hello /o/,

This has been something I have been looking at on marketplace for a while and possibly want to buy as a little project car over the summer. However, I do not have experience wrenching. What may I or may I not be in for if I pull the trigger on one of these? Can I pull it off? Good learning experience?

Yes, those are great, relatively simple, have lots of documentation, and parts are still easy to get.
The manual AWD 2 door version does it for me, cute as fuck compared to modern SUVs.

Glad to hear it, I would love to get a 2 door version but for the price range im looking in I have to keep my expectations low. Im thinking the 1500-2500 range, which means I'll have to be prepared to fix some issues, but its really up to whats on the market when I'm ready to look

Yeah I figured you'd be looking for a regular one.
Just a cool nugget for any lurkers.
Look at how easy that looks! Man I love 90s japboxes.

Looks clean anon. What issues should I be aware of in one of these, especially considering the price range?

Idk I'm a miata guy but have only heard good of OG Rav4s and the mechanical layout looks really repai friendly.
Probably just the normal issues like gaskets, seals, bushings, pulley bearings but definitely google it.

I have to say it seems like you totally deserve it

It's a 30 year old vehicle at this point anon, it's gonna have issues. Almost any sub 5k shitbox likely needs
>wheels/tires, brake pads/rotors/caliper if there far too gone
>aging suspension components between dry rotted rubber bushings/mounts/soft spring/shocks
>every fluid probably needs to purged
>Only God knows what with any electrical issues that may arise
Yeah you might find it fun to work and do the easy shit as you go(absolutely worth it to learn how to fix basic shit for a life lesson) but in the back of your head, your slowly going to realize why people buy new instead of getting nickle and dimed everytime your car smells your pay cheque

Old Toyotas are great, but they're old and you never know how the previous owner(s) were about regular maintenance. I can't speak specifically on the 1st gen RAV, but all the other 30 year old Toyota's I've worked on were all pretty easy, parts are available and most of them aren't super expensive.
