The NBA actually just straight up fucked up a team I think in the 80s or 90s when they traded like their entire future(forgot exactly what the NBA did). The clippers situation probably isnt deemed as bad because there are still a mountain of stupid people that think the paul george trade was reasonable, because stupid people still to this day think "stack the deck with multiple stars with zero consideration of fit and ancilarry pieces is how you win a chip". To be fair those early kawhi clippers teams were solid enough, that they could have MAYBE gotten 1 chip (still wouldnt consider it worth it, it would have been like trading steph curry for some top 15 player in the early 2010s, or Klay for Kevin Love, which was legit on the table. Its always bad. The only star it has ever ever worked for (in the 21st century) is Lebron fuarking James. And even then he only won two championships in 4 finals appearances because of just how stretched thin the 4th and 5th, and 6th, and 7th and 8th players on the roster were in 2011, and 2013/14.

Maybe Shaq in 06 is another exception? But I dont think they gave up THAT much for him, and besides they only won 1 championship with that crew.

People forget that the warriors didnt have to give up anything for Durant because Curry was being underpaid and salaries and cap space conveniently ballooned right before that trade. If the warriors had to trade any of their core for Durant, what you end up with is a similar situation to 2019, where they barely pulled through, and were playing dude like Quin Cook in the NBA finals, and blew everything up right after and regressed immensely right before they won another one, and right after they won another one.
