A demon is a black mana construct from the plane of Hell.
A nightmare is a generic mana construct.
A spirit is the soul of the dead or natural world.
A specter's only trait is it always rides a flying mount with it maybe being the actual specter.

I want an Orzhov sphinx. There are monoblue sphinxes, there are Dimir sphinxes, there are Azorius sphinxes, there are Esper sphinxes, there's even an Izzet sphinx, but there isn't an Orzhov sphinx, let alone a monoblack one. I think that's bad and more than a little homosexual.

I don't think it would be super difficult to write them back. The way they went they were sucked into the giant dragonstorm ritual not long before Jace entered the meditation plane from Tarkir and did his big oopsie. Bullshitting them into having transmigrated into his new multiverse doesn't seem like a tall order.

Legend of kora was so fucking shit I'm convinced they plagiarized the first series from someone else. Or maybe it's just the woke mind virus that has infected everything from movies, tv series, even mtg itself with garbage artwork like the fucking leech collector.
TLA set was pretty good though. I enjoyed drafting it a few times. The pre-release was a lot of fun with the different character packs. Badger mole has fucked the game, I'm not sure any other cards mean jack shit. Maybe a few of the lands. Wan shit tong?
Avatar itself is a dead franchise and it's not coming back. The absolute ass pull that was making her a dyke at the end was unbelievably retarded.

Me and my friend were having trouble figuring out a ruling.
So player A has earthbenders ascension with 4+ counters and is attacking with multiple eathbent lands. Player B blocks all three of those lands and has blockers strong enough to kill them.
When do the lands die and come back tapped? Is it after combat has completely resolved? Do they die in any order? We were unsure if them dying and coming back could trigger the landfall effect on ascension during combat and possibly give one of the lands +1 counters.

No, it's just that they had a big team for AtLA while Korra is basically all Bryke. You could see the early warning signs of Korra tier writing in AtLA season 3, where Bryke was becoming more unchecked.

Short answer as the other anons said: We dont.
Long answer: Even in the older days of 4 sets a year, the amount of cards that actually changed the meta in eternal formats were only a handful and even then it took a while for some cards to be "discovered" and figured out sometimes. With the massive amount of sets, the designs for most of these new cards are also really bland and derivative, so unless it's something really overpowered or really unique, we don't really bother keeping up with every single new card anymore.
Hence why other anons are now constantly talking about cube and such, so we can curate our own draft experiences without relying on WotC's bloated and generic card design now.

This doesnt make sense to complain about in a business perspective
If you normally buy X sets a year what difference does it make if wotc releases 10 more? All you're saying to them is "you're releasing too many things we want to buy" which only proves wotc is correct in pushing fomo and that this isnt a problem
>no the sets suck now and the powercreep is insane that's why i'm mad
Then the number of sets is irrelevant, you would've whaled on all of them had wotc tickled your fancy and given you the appropriate power level

Can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. I mean, how do you expect the skilled and fine writers at wotc to explain how one dragonlord got merked but not the rest? Nah, it's a much better solution to off-screen them so the writing team can insert new, commander-friendly OCs of their own.

The only good reason to revisit a plane is for common sense conflict but tarkir 2.0 only changed the dragons not the status quo itself which makes the whole thing a dud; bolas couldve been released in any other set

>If you normally buy X sets a year what difference does it make if wotc releases 10 more?
Because I don't buy stuff with a yearly cap, I buy stuff when it interests me and when they make too much product, they stretch the interesting cards and designs over several sets instead of all being in a single cohesive one, you autist.
>All you're saying to them is "you're releasing too many things we want to buy"
No, they are releasing too much shit I do not care about. While back in the day we could have one set that was kind of meh, now we have several that are mediocre to downright bad in terms of design quality and power scaling bullshit. I haven't bought a single sealed product since War of the Spark and have only been buying singles ever since, clearly not the business model WotC wants PRECISELY because there's so much shit I don't even bother anymore. For example, I was thinking about playing the SOS pre-release, but I wasn't really feeling it this time, so I'll just wait for the next pre-release in a month or so and check it again. Back in the 4 sets format, I'd probably be more interested in playing it because I'd have to wait 3 months, because pre-release was a rare treat. Now that we have it every month, with blander and blander sets, I feel less and less compelled to even try and I'll just wait it out specifically for sets I even want to bother with, so in your logic, I'd play on average 3 pre-releases per year and now I just play 1 or 2, if that, because I'm not pickier with what I buy or play because the quality has diluted so much that I actually have to sift through the blandness and make a decision.
>Then the number of sets is irrelevant, you would've whaled on all of them had wotc tickled your fancy and given you the appropriate power level
Yes, if the product was good, I'd buy the product. Very fucking smart, anon. More product means more generic design means boring/shitty product. Get it now?

