The International Federation for Equestrian Sports AKA Fédération équestre internationale AKA FEI oversees 6 great horse sports: Dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, show jumping, and vaulting.

Which one of those fine equine sports is your favorite? For me, it's dressage, the pinnacle of horsemanship.

Pic related: it's a horse doing some dressage

(there are other horse sports like horse racing or racing or riding bucking broncos, but those aren't overseen by the FEI)

I like watching horseys race, mostly a Japanese thoroughbred conniseur.

I've never met someone who is into horse sports but all of them that I've seen appear to be the worst people on earth. Animal abusing gambling addicts who love gambling so much that they genuinely believe the horses are not being abused and that anyone involved cares about the animals' wellbeing.
>>
>>154176323
I have met exactly one person who is into horse racing (and nobody who likes any non-racing horse event). He is a habitual gambler, but only spends about $50/week on all gambling. He's a loser pushing 60, but genuinely loves horse racing even if he couldn't bet money on it. He's a huge animal lover and thinks the horses have the competitive spirit and love racing just as much as people. As someone who couldn't give two shits about it, I'm inclined to believe him.

First legs of the Japanese triple crown and triple tiara tours, the 3 big races every 3 year old colt and filly wants to get their hands on.
Its said the triple tiara or triple crown winner is set to define a generation of racehorses, the most prestigious race of the 6 is the Japanese Derby but the highest rated horses tend to be those who can will all 3.

The first leg of the mare Classic, Japanese version

The field is extremely stacked this time around, but seems like it boils down to Dream Core vs Star Anise. But this horse racing, and especially a Classic so anything can happen. Personally, I am longing for an Alankar victory
The race can be watched on YouTube, or at the “usual place”
kick .com/b01doghos
I am not an expert on keiba so you should ask more when the experts came
>>
>>154186948
Satsuki Sho - first leg of the Japanese Classic Triple Crown, 2000 meters (10 furlongs or around 1 and 1/4 of a mile) on Turf, 3-Year-Olds only, 1st Place earns 200,000,000 Yen (around 1.2 million US$).
It was first run in 1939 and is the Japanese equivalent of the English 2,000 Guineas. (Note that the original 2,000 Guineas is run at 1,609 meters, or one mile, about two furlongs shorter than the Satsuki Sho), it's the first step for achieving the Classic Triple Crown, something that was done only 8 times in history of Japanese horse racing
Outside of the prestige, the winner of the Triple Crown earns a bonus of 300,000,000 Yen (around 1.9 million US$)

Oka Sho - the equivalent of Satsuki Sho but for the Classic Triple Tiara (only fillies and mares can run in this), 1600 meters (8 furlongs or 1 mile) on Turf, 3-Year-Olds only, the winner earns 140,000,000 Yen (around 900k US$)
The Oka Sho was first contested in 1939, and is the Japanese equivalent of the English 1,000 Guineas.
A winner of the Triple Tiara earns a bonus of 100,000,000 Yen (around 600k US$)
Only 7 mares in Japanese racing history achieved The Triple Tiara

For some reason there is a sizable audience for Japanese horse racing (keiba) on this website so hopefully we can keep this as a general going forward
Of course, not only Japan’s but we are all interesting in the ridiculous speed competition of an one-toed, hoofed animal that for some reason always carries a mysterious bipedal meatsack on their back
>>
>>154190059
>For some reason
It's because of Umamusume, It adapts Japanese horse racing history in a very faithful way. People start playing for the silly concept and then just fall down the rabbit hole, though in my case it straight up became my main hobby. I started keeping track of HK, US, UK, Irish, French and Australian racing scenes, not just the Japanese one. I even go to my local racetrack
Horse racing is like crack
>>
I am glad you degenerate gamblers keep the sport of kings going.
>>
I think this Oka Sho is Star Anise's to lose for now, but i do not doubt Dream Core will shake things up, Alankar too i think Take is in good shape to ride lately, he only lost the Osaka Hai because Croix Du Nord is simply awesome with last bursts and Meisho Tabaru lost one of his horse shoes.

I wish for a massive upset with Shonan Charis winning, Real Steel's blood for the win!

