As always, the Linear Guild is a foil. They're the only player on the world stage that is operating entirely for petty reasons. Everyone else has a higher calling, some awareness of what's at stake, or a reason to give a shit. Nale is coming at this the exact way the party came at the first few Gates, in just as clumsy a manner.

Never really liked Serini, and this comic just keeps reminding me why. The “old hag that berates everything you do” gag got old after the Order kicked her ass, and it’s getting more old than Xykon’s bony butt now.

when the comic finally ends I'm gonna go back and read it all start to finish
did they ever convert to 5e or are they still in 3.5? I 'member like the first joke in the whole comic being "guys, we 3.5 now LMAO!"
>>
>>97886958
The good news is that even with the atrocious release cadence when you read it as an anthology the comic has extremely good pacing, though there's no getting around the multiple decades of webcomic trends causing strange eddies. They're still on 3.5, though there was a fun non-canon side comic where they fought their 4e dopplegangers. The direct references to game mechanics and the overall structure have dropped off as the plot has picked up, so it also matters less.

cool TY. Man there are so many webcomics I used to read that I just... don't, anymore.
>Girl Genius
>Gunnerkrigg Court
>Questionable Contentman that one got REALLY shit after the robot fight club arc finished though
The more I look back the more I'm glad my first webcomic Bob and George finished its run, wrapped, and went to look back over what it'd done from a cliff overlooking the city, as befits a megaman credits sequence.

Girl Genius is out of the castle through a series of side castles and onto another castle which is on fire.
It helps the Foglios are old hands at comics and can actually pace things when read over a monthly/yearly basis. Pointless adventure sidestories aside.

This anon is basically right, though the pacing definitely starts to drag in book 6, with unnecessary subplots and even a few filler strips.

This time Nale is here as an agent of the IFCC, not as his own man. The payoff to Nale's return is likely that he'll serve as the fall guy for whatever the three fiends' REAL plan is (I have a hunch, but w/e)

I remember I used to read Paranatural because the premise was interesting enough, but lost interest because the pacing was even worse than OotS's is and they spent over a year playing fucking Dodg-I mean Hitball.

Xykon already fills that role, though.

It’s mostly the difference between someone trying to end the world to give a middle finger to the gods, and someone trying to end the world to get paid a hundred bucks. Nale doesn’t care about the world ending since he thinks he’ll get to live on in Hell with Sabine and be allowed to plan out his brutal petty vengeance against his dad and/or Elan. If that were threatened, he’d be coward enough to reconsider what he’s doing. Xykon wouldn’t. He’d hear that the structure of the universe is at stake and not just the world, and his plans wouldn’t change. He’d be willing to go down with the ship if it meant spiting the gods unless he gets something out of any acquiescence part, and possibly not even then.

maybe, maybe not
Xykon might as well decide that he wants the world to continue so he can wreak havoc in it
he's the biggest wild card of them all, his actions are unpredictable

I don't fucking know man, I stopped checking for updates after like three years of radio silence. It wasn't the first Bob and George sprite comic to just end without notice (RIP to Metroid Prime Third Derivative) though it might just be the last.

no xykon said it himself he doesn't want to destroy the world, after all some of his best evil was committed here. he's just not aware of the situation (as far as we know. I'd not be surprised if it turns out he knew about the nature of the gates and helps the gang in protecting the last one, just as a fuck you to roy)

It wouldn't surprise me if Xykon fucks Redcloak by making a deal with the IFCC. By now he's certain that Redcloak is lying to him about the ritual, and the fiends could offer a pretty good deal - break the gate, and they'll make him a demon prince, except he doesn't have to listen to the Gods, and he can just fuck around doing evil shit for all eternity. Would be pretty lol for Xykon and Redcloak to reach the gate only for the former to just instantly break it

Given that some of the Evil gods are onboard with saving the world (and some of the Good ones are in favour of ending it), how do you think Xykon would answer if he was just straight-up offered Godhood by the Pantheons in return for abandoning the Gates plan?

YOU FUCKING SUCK SERINI!

