I saw that too and was equally befuddled and upset. Even ignoring their quality, they're such a non-entity in the classic rock scene I don't understand why anyone would call them out. I could count on one hand the number of times I have heard Traffic on a classic rock radio station. Maybe they get a lot more play in the UK, I dunno.

On the contrary they were probably a lot more successful in the states, at least in the 70s. Four of their albums were gold top-10 sellers, and two of those didn’t even make the UK charts. Low Spark was probably every FM jockey’s favorite piss break song for a few years.

I’m that Anon and I refuse to take it back. Traffic are boring and stale and this song you posted just reinforces that. Mr. Fantasy is one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard.

Home by the Sea (both parts) is one of the best Genesis songs.
It's also 11 minutes long, has a giant instrumental section, is split into multiple parts and the lyrics are retarded so I don't care what anyone says, it's prog.

I was going to call you retards who have no idea what prog and/or good music is, but then "Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentlemen" off Love Beach came on. Perhaps I don't get those Genesis songs in the same way others don't get ELP's best post-1973 song.

Genesis did prog throughout their Phil-lead albums.
Like the anons said, Home by the Sea and Driving the Last Spike are both prog. Duke's original side A was supposed to be a Supper's Ready-styled epic, but was broken up because the band didn't want to draw comparisons. Phil and Tony hated being called prog, hell, Apocalypse in 9/8 was written by Tony to make fun of ELP, but there's no denying that they continued doing prog well into the '90s.

so we all agree that magma has the greatest late-era phase among all prog bands right? aside from maaaybe vdgg no one comes even close to magma from 2000-2019.

Of course it's Magma in terms of volume X quality. It also depends on what you consider late-era. IQ's released a great album 26 years after debut, and their best came out 5 years after that. I'm not a big Resistance or Dominion fan, but many are. Most fans would probably take their 25-40 year output over their 0-15 year output.
Many would argue Big Big Train didn't get good until 20 years after their debut.
I'll always bring up Mike Oldfield for creating his greatest piece of art 44 years after debut (admittedly a one-off after a long stretch of mediocrity).
These are weak arguments for a distant second, but I really don't care for VDGG's 21st century output.
