Is modern warfare just flinging stand off ammunition at the enemy while the front line if it even exists doesnt move at all until one side chickens out now?

This is the new hype wave to robotize, and many trials are to be had. There are still a lot of clunkers still around that technically can to do the breach and assault but the cost can no longer sustain the process as the economy that once enabled it is no longer booming and it is politically incorrect to tell the masses into letting go of the fruit of the last generation, and fight it all over again by full mobilization. The result has been written in children's textbook and something new is coming. They would fight in that war.
Before the right replacement is fully fielding in the new army, the current status works and will stay.
This pattern has been there since early mechanization around ww1. It takes time to for technologies of mobility, firepower, protection that can be controlled and sustained to be integrated at nice price point for the demand.
Full UGV had just taken the first step to take grounds. Expensive trump card of the past, cheap tactics today may not have a chance in the future.
