I remember when these released and GW forced all their stores to ditch the homemade boards they'd acquired over the years and switch to that plain boring copy/paste rubbish. Literally nobody liked it, my local GW had some gorgeous boards that apparently just sat in the back for years rotting away afterwards.

Because they were horribly expensive even when they were selling them.
They constantly slipped around on teh table unless you had a mat under them.
You had to go outta your way to secutre them in something that had grip otherwise your models would slide down the hill sections
They fucking sucked ass to move and store.
Also at the time they retailed for like....i think 600+? I got mine in a store "garage sale" when the store manager basically did a bidding war thing on all the inventory that he was going to end up selling back.
He basically bought all of it himself with his GW discount which was 50% off, then startted the bidding at 50% value and then you paid that by basically buying gift cards for what ever it eventually auctioned up to niether here nor there.
Then when gaming mats came out, these things basically went obsolete.

They were like $250 you twat. I've played on these hundreds of times, as my LGS had three of them when I was in my teens and I have never had an issue with models "sliding," you're probably just retarded

Sorry they were like 300 USD retail, 600 is the resell price.
300 bucks back in 2000 went a lot further so thats why i forgot. BUT either way they were a bitch to play on.
The 40k one fucking was aweful to roll dice on, gutter dice all the time.
If you textured the board, it was fine, models did not slide, if you did not texture the board, they fucking slid up and own the board constantly on the hills.
The issue there is, most hobbiests were lazy and did not bother texturing it.

>Ontop of that, its a 6x4, which GW decided to move away from.
IIRC they stopped selling the Realm of Battle quite a long time before they decided to shrink the boards (which was 100% a bad idea, the game plays much better when units have room to manoeuvre and only the biggest of guns have the range to threaten the whole board).

It was right around the same time, i think they stopped producing them before they switched to what ever the fuck the table size is now, but they still sold them to try and shift the stock. I remember getting mine toward the end of 7th ed when 8th was either out or had a release date.I dont remember which.
>Range of weapons
Well thats just becuase the game has vastly outpaced the original board size, remember this was a game where the longest range weapons used to be the las canon, and the most you could get from a non vehicle or dread was 4 in a unit via a dev squad and that was expensive as fuck, and not very survivable.
The power creep of the game has gotten outta control.
