This non-verbal autistic man graduated with a Masters from Columbia and has published a book, Upward Bound, by tapping at a letter board transcribed by his mother. What's getting in your way /lit/?

Lmfao no he didn't. He's just pointing to random letters and his mom is putting words in his mouth, you can see it clearly in the video. If this shit was real he would be able to use a word processor and a speech synthesizer instead of pointing at a piece of paper only his mom can see. She got a Masters and wrote a book.

I don't flaunt my disability like it's the most important thing about me. In the publishing world that means my ideas are worth dogshit.
I would be published tomorrow if I said I was a gay, black, retard, Muslim, with AIDS and cerebral palsy.

There are also millions of retards who never made it.
All things being equal your chances are still better if you aren't disabled, but there are always a few underdogs that will become succesful. It's not because they are better, but because it's a role that has to be filled. You need a few of those cases to create a certain narrative.
