(excluding cosplayers which all seem to be Americans). They don't have any returning guests this year which is kind of odd for such a specific genre; It's not like LA and Tokyo are a weird series of stopovers it's basically a direct flight.
>>51017529 > They don't have any returning guests this year You’re right, not even that TAM guy seems to be there this year, and he’s attended multiple times.
>>51017529 Reitaisai Taiwan overlaps with TouhouFest https://reitaisai.com/tw5-zh-tw/ Not sure if this has anything to do with it, I haven't figured out how to view their online catalog so I'm not sure which Japanese circles (if any) are going there.
>>51017721 >>51018012 It's also worth noting the guests they got for this year are overall way more prominent than the last few. I'm sad about no returning Miko and A-ONE but what can you do about that I guess
>>51018067 I've been to TouhouFest since year one. Not that hard to find a decent looking cosplayer, though you might be sent to jail for trying to hook up with them. Most of the attendees I've seen are in their early 20s or younger.
>>51018166 It's so hard to find Touhou fans that are above 20. This board is an exception, but everywhere I go Touhou fans are between 15 and 22. I'm 26 years old and I'm starting to feel out of place because of how young the non-japanese fandom is
>>51018057 Sure? Maybe I am reading the guests wrong or I memory holed something but the guests coming haven't done anything relevant in aaaaaggeeesss. Talking over 2 decades ago at this point for their absolute consistent relevant releases. I mean sure they have some sponsored stuff that gets some serious attention, but I did a refresh of them and most their hits in the past 10 years are just that a paid promotion/sponsor they were able to upload to their personal channel. I mean yeah IOSYS guy is cool but that's a collab group making the things. I am not trying to demean their work at all but let's be real here the guests invited are associated with bigger projects from >1 decade ago.
>>51018067 I honestly don’t think any biological woman that would actually go to these are even worth the time. If they aren’t a part of the alphabet squad, they’re the usual Twitter/Tumblr types.
>>51018789 Yeah. Older Touhou fans are quite rare. I think a lot of the older fans (let's say those that discovered Touhou before 2015) just don't care about Touhou anymore. Touhou also got a lot more popular recently.
