Face of a man who spent decades fighting to save humanity and ended up losing everything at the end. This summed up the current state of the franchise sadly.

Around the runtime of a movie, so yeah this could have been one movie instead.

I like Ryuga but yeah, at this point they're running out of ideas.
It's not even because of his universe, I don't know if they're doing a Raiga sequel series would work.
>>
>>
I was hoping they at least had the budget for the final fight, but well, the cursed armor just appeared and gone like that, Garzas is a glorified dark knight with some sand magic trick, and Garo didn't even get a new form to defeat him.
Honestly I have no idea what they are even trying to do with this franchise at this point.
>>
Seeing Garo reach this state is a little depressing, but I'm also not surprised given the constant steady decline of each series. Shouldn't they start with a new series at this point? Garo should've been a one and done, with Makai Senki being a pleasant surprise. Divine Flame was more than what we could've asked for, and there were some parts of Vanishing Line that were awesome, even if the story and main antagonists were a nothing burger at the beginning, middle and end.

I feel Raiga having a son made a closure for the character, that's why Ryuga stay single.
>>23795638
Mappa went mainstream, director also left.

Makai knights are still normal human in term of lifespan anon, he will be fucking dust by then.
Either they just bullshit out some excuse for Rian to get out and have a uber Garo heir with dragon blood, or Ryuga get a new wife to continue the Garo bloodline, or someone will have to inherit that armor after he kicked the bucket as virgin.

Two characters revealed for the upcoming Keroro movie, Aruru and Deruru, and their designs are clearly references to Grounzel and Skyzel from Kyodain.

I don't think they actually ran out of ideas. It is more like they keep introducing new ideas that don't actually work and slowly diminishing the magic the original series has - Which is somewhat a flection of how a Makai Knight loses his rationality and grace the longer he wears the armor. This franchise is turning into a lost soul beast, all muscles and no brain.

Mach Baron is now subbed up to episode 12!
https://archive.org/details/machbaronsub
& the subber just told me they've finished timing episodes 13-20 & have just started working on subbing 13 proper, finally breaking their streak of only ever doing half of shows!

I watched the first episode of Akumaizer 3 a couple days ago. It's probably the oldest "hero" tokusatsu I've ever watched. I was surprised at how much they crammed into that single episode so they could establish the trio and the supporting cast as quickly as possible. I feel like if they were to remake or reboot it today, it would probably be episode 4 or 5 before all three protagonists formally teamed up, especially when the story is already so focused on Xavitan.

I had a tough time looking for their faces to change
I'm used to just sorta expecting a vague flap at most so actual facial dynamics took getting used to
also a mask of Zabitan (along with a fuckton of other showa crap) shows up in the Tobe Hooper version of Invaders From Mars

I've been reading through this manga and they keep bringing up this Southern Krauzer series where it's killing me that while some of the other homages are really on the nose I have not the slightest inkling of an idea what this one might be referencing.
>its purpose in the narrative is a "bad toku"
>aired some time in the 80s, implied to be a Metal Heroes-esque show (a scrapped character design was refined and used in the in-universe Janperson proxy)
>MC's dumb buckethead made it initially flop
>the writing itself was also not very good, it had rewrites before the series even started airing
>had a retool where they rework the setting to a samurai focus, the main villain is defeated in an instant and replaced, the horse just stops appearing altogether
>was such a flop it only was featured in Televi-kun a single time
This imagined toku keeps showing up since it's a major character's favorite but I don't know if it's actually based on anything specific or the idea of it being intended as a "really bad show" may have incentivized the author to make something up that wouldn't be perceived as taking jabs at a specific series. It's killing me not to know for certain.
I've seen some whispers about it being Jiraiya because the MC looks like Baron Owl but it seems like Jiraiya is looked on fondly.

It's kind of weird because Xavitan and Evil's faces are so abstract. The SIC/modernized designs they used in Fourze are a little better at showing those details.
>>
>>23800608
Could be a general combination of things related to the genre that were somewhat infamous at the time, I know Denjin Zaborger went through like 3 to 4 retools throughout the show but that was the 70s. The only metal hero show that I kinda recall having quite a few changes was spielban like the side-cast and their little hideout vanishing completely at one point. And yeah he does look like baron owl but he was pretty cool

Hell Yami was their attempt to expand and do Garo without Kouga, and Gold Storm was their attempt to make Ryuga more in line to traditional Garo after Yami being radically different. And Gold Storm being a success (likely because of Jinga) caused them to keep continuing on and on.
>>
>>23796120
>>23796195
Wait the Jinga series is another universe as opposed to the far future of Ryugaverse? Frankly they need to tie up that one with Ryuga facing Jinga to close their story altogether.