And that triggers your autism even though it shouldnt affect a sane person (you only buy stuff you like remember) sorry but wotc doesnt care about your disability no matter how much they virtue signal

You fucking retard. They have a limited amount of design space and designers, more product means a more diluted product or shoving the cool stuff in products I don't care about, like cool stuff for constructed in commander trash or unique card designs in UB shit. All the good stuff that was concentrated in fewer sets are now spread over several different products, hence why I've been buying singles instead of sealed products, because the good stuff is now spread far in-between.
I care because I used to have fewer products with enough quality that warranted me to buy bigger purchases, now U buy smaller purchases and fewer ones because the good stuff has to be spread around over twice the product.
>What i do get is that you're triggered by wotc wasting cardboard, in which case roru rumao wotc needs a better class of haters
I'm not triggered, it's just a waste of everybody's time and money and stuffs the meta of the competitive formats like crazy. I USED to play standard and modern, but I don't anymore because there's so much shit being shoved into metas that keeping up is tiresome and more expensive.
YOU don't seem to get how the game development works because you think the game can just crank more and more cards and that's something that can happen forever when the product gets worse and worse.
You are defending the slop machine, good for you, I personally think that previously having 80% good stuff amongst the smaller pool of product is better than having 30% of good stuff spread over twice the amount of product.
Simple as that. In the same way you are asking why I care, I can ask you why you defend it on the same breath.

Hasbrews are already going through the top tier IP’s too fast like TMNT, Marvel,Avatar, LOTR, Jurassic Park, Trek, Godzilla, etc.
Soon they’ll move on to the B-tiers of Thundercats, G.I. Joe, DC Comics, Avatar(blue aliens), Alien(movies), Back To The Future
Then the shit really starts to stink. The C-tier dregs. Judge Dredd, Animaniacs, Goosebumps, Inspector Gadget, Rick and Morty, Smurfs, Family Guy, World of Warcraft, etc
It’s going to get really bad really fast before we even hit the 5 year mark

Holy retarded essay
Why does it matter if something you like appears in commander sets or whatever? Just be glad it appeared in the first place; you only buy what you like, right?
>i dont like wotc working on things i hate
I hate limited but do you see me crying over the 'wasted development time' wotc spends on draft chaff rather than (format i like) especially when people can just play cube instead? Ofc you dont, because unlike you i know that the world doesnt revolve around me and i'm wiser than crying over things i cant control
>I care because I used to have fewer products with enough quality that warranted me to buy bigger purchases, now U buy smaller purchases and fewer ones because the good stuff has to be spread around over twice the product.
>this triggers me even though i'm actually saving on money since i ostensibly say that i'm not a paypiggy and i only buy what i like
Lmao
>YOU don't seem to get how the game development works
Fewer sets didnt stop fallen empires, homelands, saviors of kamigawa, dragon's maze, born of the gods, battle for zendikar, etc
Bad sets will appear forever and you've done just fine in moving on from them, it's just your autism getting the better of you because UB bad? Lol
>previously having 80% good stuff amongst the smaller pool of product is better than having 30% of good stuff spread over twice the amount of product.
The previous 80% model makes you spend more compared to having 30% of good stuff spread over twice the product where you spend less in exchange for having more patience in waiting for the stuff you like, but since you prefer the old model (this is me even granting that you somehow like all the shitty stuff wotc has been putting out since rtr 2012 btw which is a retard admission in and of itself) what shows is that you want to buy for the sake of buying so in truth you're not someone 'who buys what he likes' but rather someone 'who will buy UW no matter how shit it is because it's wotc and not UB' KEK

Jamira and Kequia just get the least focus in the book. Obviously Eula is the most characterised, and Alandra and Segante sort of trade-off the secondary focus, but Jamira's characterisation is pretty much all in two chapters and it boils down to "I hate Planeswalkers and the interconnected Multiverse because my dad kept leaving me and the Invasion confirmed my bias". Kequia, meanwhile... I don't know what her character is beyond "is related to Teferi". She genuinely doesn't have a lot going for her besides being aware of more things than the rest of the cast.

Damage is marked during the damage step of combat. As a state-based action, any creature with lethal damage is destroyed. At the next round of priority, the earthbend abilities will trigger to return the lands (the controlling player can order these however they wish). Those will resolve during "combat" but after damage has been marked so it won't be relevant.