I just started getting interested in horse vrooms about a year ago, but I am extremely excited to see that a lot of anons on this board are also interested.
I'm a little concerned with how much hirse racing is predicated upon gambling, but I am going to try to focus on the sporting aspect and keep these threads going.
For me, it's Grand National and staple chase, but flat ovals are cool, too, if a bit short.
>>

>>
>>154191234
Did you enjoy the Grand National today, anon?
>>
>>154191277
More than you could imagine.
I have rewatched it 3 times already.
THAT was a sporting event.
I have watched multiple past races before, too.
Sleep chase and Grand National are kino AF.
My big question is how did people get such retarded skittish animals the standard artillery barrages and cavalry charges?
>>
>>154191606
I've always assumed horsemanship and horse tactics in battle are quite a bit different from how we imagine them and how they're portrayed in movies. I honestly don't know tho
>>
>>154191796
Totally. But they have driven warfare since Alexander the Great and Gengis Khan to WWII.
I've ridden horses at summer camp and they're totally retarded. It's amazing that they can be trained to tolerate Chasseurs shooting carbines off their backs, let alone jumping obstacles for /sp/ort.
I love dogs, too, but they are more clearly obedient and retarded, so horse still intrigue me.

JP Horse racing:

https://en.netkeiba.com/ for lineups/pedigrees/etc.

The Oka Sho will be Hanshin Race 11. It's a race for 3YO fillies 1600 meters on turf. (In Japan and Europe, Turf races are considered more prestigious, whereas in North America and the Middle East the Dirt races are where the big time money and prestige go.

I think someone put the kick link further up the thread, it has japanese commentary, it's a feed from a Japanese racing channel that rotates between the tracks running that day.

For english commentary you have to find a pirate stream of Fanduel TV or Fanduel racing, which will rotate between different tracks throughout the world, usually only covers the japanese races from the main track, or some people have said you can see it on the JRA youtube, but i think it might be region locked.

there's also a site the jp players have put up where you can fantasy bet imaginary yen https://dacchi.gudnight.fyi/dashboard.html

Some extra info on the Oka Sho runners.
Star Anise
>Won an impressive victory in last year’s Hanshin Juvenile Fillies, earning the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly.
>Her winning time in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies was tied with Ascoli Piceno (2023) as the fastest in the past 10 years.
>Recent examples of two-year-old champions going straight to win the Oka Sho include Sodashi (2020) and Liberty Island (2022).
Dream Core
>She claimed her first graded stakes victory in the Queen Cup.
>Her mother, Normcore, is a distinguished ohimba who won the 2019 Victoria Mile and the 2020 Hong Kong Cup
>This will be her first race outside the Kanto region, she has taken measures by arriving early at Ritto Training Center.
Garavogue
>She finished second in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. Her estimated final three-furlong time was the fastest in the field, surpassing that of the winner, Star Anise.
>She finished ninth in the Queen Cup. But now she's back in Hanshin, where she has never missed the exacta.
>Her full brother, Danon Scorpion, won the 2022 NHK Mile Cup.
Festival Hills
>After winning the Fantasy Stakes, she was forced to skip the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies due to a fracture.”
>Her half-brother, Museum Mile, won last year’s Satsuki Sho and also took the Arima Kinen.

i gotta be honest, I just started this thread Friday as kind of a joke because I'd watched a bunch of dressage videos on Youtube. We very rarely have horse racing threads here. We did have a great thread for one of the races (Saudi Cup maybe) earlier this year that got as much attention as the Kentucky Derby usually does because of all the horse fans that video game brought in.

You should ride one. Having a 1000 pound monster moving on its own between your legs is an experience. 2000 pounds if its a draft horse.
>>
>>154208811
I rode a horse at summer camp as a kid and didn't like it. Being that high up scared the hell out of me. I vowed never to ride a horse again.

I've been up close to the rail during a horse race, you don't realize just how powerful race horses are until you see them running like that.
>>
>>154208919
I helped with beginner riding classes in a certain urban metropolis and it was great helping people experience riding horses for the first time and it always hits them the first time they mount one. Like you can see it on their face and you have to help them remember to hold onto the reins. It's a great experience to see and it was only a year before I rode a horse for the first time. God help you going at anything faster than a walk, or gear 1.

I also helped at a petting zoo and helped kids ride ponies and it wasn't that special. Most kids, 3-10, didn't even realize they were riding a horse (pony) so there was almost nothing for them to gain from it.

I would say getting into horses is a very life changing experience, but it's expensive depending on where you're at, especially outside of North America.

It is also filled with women, very petty, very tribalistic women. You see the sports OP >>154173880 are talking about? It is filled with women willing and able to get you fired from you jobs in the English world. Almost all the English sports, including at the Olympic level, are not bringing their best because all the men got bullied hard out of the sports. The few guys that show up only do so very quickly and get the fuck out because how much hell the girls will bring down on them out of jealously and pettiness.

