Why do hipsters hate modern prog unless it's quirky spork core bullshit?

Clown Pyramid is a costume performance. The wackiness is the fun; the grooves are the foundation. The real gem about them is they can play their instruments. They are probably driving the hardest grooves since Tool's EP Opiate.

Just caved and finally listened to Angine de Poitrine, they're not bad but they just remind me of Fripp's League of Gentlemen. I don't get all this talk about them having a super revolutionary sound.

These two bands are not even remotely comparable. One of them is British theater kid Windmill slop and the other is actually just solid prog but they wear funny costumes

not a single thing stands out to me in their entire repertoire, it's just like yeah i kinda dig this, kind of a one trick pony, cool outfits, the microtonal thing is cool but they don't do much with it beyond this sort of middle eastern rattlesnake sounding thing, not a lot of variation.
greep & his bands are on a different level entirely, he's hit or miss but is almost always doing something unique & memorable & the absolute musicianship is just undeniable, especially if you've seen the band live. i danced like i didn't know it was humanly possible to dance at their recent nyc show, i'm talking about interpretive skanking to 7/4 polyrythms

Prog honestly isn't so daunting when you realize bands like Yes literally stitched different jams together in the studio.
No need to get silly with it. Just come up with a bunch of cool parts, find a way to make them fit together, and unleash the dam.

Classic prog rock was the quirky spork core of its day. Nobody likes most modern "vanilla" prog because it's not nearly as daring, innovative or nearly as weird and outlandish as classic prog rock was relative to its time. Hence why the modern prog rock that does stand out and rated highly ends up being avant-garde, quirky, or whatever.