Need explanation to interaction i saw on stream
When player had Shark + Squirrel on field and would cast a spell, squirrel token would be created with same amount of counters as phyrexian incubator. why is that?
>>
>>
>>97892628
I suspect that it is because Chatterfang creates a replacement effect rather than creating the extra token itself.
Essentially it changes the text of Seedshark to:
"Whenever you cast a noncreature spell incubate X (create [an Incubator token plus a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token] with X +1/+1 counters on it)
I do not know whether this is intentional behavior since I cannot find anything under the comprehensive rules of Incubate that indicates whether or not additional tokens also get counters. If, for example, you had Doubling Season and created two Incubator tokens, I don't know whether or not both of them would get the counters.
>>
>>97892628
It's because Chatterfang's replacement effect just tacks on a 1/1 squirrel token to the rest of the effect, but incubate still goes "all the tokens I create get X +1/+1 counters" and it sees the squirrel as part of that.
>>
>>97892636
By comp rules, Incubate is:
>701.53a To incubate N, create an Incubator token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it. See rule 111.10i.
Ergo, any replacement effects would be included in the "enters with N counters" part because they're added on.

>The additional Squirrel tokens won't have any abilities the other tokens were created with. Anything else specified in the effect creating the token (such as tapped, attacking, "That token gains haste," or "Exile that token at end of combat") applies to both the original tokens and the Squirrels.
>To incubate N, create an Incubator token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it. See rule 111.10i.
"Anything else" includes entering with extra counters.
>>
>>
>>97892646
I see.
I understand why a replacement effect that replaces the Incubator token with a different token (ala Divine Visitation) would get the tokens but I did not know for sure that a replacement effect that kept the Incubator but added another token would give them both counters.
The replacement literally reading "Create an Incubator token and a green Squirrel token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it" doesn't make a huge amount of sense grammatically unless only the Squirrel gets the tokens (because of 'it' being singular) so my brain read the replacement effect as:
"Create an Incubator token that enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it and a green Squirrel" because that creates a proper English sentence.
I don't dispute the rules, I just think that they are somewhat unintuitive from a grammatical/syntactical sense.
when I checked the rules for Incubate I was hoping to find something like >>97892638
that said "put X +1/+1 counters on each token created this way".
>>
File: tdm-9-dragonback-lancer.jpg (142.9 KB)

>>97892664
Well, you just have to substitute in appropriate grammar for replacement effects. It's the same for an effect that gives a token haste or sacrifices it at end of combat. Pic-related with Chatterfang would create a soldier and a squirrel both tapped and attacking that are sac'd at end of turn despite the grammar of it. The effect being replaced is the token creation itself. As part of the incubate effect, counters are added to the token(s), and incubate doesn't care how many tokens it's actually creating. All effects that would be applied to the singular token normally by incubate or similar effects are applied to all additional replacement effect-created tokens.

I understand that now, in retrospect I should have been looking at the clarification/ruling for Chatterfang >>97892658 rather than the comp-rules for Incubate. I think it's card-specific rules rather than something that I could have looked up in either 'replacement effects' or 'token production'. I'm still getting used to understanding when I need to look at card-specific rulings vs comp.

>Demonic Tutor*
>Doom Blade
>Duress
>Ephemerate
>Growth Spiral
>Inquisition of Kozilek
>Lightning Bolt
>Opt
>Regrowth
>Swords to Plowshares
>Teferi's Protection*
>Tendrils of Agony
>Time Warp*
With asterisks indicating 'expensive' cards.
Doing the same with the new set:
>Armageddon*
>Brain Freeze
>Cyclonic Rift*
>Daze
>Flusterstorm*
>Force of Will*
>Preordain
>Spell Pierce
>Dismember
>Vampiric Tutor*
>Abrade
>Jeska's Will*
>Berserk
>Glimpse of Nature
>Veil of Summer*
>Expressive Iteration
Seems like more value and higher number of desirable cards. Did you just mean the art?

This new secret lair is genuinely shit isn't it? There are two cards worth anything. Defense of the heart is a fucking pony card and then there is this one. I liked Dwarf Fortress but not because of the ASCII artwork, in fact it was despite it. The Dwarf Fortress cards are the absolute laziest. Instead of using it as a theme and making cards to fit the game they just had someone get a few screenshots and slapped them on some reprints. I guess Hasbro are having an especially tough financial quarter and really need to pad out their numbers with lazy parachute sets like this.

Pretty sure they asked the artist, he came back with a full pantyshot, so they told him to tune it down and he ended up adding hotpants to the chick even though now it doesn't make sense at all why she's having both hot pants and a skirt on

Which of the 5 do you think is the strongest color combination for SOS Prereleases? The store I'm going to lets people pick their preferred one.
I'm unsure between Boros and Golgari myself, the commons/uncommons there seem best with the highest value and synergies.

yeah the DF cards in particular seem as bad as the Monster Hunter SLD in terms of card flavor and relevance to the source material. Secret Rendezvous' flavor has a dead vampire victim and Rune-Scarred Demon references the discovery of an ore vein, it's a complete fucking nonsequitur. I doubt they'll cancel this one though, Dorf Fort fans aren't as many or vocal as MonHun fans (if they're even upset about these)

In your opinion, which Magic Arena format is better, Standard, or Brawl?
>>
>>97893965
I recall that came up in EOE. It's revealed early on that humans aren't the norm in the Edge, the insect people are. They're the most numerous and widespread and are essentially the baseline for sapient life. And humans, unlike most species of the Edge, have next to no internal subdivisions amongst themselves in terms of morphologies or clades, only the separation of the sexes making for any meaningful biological specialization between the specimens. Other species look at that and think humans are so alike they all might as well be clones.