I'm one, I was here yesterday, the Satsuki sho (1st leg of the Japanese triple crown) will be soon so we'll be around, in the meantime I've actually been looking around my area to see if i can support a local track. coming to really appreciate equestrian sports and the animals as a whole.
>>
>>154215016
Based local track supporter. If you like equestrian sports outside of racing you can search here: https://www.usef.org/compete/competitions to find events near you. Since not all sports are part of US Equestrian, you can check with things like your local 4H organizations, horse barns, and fairgrounds in your area. Check Facebook too, because in most areas a lot of the discussion about these events will take place there.

Why don't they ever interview the horse after big races? I bet the horses have a lot to neigh.

What do horses neigh about all day?

Anyway yeah but they're mostly in Rio and São Paulo, TV Gávea has races every saturday but they're not particularly big, especially compared to Japan, Dubai, France, England and the US
We did host Frankie Dettori's retirement race though, it was cool

It always makes me laugh how many horses ends up with Italian names, considering we're not very relevant in the international racing scene
I guess the italian words/phonetics just have a pleasing sound?

Some info on the Satsuki Sho runners by the JRA
Cavallerizzo (by Saturnalia)
・The winner of last year’s Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes, and recipient of the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Colt.
・In that Asahi Hai, he powered through heavy rain-soaked ground and produced a brilliant inside run to win.
・If he wins the Satsuki Sho, he would be the first Asahi Hai winner to do so since Logotype in 2013, and the first ever to do it without a prep race.

Lovecen (by World Premier)
・The winner of last year’s Hopeful Stakes. His back-to-back wins from debut made him the first horse to achieve the feat since the race was elevated to G1 status.
・Finished third, beaten only by a photo, in this year’s Kyodo News Hai. It was a solid run considering it was his first time at Tokyo.
・Posted an impressive time in training on 8 April, indicating improved condition, and will be looking to bounce back at the same G1 stage where he previously triumphed.

Basse Terre (by Kitasan Black)
・Won the Yayoi Sho Deep Impact Memorial with back-to-back victories following a maiden win, instantly emerging as a leading Classic contender.
・In that race, he surged from behind with a turn of foot unmatched by the field, showcasing exceptional ability.
・His sire, Kitasan Black, finished third in the Satsuki Sho after three straight wins; this colt now aims to go one better with a fourth consecutive victory.

Peintre Naif (by Kizuna)
・Winner of last year’s Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes, where the runner-up was Zoroastro, who later won the Kisaragi Sho.
・Skipped the Yayoi Sho due to cellulitis, but training has gone smoothly since his recovery.
・His stable’s predecessor, Equinox, finished second in the Satsuki Sho after coming straight from the Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes.
>>154241345
Italian is just a nice sounding language. How's horse racing in Italy nowadays anyway? All I know is that it's probably dying the fastest in Europe.

Realize Sirius (by Poetic Flare)
・Claimed his first graded title in the Keisei Hai last time out, drawing attention with a stunning late kick (estimated final 600m in 33.8 seconds).
・The race was also high in quality, recording the fastest winning time of the past decade, with runner-up Matenro Gale going on to win the Wakaba Stakes next time.
・Proven at Nakayama over 2000m at graded level, and his strong recent training performances are another positive.

Admire Quads (by Real Steel)
・Won the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes in a head-to-head battle with Cavaleletzzo, setting a two-year-old course record.
・Finished third as the favourite in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes after failing to settle into the race. Now aiming to claim a G1 title.
・Considering his last run came off a lay-off and at a new distance, it was a solid effort. He is expected to show his true ability this time.

Forte Angelo (by Fierement)
・Finished second, just 0.1 seconds behind Robchen, in the Hopeful Stakes after coming off a runner-up finish in the 1-win class, highlighting his potential.
・In that Hopeful Stakes, he raced prominently with ease even on the G1 stage, displaying excellent race sense.
・Despite not racing since December, he has undergone intense and productive training, suggesting he returns in improved form.
>>
Matenro Gale (by Epipipipipi)
・Narrowly beaten in the Keisei Hai, but followed up with an impressive victory in the Wakaba Stakes thanks to smart positioning and a strong time, showing clear improvement.
・His Wakaba Stakes winning time of 1:58.5 is the fastest in the race’s history, even including editions held at Nakayama prior to 1999.
・Continues to develop steadily through experience, and will look to utilise his racecraft at the G1 level.

Ask Edinburgh (by Leontes)
・Still seeking his first graded win, but has shown consistency with placings of 2nd in the Kyoto Nisai Stakes, 3rd in the Hopeful Stakes, and 2nd in the Spring Stakes.
・His seven-race career is tied for the most among this field, steadily building experience and improving with each run.
・Last time out, he briefly challenged for the lead in the final stretch before finishing a close second. How he uses his sharp turn of foot, well-suited to Nakayama, will be key.

