I feel a child should have a model train set in their lives. I've discovered I have a child (5.5 years ago relax). And I feel my unit should have the (((normal))) experience.
So she gets a train set.
Now, the thing is I know shitfuck all about trains or any of this. I bought a control/transformer for $70, the track to power piece with included bed (I'm going nickel plate bed included). I bought a fat box of terrain textures. I have elmer's glue-all. I can use many tools without medical intervention.
My theme is 1869 Oakland Terminus and east, on a 4x4. I can at least make a circle and a little, that's fine.
This is where my brain stops. Now what?
I offer this fucked up old time contraption picture in payment.

So /toy/ isn't about like finding an old A-Team van and like reapplying the decals from another trashed model, or like sourcing railroad scene parts?
What's it supposed to be about, just buy it in a box and never let light touch it again?
J...jesus. Jesus Christ.

>how do I use styrofoam to make a hill?
Foam cutter.
We do occasionally have a Model Railway general thread here, but it's pretty quiet.
You are better off looking on YouTube or on a model railway website like the NMRA, or any of the major manufacturers.
This video guide is by Hornby.

Try watching/reading a few different instructional and pick one that will work for what you want.

There are only a couple dozen people active on this board. It's not that you're in the wrong place, there just aren't a whole lot of people here. Your odds of finding someone with helpful insight for this particular niche is lower than it would be on a reddit for people who build toy railroads.

Hey Fren get her this Lego set
https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/explorers-arctic-polar-express-trai n-60470
I got it for my nephews it's super cool avalanche play feature with the mountain tunnel, zip line, little wolf figures in a cave and scientists / science themed its so awesome.
Sucks how expensive Lego is but for a model train set this is actually a decent price with cool extras

Well you're either here to generate content or ask a question. I do more of the former on /k/. Except just now I'm banned because someone said I had a small dick and that shit ain't gonna pass. I even sharpied a timestamp with my one of a kind Vostok watch wrapped around it but...
rules.
I am not like... a reddit kinda person. I guess I am now though (ugghhhhhh I blame ye).
We have LEGO. I grew up with them (pirate ship, NASA shuttle, Auto garage, just pre-Bionicle Era). I want to lean into the modeling of the terrain here.
I'm old, not well civilized, shit talked on Usenet. 4chan is the last place I can just randomly call you a faggot... not that I would you all seem very nice and we can be caucasian together. Even if we aren't that's ok it's just a theme.

Hey guys, OP here. Since reddit sucks cocks and deleted my post because I didn't label it in progress or something.
Otherwise great advice.
So the "whatever" child romp and project room in the half finished basement has a table now.
Since I've never done this I'm going to see if two hits of acid help.
I have a lot of elmers so fuck the world.

Fuck I hate Reddit faggots. I don't know why anons recommended that shithole. For the record, I'm the anon that said look at shit on YouTube or websites like the NRMA because I could tell you were going to run afoul of Plebbit's ridiculous hoops you need to jump through just so an overzealous faggot doesn't delete your post.
I haven't done any model train shit in years, but I'll try to answer any questions you have or link to YouTube guides. Hopefully the handful of regulars from the Model Railway general thread either pop their heads in.
Just a heads up, all threads on this board autosage after two weeks because of some retarded bullshit caused by retarded trolls, so you will need to start another thread in a few weeks. Maybe one of the /mrg/ regulars will start a new general thread before then.
>Since I've never done this I'm going to see if two hits of acid help.
I tried to build Lego on acid once, and I couldn't do shit.

There's a diorama subreddit that will be happy to help you. That said, to be fair, there is a custom general and they will help.

In exchange for non-cut deadhead level purity, I am happy to provide insulation foam at my shipping expense plus my BFA's worth of knowledge. I mean, I have shit in university collection and museums. I just have shitty connections where I live and only want to trip balls like twice a year, maybe few more if I visit my friends back east, for next few years.

You need to combine. I candy flip.
X and acid, good music, a pot and chilled whiskey with lemonade break, I painted two large canvas pieces as tall as doors in 14 hours straight (3-4 45 minute pot and whiskey breaks thrown in) and then spent another week doing minor touch ups and redid one section (probably another 6 hours over 6 days).

NTA but my friends and I would drop acid and generally do something creative part of the time even if it was play with the neighbors kittens by constructing an obstacle course and trying to get them to attempt it. The photos look like we made a mess and the kittens seemed to enjoy the attention but no one was trained before we fell asleep.
