>Never understood why these never made it here. Probably because the engine looks to be made of metal so it's prohibitively expensive
Euro and Aussie Fords always were built to much a higher standard than the US

If this stuff was good, why did bongs and aussies ignore it for chinese slop? you only have yourselves to blame for it not being made. Ford wants money, and if you were buying it it'd still be made.
Ford fans in america are the only ones who have any pride in their cars whereas Ford Europe and Ford Australia fans just ignore their shit for the next pile of asian import slop.

Falcons are pretty much guaranteed to wreck their diff bushes. Also the ZF 6 speeds have notorious solenoid problems, and there's a weak coolant connection that can milkshake the transmission fluid. And Territories are literally guaranteed (every single time) to drop their ball joints if you mount a kerb at full lock.
The Barra engine is pretty solid for reliability though. Can't really fault it. But part of that's just because it was detuned from the factory so that it wouldn't eat into the V8 sales too much.

Would've been an absolute pearler in the Mustang
Instead of the gimped N/A V6 that makes everyone say "why didn't you just get the V8?", or the ABSOLUTELY KEKED trim 4 cylinder turbo in a 2 tonne car, a Barra turbo Mustang would be an actually cool alternative trim package to the V8.

>and there's a weak coolant connection that can milkshake the transmission fluid
literally every automatic car made in the last like..... 40 years or something... has a transmission fluid heat exchanger in the radiator bro - run coolant, don't overheat your shit, replace your radiator within its service interval or when it appears worn.

FAA certification only requires the engine to run for 100 hours straight without failure, its not a marker of car use reliability otherwise the subaru headgasket memes wouldnt exist. Also of course an Australian engine doesn't have FAA certification, because there are none in the US...

The Ecoboost engines have been mostly reliable, particularly the 'high volume' ones. The 3.5 Ecoboost is easily the best half ton truck engine right now and its not particularly close either. Chevy's 6.2 has been a complete disaster and RAM cannot sell their inline 6s, nobody wants them. Ford is typically ahead of the curve by several years and it shows.

The engine doesn't need to be FAA certified if it's going into something "experimental" so it's irrelevant if it's got that rating. I used a plane swap as an example because if that engine fails your chances of dying are pretty high. Therefor you better not claim an engine is reliable unless it's being used in the most mission critical application possible.

>muh planes
Subipoo engines are common in planes, would ANYONE pretend those are reliable?
>>
>>
>>28911454
So if even a subipoo engine can be reliable after you "bulletproof them and reduce their power" doesn't that prove that ANY engine can be reliable after you "bulletproof them and reduce their power" and the >muh planes shit doesn't actually mean anything?

>doesn't that prove that ANY engine can be reliable after you "bulletproof them and reduce their power" and the >muh planes shit doesn't actually mean anything?
If that were true you would see all types of engines in planes yet it's the same handful of roadgoing engines that always get swapped.

It's almost as if plane engines are selected for other reasons like packaging - while reliability, as you already stated yourself, has little bearing.

The Ford Territory was entirely designed and made in Australia. It came with the Barra engine, and was basically an AWD Falcon SUV.
The Everest and Ranger are complete turds, according to my Ford mechanic cousin. He says they have a habit of blowing up engines. Also, "Ranger danger" is real - they're absolutely the worst drivers on the road.

>The barra is a massive engine, heavy long and tall.
So why the fuck would you want that in a roadgoing vehicle?
>>28911722
Have you seen the size of something like a V12 Merlin? Lycomings aren't exactly compact either.

Do what you gotta do but make sure you apply for your skull bashing license.

>>
>>
>>28913523
Okay so if weight and size doesn't matter then why would you even consider a small displacement i6 over a big block V8? Why would you use a big ass 4 liter engine when you could fit a 8+ liter V8 in it's foorprint? Gee and you people wonder why these never made it to America lol.

you retards are embarrassing. no wonder you never left the commonwealth.

where? I've honestly never seen australian anything in america except for the official sold chevy SS and pontiac G8 cars. americans are more concerned with importing kei junk from japan to stick it to their boomer parents who don't care.

For all intents and purposes, Ford AUS is a completely separate company.
Same goes for Ford EU, although there is soe level of coordination as to shared platforms with the US.

Fords the kind of company to blame a gasket than a major design flaw in the engine block on saving money. The Mazda design specified closed deck for forced induction, and open deck for NA. Ford is too cheap to tool for two different block productions. Anyway, they got Europe to finally fudge the design a little more and get them off the 2001 Mazda L series