Just use the 100 card boxes. A lot of 100 card boxes are actually too small for 100 cards, at least for my double sleeved cards. The only use for 100 card boxes for me has actually been for my 60 card decks with token and sideboard.

The Demon works actually. Because adamantine, when you mine it, you open up Hell and the demons come for your shit, as the image shows a demon standing over a dead dwarf.
Secret Rendezvous is because vampires often tempt your dwarves to secret meetings that you're not made aware of.
Communal Brewing being a tavern instead of the actual brewery is a bit weak though.

Wasn't the backstory that the city itself was built when both demons and angels banded together to rebuild it after they pushed the phyrexians aways and the current demon dominated version of the city is only like that because the demons betrayed the angels and took over?
So, it would make sense that SOME order would be required, since the city was only first built when angels were around to keep it somewhat in order. Maybe the demons made it the massive metropolis it is today, but even that is somewhat considered a massive bloated opulent decadence, even within universe.
Also, I'm pretty sure at least one card references leaving town, so there must be other towns or city in the plane beyond New Capenna.

NTA but yeah, the rest of the plane outside the city didn't disappear, it's just become a wasteland. I think there are still vintage Phyrexians running around out there, since that's part of Elspeth's backstory.
>>
>>
>>
>>97900383
>>97900259
It's much more likely a return to Capenna would either have the angels as the de facto law enforcement already established, or as them trying to bring law to a lawless plane. A big issue with SNC as a set was that it was a 'crime plane' where there's no visible laws or any real governance outside of the criminals.

Reality Fracture will do more "characters in the wrong colours" as opposed to "fundamental things and tribes in the wrong colours" I feel. Or they'll make them predominantly in SORT of right colours, like demons in mono-red mostly.
>>
>>
>>
>>97900707
We've actually had surprisingly few evil religions in Magic. I guess the Cabal was sort of a cult, and Ixalan's vampires are... Well, they're schisming and one half of that schism is definitively evil because literal Vampire Jesus came back and told them to knock it off and they went "No, I like being a bloodsucking monster".
>>
>>97900686
I feel like it could be fun to think first in terms of mixing tribes and second in terms of the colorpie. Just playing scrabble with the types, like "Archon Spider", "Horror Human Bard" and "Angel Minotaur". Basically brainstorming with tribal prompts and see what the writers and artists come up with to fit the jumbled theme.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. They despise white people. They just keep printing black people as white cards. Maybe they actually worship demons and satan so making mono white demons would be a compliment in their eyes. Black angels are a fucking joke.

DF was a good game but ASCII artwork was not used as a stylistic choice. You had to use your imagination a lot. I don't hate ASCII or DF but when I think of a DF magic card I expect it to look how I imagined the game would look. Not some shitty low effort screenshots.

Are any or all of these real or fake? One I purchased online from a card shop (not something expensive relatively) but its corners are strange. The white bordered one.
The two black bordered ones are cards I opened but you can see for example the top left one has the kind of squared edges like the middle white border one, but the middle white border one (looks odd to me (the corner).
you can see all of those cards have different brightness/darkness of the backs too, I tried to have the light be somewhat neutral but there is a difference between all 3.
quite perplexing I'm honestly just wondering if the white bordered card is a fake but it seems like an unlikely card to waste faking

I found bracket 4 is the only playable bracket. everyone has good shit and you do too, and when someone plays broken/wild shit people are like "damn nice play!" instead of being crybaby faggots "you CANT DO THAT!!!!!"
b5 playing stupid combos/ solitaire instead of actually playing commander is just as gay as the bracket 2/3 crybabies

>Have to spend 2 boardwipes just to keep two players from winning turns 5 and 6 respectively (no one else even tried)
>Opponent #3 casts 4 eldrazi off suspend turn 7
>Mfw I drove out here to play against these "people"
Modern commander is so fucking boring. Part of the fun of commander was that it wasn't Magic, it was just a shitpile of cards you liked with some powerful synergies. With this kind of powerlevel I'd rather play pre-MH legacy, or at least Canadian Highlander.

Turtles in time turns easily 5 for 1 's against most decks. Theres no reason to have the exile effect clause. If i am at the point in the game where i am casting this spell a second time then i already won. I just like the idea of the deck being able to take infinite turns and this clause ruins it.
