Also western mecha designs that purposely try to imitate eastern ones in general, I guess.
Thoughts? Did the Forza devs actually hire a mecha designer here or did they get some intern to do it?

It feels like the designer couldn't decide if he wanted to make a Gundam or a Transformer and made an awkward mix of the two. The torso and shoulders kinda invoke the front end of a car with its doors. Also funny how a multi-million dollar triple A game still has the feet clipping into the fucking ground.

Very common these days. Triple A is a scam. I think that it's less a mix of a Gundam and a Transformer so much as it's a mix of a medley of different not!Mobile Suit parts.
Anyways, related to this thread is this piece of art. I don't remember who made it or what it was particularly for, maybe a magazine or so, but it's quite obviously a riff on the Soltic H8.
I find it interesting sometimes to look at western attempts to mimic eastern designs. Frequently they don't quite get it just right, something frequently feels 'off'. This particular example is well divorced from its original IMO but I more mean that visually you can sort of tell, just as >>23812788 alludes, that whoever does it doesn't quite know what to do. The crotch is really weird.

It's from an issue of Playboy, of all things. It was done by a guy named Robert Giusti, who also did the book cover for Stephen King's It. Also did art for the some boxes of Celestial Seasonings herbal tea. Hell of a resume. I really like this art though, it's very futurist like old sci-fi book covers from the 50's. It has a style of its own meanwhile the Forza bot has basically no style to it. It's just so fucking bland.

No kidding, it’s even still got the okawara power cable pipes and everything. Almost vaguely resembles the 1978 prototype Zaku with the eyes. And to think that THIS came from a Playboy issue is hilarious, dougram really showed up in more places unexpectedly than I realize

those calves were a dead giveaway to an IBO-inspired design, took me a minute to find the gunpla with the exact same skirt armor.
