After 110 years, 8th tier side VCD Athletic (short for Vickers, Crayford & Dartford Athletic Football Club) have announced they are to fold at the end of the season. They currently play in the 8th tier Isthmian League South East Division, having been promoted last season. Their historic ground Oakwood has changed owners, and the new owners have not offered a new lease.

The club was founded in 1916, during the First World War, as a company team by employees of the Vickers armaments factory in Crayford. They were entwined with Arsenal FC in a fashion who of course have similar origins, a number of Arsenal players who were completing their war service at the works played for VCD.

I know London is full of non-league clubs but to lose one so old is a real shame. It's cultural vandalism, much like many other things happening these days.

Seen a lot of this going on with clubs suddenly folding due to them no longer having a stadium. Hillingdon Borough's another one.
