Magic the Gathering: No UB

ATTENTION JANNY:
This is a general for a version of Magic the Gathering that excludes 3rd party IPs, these cards are known as "Universes Beyond". This thread is not a duplicate of any other general, it is not a fork of any specific general. There is growing support for versions of Magic formats that exclude UB, for example Planar Standard. This general is the place for those discussions
This general is as legitimate as D&D Old School Renaissance threads and it exists for similar reasons.
If you deleted the previous thread because someone reported it, it is almost guaranteed that the guy who reported it is a faggot troll who spends hours of his days shitposting about UB to ragebait people in /edhg/.
Kindly leave us alone, thanks.

This is a thread for a discussion of Magic the Gathering where no set or release that required 3rd party IP licensing can be mentioned. That includes Universes Beyond and Secret Lair.

WARNING: There is a massive sperg from /edhg/ seething over the existence of threads he didn't personally make and it is highly likely that he is going to try to shit up these threads for a while.
Ignore him and one day he will kill himself.

The ONLY Magic sets this year:
>Lorwyn Eclipsed, January 23 2026
>Secrets of Strixhaven, April 24 2026
>Reality Fracture, October 2 2026

Thread Question:
What cards haven't seen a reprint in a long time that you think would be played more if they got reprinted?
I just discovered pic related and it would go hard in artifact decks

I don't know that it would see any play but I would like a newer print of this thing. Unflinching Courage or whatever doesn't hit the same.

the world needs more green hate pieces
>>
>>97901488
Would do well in Yenna decks in Commander. Honestly though that seems like such a typical effect for selesnya I'm amazed it hasn't been reprinted in a while

>>97901490
I don't know if that would be playable if it was reprinted.

Speaking of green hate though, I wish they'd reprint/print more colors matters cards. It's insane that color identity is the basis of this game, and plenty of cards say to do things to cards of specific colors, and yet the number of cards that dynamically change colors of shit are quite low
>>
Pic related is super versatile, hasn't seen a reprint in 20 years. I'd honestly rather see sets include more good reprints than constantly shitting out 4 versions of the same character just to hit the threshold for a full set
>>
>>97901542
no, we need to print the same slightly altered draft chaff as every other set because we only design for draft and commander and no set can be drafted with any other set FUCK YOU
>>
>>97901590
>we need to print the same slightly altered draft chaff
Waiter! Another red "draw and then discard" common, post haste!
To be fair, pic related is one of the better ones, but come on when they print every possible iteration of the text they're bound to make some that are worth playing
>>
>>97901462
This but for UB cards.
>>
>>97901643
>UB
Don’t think it, don’t say it.
We will have cleansed formats. Manifest that reality.
>>
>>97901542
Damn, that's some clean art, I like that a lot.

>>97901702
I will say it doesn't really look like she's stealing an aura, but other than that yeah pretty good

They should bring undying to Foundations 2 and reprint it at rare.
>>
>>97901750
What’s the significance of it being a centipede?
>>
>>97901755
I don't know man, I've just always wanted to make a bug deck work in standard for almost a decade, but I missed the one time they were actually playable because of the Pandemic.
>>
>>97901775
Join us in Commander. We have a bug waifu for you, live your libertarian dreams

I don't play commander anymore, format's too boring for me.

Depends on the pod, friend. Don’t write it off

>>97901488
I use this in some lifegain decks because it's double lifegain

What college are you soft-cocks picking for the pre-release this weekend? I think I'm going Quandrix.

There is zero need for this niche general to be spammed on the board. Nothing stops you from only talking about UW subjects on the arena, commander, or mtg generals. Non-UB is not an official format nor is it a format with any real following. Being angry at seeing subject matter you don't like in the other actually appropriate generals doesn't give you license to flood the board with your own personal safe spaces by creating extremely niche generals.
>>
>>97902323
Do you think this reaction is organic and justified or is that only when niggers and troons complain
>>
>>97902329
NTA, but what the fuck are you even trying to say?
>>
UB free is the first step
MH free is the next step
>>
>>97902323
Announcing a report, "anon?" Tsk tsk.
>>
>>97902472
Please quote any part of my post where I said that. Don't waste moderator's time with frivolous nonsense because your spammed thread is getting called out.
>>
>non-UB