They kept it as vague as possible but Jinga mentioned Ryuga as someone he fought a long time ago, but at the same time it's hard to take at face value that the story takes place in some far future Ryugaverse when the setting is still that of a modern town.

Is it normal for Ultraman to just randomly have important story content in the compilation program which then promptly disappears from the face of the Earth forever? That kinda puts me off

I think that anon talking about one of those Retsuden (Anthology) shows.
The newest one (New Generation Stars) just had an episode yesterday that basically a continuation of Omega finale despite most of the episode is a clip show.

its funny how ever since sentai died, all these other toku have been crawling out of the woodworks
>>
>>23808306
Toku seems to be undergoing a bit of a boom period, maybe because more normalfag friendly entries like theatrical movies and anime. As well as perhaps people constantly hankering for superhero stuff and the previous strong points for that like the MCU and shonen manga have not been delivering too well recently.
But I'm not sure if this is actually the case, but I've seen more online discourse stray into toku than ever before, at least in the West.
>>
>>
>>23808320
Hopefully the west can deliver on superhero shows again without making them edgy deconstructions or some turbo left wing gender/raceswapping preachbox. But for now I am glad we have Kamen Rider, as long as it isn't shit like Black Sun, or "Adult Tokusatsu".
>>
>>23808320
>undergoing a bit of a boom period
Isn't it the opposite? Toku is more expensive to make than ever and people that aren't the big 3 studios or Garo are only able to make shorts like Beat Runners and MKP, and now one of those 3 are struggling since even something as iconic as Super Sentai couldn't sustain itself
>>
>>23808488
Well there's the financial issues but I mean culturally.
I get that the financials are having struggles but it seems like there's a growing interest in tokusatsu at the moment. It wouldn't convert to sales overnight, especially not if a lot of the interest is coming from foreign markets, admittedly.
>>
>>23808494
Thank you for explaining, you're right. There's been a harder push of people trying to launch their own toku or Japanese directors helping with Chinese toku due to filming limitations
Also I forgot which country but Toei is apparently doing a new toku on another country just like how they did with Bima but I forgot which one
>>
>>23808564
It's because the modern toku scene in Japan is so dire. Sentai is dead, Ultraman is on life support, Rider is slowly dying, and Project RED is DOA. Indie groups and China have been trying to fill the increasingly large holes that Japan's big studios are creating.
>>
>>23808896
>Rider is slowly dying
Is it? The last show was popular in japan despite the sales decreae but that was mostly because underproduction of toys as everything would sell out but they didn't have suply for it. The anime that ended recently also was one of the most popular anime in japan airing that season. They're also now doing their own movie and anime brand.
>>23808140
What's frustrating with Gavan is that judging by the concept arts the suits didn't ended up looking bad for any creative porpuse but rather the staff just being legitimately too much of a cheapstake to make a fully armored suit.
>>
>>23808896
I honestly doubt it, project RED is doing fine and the ultra series is quite stable too and even if hypothetically that was on life support it’s not tsuburaya’s first rodeo in that territory, when things get tough they always bounce back

We're in a transition time, right now. CGI is still expensive, so Toei's all greenscreen show projects will still be some time away. It's necessary for the greenscreen because of the limited access to locations to shoot toku.
It'd be nice if we could go back to the time of models and quarries, but it'll never happen.

I really wanted to like Juspion more then I did. It has fantastic on foot fights but....that's pretty much it. The Megabeasts are cool, but most of their fights suck, the show abandons its outer space adventures after like 4 episodes, Juspion himself starts out interesting by being a total buffoon out of the suit, but he suddenly becomes uber serious after getting a hair cut in episode 11 or so, with no development whatsoever.
I still had fun with it and its hardly the worst MH series I've seen, that would still be Jiban, but it really was nowhere near as good as I had been led to believe
>>
>>
>>
>>23812061
Yeah it's popular because it was one of the first metal heroes that came to Brazil but the show isn't that good
I didn't mind the cast getting stuck on earth due to budgetary reasons because the staff still made the show stylish as fuck but the actor complaining that his character was a poor influence to children and the show changing channels halfway through screwed the show up

I'd be fine with Juspion becoming more heroic and mature over time aft the show went on. But it was literally one ep he's a clown but then he gets a haircut and the next ep he's now super serious and mature.
It comes out of nowhere
