the only vehicle ever made with rwd, fwd and awd on the same platform was mk6 and 7 transit. and thus its the only real comparison as to what is best. you cant compare a rwd bmw to a fwd vw, they where designed to do different things. now i have driven the 3 different drivetrains of transit and fwd is the best. it goes with all my other cars, volvo 850, alfa romeo 156, fwd just rules for highway cruising.

Not knowing much about the subject, I actually thought RWD cars were somehow more difficult to make because we're used to cheaper and more boring cars being FWD. It depends of the car. Some cars like BMW, Mazda(CX-90. CX-70, CX-60) inline 6 engines and 2.5l-plug in hybrid have RWD biased AWD. Geely-Volvo cars with T6 and T8 twin engine models are RWD biased AWD.
