if you get kinda stupid deep into the lore, there's some weird stuff like the wyvern that is said to look similar to the epyon but isn't called a gundam, and wufei took the incomplete shenlong into battle about a year before the start of the show, and in a manga Treize already has blueprints for Epyon near the beginning of the show that implies he has been working on it for quite some time already but hasn't actually started building it yet

I'm guessing the invention of mobile suits aren't even 30 years old in GW, and the idea of making gundanium suits was right around the corner, but costs and R&D prevented it from happening earlier. But 5 genius scientists ironed out all the bugs and made 5 Gundams with zero problems.

yep, there's a old sidestory about an group of indepdent engineers working on next-gen MS that takes place at the same time as the TV series, and they were also working on gundanium MS that well, inexplicably also happen to have Gundam faces and V-fins. Except these guys are allied with OZ.

If you believe the absurd origin story of the Gundams in Wing, the original base Gundam design for all of them was designed 15 years before the start of the show by those 5 scientists working on it as a personal project, so no government or military ever knew about it. It only existed on blueprints as a theoretical design and no part of it was actually ever built (partly because the tech didn't quite exist yet). The 5 scientists thought to themselves "holy fuck this is too insanely powerful" and objected to their own project for moral reasons, so they decided it was best if they all individually fuck off to different corners of space to different colonies in self-exile, where they ended up making weaker Gundams on their own instead.