>how do you think Xykon would answer if he was just straight-up offered Godhood by the Pantheons in return for abandoning the Gates plan?
He's already immortal and any proffer would only serve swell his ego to the size of a small continent; he has no taste for the responsibilities or tedium of godhood and just the idea of being a threat large enough for the gods to collaboratively destroy all of material existence rather than risk him succeeding would give him a metaphoricalbonerhard enough to saw through adamantium. He knows that he's currently probably the biggest swinging dick in the world, but being enough of a badass for the gods themselves to get off of their square asses and become personally invested in stopping you is on another level entirely. All that the gods getting involved would do is make him push harder.
>>
>>97893332
lichdom is only a temporary immortality
godhood gives true immortality, in fact it gives meta-immortality spanning universes
if Xykon's own words are to be believed, he's big on avoiding death, so he should at least consider it

>godhood gives true immortality, in fact it gives meta-immortality spanning universes
A bunch of the gods died, so that's definitely not true. The gods aren't even unique in surviving the destruction of worlds, the outsiders do that as well, so a powerful lich could probably manage it via dimensional fuckery.

Ken, alongside Ryu, is a character in Street Fighter. Ryu and Ken both use a martial art called Ansatsuken (assassination fist) which revolves around controlling a spiritual force known as Satsui no Hado (basically, killing intent). The move Hadoken, emblematic of all fighting game fireball moves, is a release of the hado.
>>
>>
>>97893960
at the very least it gives much greater immortality than a phylactery
and "certainly become a god" beats "maybe survive dimensional wipe through unspecified shenanigans"
I'm not saying he would certainly go for godhood
I'm saying he might

Xykon made it very clear he does not want to follow any rules, period. I could easily see him turning down godhood because it would heavily restrict what he is and isn't allowed to do which goes against everything he stands for.
That said, even with that I doubt the gods would make any deal with him anyways. They're already being incredibly stubborn about the idea of working with the Dark One even though his help could end the threat of the Snarl for all of eternity, and Xykon's even more of a wild card who would try to cause more problems.
>>

>>97894296
I know, it's extremely frustrating, and I always get frustrated when technology doesn't work properly for me, and it's even more frustrating because I can still see other people posting so it feels like I'm being singled out, which also pisses me off.
>>
>>
>>97894868
You remember Xykon's whole speech to V about how power isn't something you put on and take off like a jacket, it's something you just are, and that if you can lose your power by blowing two will saves, you never really had any power to begin with? Same goes for immortality. If there's any way to render you killable, you aren't really immortal. You've just indefinitely delayed the inevitable, you haven't actually escaped it.
>>
>>97894896
okay? I don't disagree with you on that
but it doesn't change the fact that godhood means delaying the inevitable for much, much longer than mere lichdom
play your cards right and you extend the "escape" literally millionfold
>>
>>
>>97894896
>>97894919
I think the takeaway is that if Xykon is presented with an opportunity to become "more immortal" than he already is, he's going to take it.
Probably.
>>97888660
He did. His son took over the family business. So the comic is still going but it's a different writer now.

Darths and Droids is a team effort, but mostly by David Morgan-Mar, the guy who also makes Irregular Webcomic.
>>
>>
>>97892482
Unless Xykon could manifest a new pantheon color I don't think the gods would be interested. The only reason they haven't already wiped this world is because the dark one might bring something new to the table.
godhood just to get him to abandon his plan? I don't think either party would go for that... Which pantheon would even take him?
>>
>>97886323
To be fair, he's got a good point
The only people he cares about are a succubus and a guy who was happy in hell anyway. His choices were either "destroy the universe and become an immortal demon prince" or "get punted back into the river styx"

I would have said he could do like Vecna and basically just ascend for the sake of telling the other gods where they can stuff their rules and regulations and form his own pantheon with blackjack and undead hookers.
>>
>>97902586
I think in that event, the other Gods sharing his quidity would simply gang up and kill him since the "rules and regulations" are in place to prevent the creation of another snarl which they are gravely afraid of.
>>
>>97903125
Admittedly, I consider it more of a hypothetical since Xykon doesn’t strike me as the godly type, but you have a point. Even if I’m not sure they would have to fear a Snarl like that, anyone who would be part of a pantheon started by Xykon would be petty and greedy enough to kill him for his followers and stuff anyways.
