This episode of Smackdown felt like a classic Vince episode:
>Wedding segment that ends with the bride being thrown in the cake after Danhausen cursed the Miz
>after weeks of calling Sami the gingerbread man Trick asks Sami to face him before Mania and out comes... a literal Gingerbread man (same thing as when Corbin dressed up a jobber in a dog costume)
>Hobbs wins the rumble but the tall Samoan gets to look strong
>Cody and Punk cry in the main event and thank each other for everything as if to say they're about to job the fuck out
Is he.. back?

do people really think vince invented all those stupid tropes in WWE? They existed in the territories for years beforehand, he just took them to the mainstream level- its why WCW was such a fresh breath of air and WWF had to change up their style

No. Your first three examples are all instances of shopworn wrestling skits that HHH has been aware of forever, and the closing segment was the opposite of what Vince would have done. Vince would have taken the opportunity to build up maximum interest in an effort to convince as many fence-sitters as he could to decide on spending the money to order the PPV. He wouldn't always succeed quite as much as he would have liked, but that was always his approach. HHH's final segment tonight was low energy and didn't involve any heat-generating conflicts. Instead of the lead in to Wrestlemania, it felt more like a lead in to the Raw after Wrestlemania, where it seems like the Creative department is eager to launch their WWE vs TKO civil war storyline after Cody and Punk drop their belts. It makes Wrestlemania feel like just another PLE. Vince is definitely not back.