Based Japanese horse expert. Does this race have any horse that will be of interest to umamasume (or whatever it's called) fans? I loved how they've been showing up for races.

>>154241491
I love it. I wish Equibase looked like this
>>
>>154242598
Uma fans will probably show up for most G1s if informed. I remember Lovcen from when we watched the Hopeful Stakes on /v/.
>>
>>154242598
Outside of any connections to the current character roster, any G1 winner is automatically a candidate to be added to the game, ergo following races = learning about characters that will be added to the game
It's a pipeline from Uma -> Horse racing
>>
>>154242625
I will venture over to /vm/ at some point to tell them
>>
>>154242676
>any G1 winner is automatically a candidate to be added to the game,
Excellent
>>
>>154242532
>Proven at Nakayama over 2000m at graded level,
He has neither run at Nakayama nor over 2000m
>>
>>154242684
There are also those that did not win any G1, but it's harder to predict them being added
Either way, the game is dependent on what's happening in the Japanese horse racing scene, so fans will always be following that
>>
>>154242705
Oh wait, that was for Green Energy. My bad.
>>
>>
>>154242714
Love my 1980's jobbers with exactly 1 G1 win.

>>154242850
Back then most of the horses didn't even train full time. They often had second jobs as plumbers and day laborers.

>How's horse racing in Italy nowadays anyway?
Can't really say, but there was never widespread recognition. The only horse that got popular enough to gain popular recognition was the trotter horse Varenne and it immediately died out as soon as he stopped racing. There's an historical race called the Palio di Siena that has extremely high media coverage, but it's not a prestigious race. The track has also a weird shape with a sharp turn that almost always ends up in a disaster at some point (they do multiple laps). There's also a lot of bumping and interfering involving, and the horse can win even if the jockey falls iirc. I was never a fan of it because the horse are legit put under insane strain, but every criticism is always deflected with "muh history" the same way a spanish corrida is
>>
We’re a harness racing nation, it’s stupidly big here

>FJuan is horrible, arguably worse than 2014
>NASCAR refuses to let go of gimmicky points system and properly let go of the retarded playoffs that got absolutely solved to complete public humiliation by Penske and Logano in 2024 and they go back to the chase system which was already solved way back in the 10s
>WEC has BoP but it's the least of the worst gimmicks
>no viable way to watch WRC for me
>never gave Indy or MotoGP a try and that's on me
I really shouldn't be surprised I'm more excited about horse racing than most motorsports these days
Horses are cool and the racing is tight and honest, and when it isn't tight it's a marvel to behold, I'm not even into the betting aspect
What local time is the Satsuki Sho gonna be? I'll try to catch it live depending on when it starts

Does that Japanese horse game ever add non-Japanese horses that win big races?
>>
>>154245710
At the moment, all non-JP horses are only NPCs (I suspect that Cygames might try to add at least some playable ones in the coming years)
For instance, these three are rival NPCs in the L'Arc scenario that is focused on winning the French G1, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
>>
>>154245760
From left to right they are
Venus Paques - based on the French mare Treve
Montjeu - based on the French horse Montjeu
Rigantona - based on the British horse Dancing Brave

They should add Magnitude to the game
>goober horse who needs a fucking emotional support teddy bear to not sperg out
>never won a G1 in his life
>makes it to the DWC
>wins against Forever Young of all horses
>in the highest paying race in the world
My fucking hero
But I bet the FY owner is butthurt about it since he owns Cygames so if Magnitude got added, the uma musume version would be worse than Haru Urara
>>
>>154245884
>in the highest paying race in the world
That would be Saudi Cup not DWC (at least for dirt races)
And I doubt Fujita is butthurt, especially when this only adds to the writing potential for FY's career story in the game, and then there is the fact that he seems to be fine with FY very likely getting fucked in Arima Kinen
I hope it pushes the connections to go to BCC again this year even though they complained that going to Keeneland is a pain in the ass compared to Del Mar
>>
>>154245884
Holy fuck I just realized something
>horse that beats Japanese horse that might as well be the best in its generation in one of the biggest stages in the horse racing world is called MAGNITUDE

>>154245965
I'm not sure that's how it goes since Fujita isn't in the writing team, the most he can do is veto shit and make broad requests
>>
>>154246320
if what he said about what he told the design team, basically giving them a blank check, I would assume he will do the same for the writing team
Not like this loss was any different from the other ones FY suffered. I don't see a reason for Fujita to be bitter about it