What school are you niggas hoping to build at Strixhaven prerelease? I personally think Prismari has a lot of broken stuff going for it.
>>
I think the implication is that the broach thing is enchanted. Pre-Equipment, and even a little bit after like with Shadowmoor's god-weapon cycle, Enchant Creatures were used to represent gear.
>>
>>97902388
>Being angry at seeing subject matter you don't like
This part specifically.
>>
If you want to see normal things then tough titties, but if you want to see niggers and trannies then they will cater to you. It doesn’t matter if a disproportionate amount of people want normal things.
This is why there’s organic reactions opposing these things, instead of inorganic reactions to normal things (Aragorn is too white, Terese is bad, Gypsies might get offended, etc etc)
>>
Most people like white Aragorn. Most people like Terese. Most people don’t care if you depict Gypsies or Shamans. But they don’t cater to most people. That’s what inclusivity means

In the spirit of inclusivity, these threads cater to those of us opposed to UB. Seethe and dilate, UB tranny

>I don't know if that would be playable if it was reprinted.
nta but it's one of those pieces that go under the radar. I feel it's definitely playable, especially if you play burn already. my friend has it in a deck that plays a lot of those "destroy nonbasic and put a basic on th field" effects
>>
>>97902492
I’ve really been liking the izzet big mana they’ve been designing around, it’s so much more interesting than storm.
Since my colors are usually dimir or azorius and neither is a wizard school apparently, I’m feeling izzet

Way to out yourself, shitpost-kun.
I have genuine advice for you, it is unbelievably unhealthy to get upset about not being able to control what other people post on 4chan. Leave the site, seek diagnosis for your illnesses. I’m 100% serious.
>>
>>97902456
it's still kinda crazy how MH brainwashed so many players to accept it as a part of the format when it was originally supposed to have only core sets and expansions. meaning a whole block that was standard legal and no supplemental sets or promos
>>
>>97902749
Realistically without MH do you think powercrept would happen in some other form?
>>
>>97902761
Powercreep happens all the time, it's not like standard cards haven't made themselves into eternal formats or anything (Stock Up, Cori Steel, Diddler) or even warped/got banned on some.
The point is that older formats should suffer less from powercreep since they are more established. But MH is not a powercreep, it's a power leap. Every MH has more or less warped eternal formats around themselves. Old decks die out while new wholesale MH stuff (like energy or flicker) just leap to the top of the format.
The problem with the game is that you can't count on WotC to make a standard set without a few powercreeps, and you can't expect them to make an eternal-powered set without a few power leaps.
>>
>>97902767
I don't disagree but I do question if it's avoidable. How does WotC sell to eternal formats without making new cards better than old cards?
>>
>>97902761
yes but more slowly because if wotc released a set in standard that made modern stop adopting cards from future sets it would also make standard a disaster. that would never happen, right haha
>>
>>97902774
There's none; if the goal is to make money then WotC is already doing a spectacular job, at the expense of their own product.
The altern

complexity creep. make cards read like ygo to keep interest without just buffing shit. this however is harder to do than just put bigger numbers and lessen costs so it's less likely

Good morning kangz.

Color swapped Planeswalkers
>>
>>97902971
what were they thinking?
>>
>>97902965
The good version of Strixhaven with the cool color pairs.
>>
>>97902774
It's so simple, literally just go back making masters sets but without the retarded premium price point and stuff that shit to the gills with banger reprints and staples. Pad with other cards printed at least once before to make a cohesive higher powered draft environment. As a bonus this sort of thing will inevitably have some cards commander players want too. The cost is literally the biggest thing stopping people from playing and a set like this would make it much easier for established players to buy into a second/third ect. deck without breaking their balls.

Prismari, i mainly play grixis piles so plenty of gold card overlap there. Plus I love casting PHAT spells

I’m not at keys so I don’t hav the image to post, but it was in the last thread >>97889190

Basically Jace has gone crazy and tried to rewrite time. We know this leak is basically confirmed because we’ve got mono black Ral in Strixhaven
>>
>>97903075
bold of you to assume jotc wants players and not collectors outside arena
