Mayflower by Philbrick seems like an obvious choice.
I second the Foote choice.
Go straight to the source and read Rights of Man, some of the Federalist Papers? Or maybe a selection of Jefferson (pictured)?
I'd add some fiction actually, try Gore Vidal's Burr and Lincoln.

yeah. i've read the first one and it's very good, only i skipped the second half of the first chapter, which bearly mentioned george beyond the date of his birth.

Every American history book focuses on the pilgrims and the development of New England. Is there any title primarily about the settling of the south and the creation of the southern colonies?

Albion's Seed follows four settler populations, the Pilgrims, the Quakers, the Scots-Irish, and the Cavaliers who were like English Catholic nobility in the South.

American maritime history is a pretty underrated topic. Nowadays we're overwhelming seen as a wide country of endless plains, but we started off as a lean coastal nation where pretty much everyone lived within walking distance of the sea.

in "in the eye of the hurricane", philbrick says that the americans used a map of costal currents made by an americam fisherman, which was publiclly available to the brits as well, though they never adopted it – he posists because they were too stuck up.
>>25325657
sounds kino. can you post an excerpt? during the french and indian war, washington stated (per douglas southall freeman) that only indians could beat indians could beat indians.
