I was watching tobby's new g6 video and I saw this pic of the G5 reboot concepts. I know we've all seen these but I've never seen the Row 7 designs before.
Does anyone have a higher rez picture of it? I really like Row 7 Rarity's mane, I DON'T like that her tail isn't curled though.

If the rumors about the Amazon UK banner being the G6 art style are real
then
WE'RE MOVING FROM BEANDOGS IN G5 TO FUCKING DUCKS IN G6 LOL

Honestly it's basically only Flutters. Rainbow and Pinkie look adorable and I think this is a very cute art style if it ends up being what it looks like. Flutters' snoot being smaller would fix everything here. It's a massive step up from G5 if real.

It's all overdesigned garbage. I mean what happened to the less is more ideal of Faust-era FiM designs?

Anon that's not G6. This was proven a while ago. This is repurposed old art.
>>
>>43181683
Yeah I was actually gonna correct myself. The Amazon UK thing is from March and the person who did the art for it was the one who did the cover art you're posting right there for MLP Generations. It's not G6; it's promotional art that's a fusion of the G1 and G4 style to try and capture an over-arching "brand image" for the MLP store page on Amazon. It lines up with Hasbro wanting to try and celebrate the entire franchise for their Year of the Pony thing they're doing. Thanks for the post about it.

>thanks for the post about it
np.
But g6 is absolutely going to star a rebooted mane 6 because the Mane 6 still makes Hasbro a fuck ton of money even to this day.
>>
>>43181644
Well, there was this article released awhile ago called something like The End of the Creator-Driven Era in TV Animation or something that explains all about it

The really funny thing is, people used FiM to try and say that it wasn't actually happening. Wacko fucking bonkers, amirite?

Oh no I was pondering that earlier myself. Thing is, I understand people have a fatigue for companies playing it safe and remastering old things instead of doing something new, and there are a ton of cases where it definitely does just feel safe and boring for sure. However, I'd argue with FiM there's more of an active demand in the market for more of the Mane 6, and providing the supply for it isn't "safe" so much as it feels obvious.

My opinion is nuanced. I think falling in love with a brand new generation of characters that are done well would be fun for sure, but there's really nothing wrong with just going back and doing G4 again either. Ultimately it really comes down to writing quality, but, people adore characters like Twilight and Rainbow etc so much that not including them is just ignoring a natural demand in the market at the moment. I don't expect FiM S1/S2 level quality, but I'm at least hoping for something cute with more soul than G5's plasticky vibe.

>The End of the Creator-Driven Era in TV Animation or something that explains all about it
kek, this is a really funny callback because FiM even started with some criticism of rehashing old ideas but ended up being fresh and original
Now we're at the Mane 6 being redone again and the same commentary being done to G6. Granted, I really kind of remain skeptical that it'll be as "fresh" as FiM was, but ay, still very excited even if just to see what it looks like.

>Row 7 designs
I think those are fan designs. The original Hasbro email only had the 6 in it. After the leak, there was a ton of "those are all shit, here's my better version" art.

Exactly. Some people can call it "rehashing" but doing something new simply for the sake of it when you have something that works is stupid.
TMNT reboots their characters, Ben 10 reboots their characters, Transformers reboots their characters.
There is no need for Hasbro to start from scratch again with their main characters especially after the failure of G5

Based. Row 4 is best row.
If I were to rank Row 4 mane 6 designs it would
>Twilight & Rarity
>Fluttershy
>Rainbow Dash
>Pinkiepie
>Applejack

I hope G6 looks like this. It feels like the best style. A good mix of cartoony, cute, serious, and expressive.

Oh yeah, the comparison to TMNT and Transformers reusing the same guys is on point. If anything, having recognizable, nostalgic characters in a toy commercial show is really important - draws old fans back in and even people who don't watch the cartoon can still go "Oh shit, a Shredder action figure!" and think it's cool enough to buy because they obviously know who he is.

I think the logic of "well it works" is exactly why we end up in the remaster hell with some shit, and it's more of a personal taste issue than an effectiveness one at that point. My thoughts for MLP in specific though are more like a remaster or reboot that has demand rather than one that's done just because it's a safe project. I guess that's subjective though. There are those "safe" Hollywood reboots like the 3D cgi family movies we've been seeing for over a decade based on random IPs parents grew up with, so they'd want to take their kids out to see it - people aren't exactly screaming and clamoring to go see Yogi Bear or the Smurfs in theaters, but it's familiar and familiar makes money, so it happens. The Mane 6 on the other hand, I think there are many many people who actively want more and want to buy more merchandise and see more cartoons featuring the characters, and in a much bigger way than just "ah, people grew up with Gen 1 Pokemon so if we put Charizard in things it's going to sell better". It's an actively interested fanbase, rather than a passively interested one.

Best row design/designs for each of the mane 6 here.
>Twilight = Row 4. Cute artstyle good color scheme, pulls off her multiple hair colors without being too different.
>AJ = Row 6. The only version of AJ on this pic that isn't butt ugly, she actually looks cool and hot there
>Pinkie Pie = Row 4. A bit busy but it works her her.
>Rainbow Dash = Row 4. Sleek and masculine without being too busy.
>Rarity = Row 4 & Row 6 are almost tied. Row 4 is the prettiest but Row 6 has a nice balance between the looser mane while still keeping the curl. Row 2 Rarity is pretty but she loses her mane curl which is an iconic part of her design.
>Fluttershy = Row 4 is the best option for her here.

Lol wrong. Row 4 surpasses Row 1 in style.

Will Reboot Dash have electric powers?
>>
>>43181714
This is the best design for a rebooted Rarity. Keeps the spirit of the character, and makes her easier to draw (one less curl to deal with) while still looking pretty.

Stupid mud pony. Fluttershy called dibs.

Twilight = Artificer
AJ = Barbarian or Fighter
Pinkie = Rogue or Bard
Dash = Fighter or Rogue
Rarity = Bard or Cleric
Fluttershy = Druid

Only in the US with Hasbro. Takara actually kept Optimus and friends dead.

Watching a 2D MLP cartoon series in this style would feel really comfy.
>>
>>43181712
I honestly kind of feel like Pinkie's mane is a little too "styled" here. It being messy and curly and unkempt is unironically a nice way to translate her personality into her design a bit.

>>43181725
Yeah her face made me go "wtf" at first too.

I'm not sold on winged Ponk but earth pony Twilight and unicorn Fluttershy are kinda kino

>>43181323
Rows 2 and 3 have the best designs, but I'm not at all a fan of the tribe swaps.
