Creator dragonanonhere, I want to ask you guys, which do you prefer: brick-built or moulded animals? Personally, I lean more towards the brick-built as they have made amazing strides in the past 15-20 years, my personal favorite being this dragon. I will not deny the classic designs still have a timeless appeal/aesthetic, but if given a choice, I would rather the mosasaurus composed of bricks.

You’re not an automaton. You don’t need to comment “pedo” on every picture of a new set or “leak.” See if you can limit yourself to just two or three “pedo”s this thread and next, and maybe in a week or two, you’ll have kicked the habit altogether.

I am a huge proponent of brick built creatures, but specifically in creator style without printed pieces except for maybe 1x1 eye tiles (though I love the 4l translucent bar eye technique they've used multiple times now) and not ugly, overgreebled messes like the giraffe or the fox. Fuck that rock/fur wedge piece.
I wish the dragon had more interesting colors, that was the one thing really preventing me from buying it. I think it's my main problem with most creature sets too. The colors just aren't very inspired. Grey shark, green/red dinosaurs, green/red dragon. And not even interesting tones of those.

That's tough, I love molded animals with debossed eyes, but I prefer dragons and dinos to have articulation but absolutely hate mixing brick built and pre-molded animals. The 2001 dinos are a good middleground for me though

I prefer molds but that's with the caveat that that they actually look like they visually belong alongside lego pieces and minifigures. It's amazing Dinosaurs peacked with Dino Island. They should be limited in terms of visual flair and articulation and should be blocky.

If you look in the last thread, a good number of people seemed to be commenting on the dino sets or One Piece or whatever else. And some of the liveliest discussions in recent memory surrounded the leaks of those atrocious soccer sets. I genuinely don’t know why it would come as a surprise to you, but it seems people might be interested in talking about upcoming Lego sets in a Lego thread. This, to me, seems incredibly intuitive.

These posts contain a range of opinions and seem overwhelmingly negatively valanced in their appraisals of the new sets and new dinos. But you’re alleging what exactly? That the posted “leaks” and all the negative comments on those leaks stem from one man? And, further, that one man is a paid shill?

No, my writing has always been this autistic (and I’ve always made liberal use of the em dash).
Anyway, is the retarded scenario laid out above what you actually believe? That a paid shill is juicing his own shill posts with comments like, “I’m not paying 200 euros for this” or “that is fucking awful”?

And you think part of shilling a product would entail posting, about that product, comments like, “this looks like shit,” “I miss the old dinosaurs,” “this shit is way too expensive,” etc.? The squeaky clean Lego Company is drumming up that sort of negative sentiment about their products, and they’re doing it specifically in a venue where, say, complaints about miscegenation or trooning the kids are commonplace?

It's amazing how far ahead the old lego games were. Literally the perfect mix of the source material and lego instead of having shit that looks like they sawed off an action figure head and put it on a minifigure body or shit that looks worse than a mould.
>>
>>11755201
Mosasaurus is the only "good" set but it's overpriced and the boat and heli are kind of ruined by spamming weird colours like reddish orange instead of just using orange. Half those pieces are useless if you wanted to part the set out for a moc which sucks because those window pieces are really cool and could be great for power miners mocs if you got them in regular orange.

That and the fact we never got some of the animals in them, even with some of the generic animals like lions in the original lego batman getting a proper stylised mold but never getting adapted or even really ripped, if we’re being real picrel is one of the most complex figs from the general complete saga that is still in style, an utter shame what happened 2009 onwards with stuff like the tauntaun being signs of the beginning of the end

NTA but it's impossible to argue with a conspiracy theory, every solution circles right back to

the fact that it's impossible to prove, proves it.
the only solution is to not play the game (but... that's what they want! AHH!!!!! lol)

Most recent pick ups /lg/?
Got some CMF 29, got the monster hunter and garbage monster for myself and a tahu for my brother. My complete copy of 6066 Camoflaged Outpost came in today, really happy to finally own their origin set as a forestmen fan. I really wish lego would go back to these plate based builds that could be flipped open, feel like this style of design is a perfect balance of being a good playset and display piece. Would love to have a complete 6071 Forestmen's Crossing to display alongside it as I see them aa almost sibling sets but the current prices are just crazy. I got my 6066 for $200, I think 6071 complete is like double that. Might splurge on it someday withput the box but even that might be $300.

Whether any shilling is being done for free or actually working for Lego is irrelevant. What I hate is how artificially bland it is, typing stuff like
>OMG NEW SET, it is hyping isn't it?
If you really are a Lego employee, you are doing a terrible job If you'd instead post something like
>Zoey in skintight leather
>after all that jumping around
>further warmed by the engines being almost in contact with her sweating skin
imagine the smell
You'd have thousands more aroused to buy it. Know your audience man.

I think the Taco stand just looks to similar to me. Also, the chopsticks holding the piece of nigiri is implemented more cleverly. Also, the taco stand somehow simultaneously looks busier yet less interesting than the sushi stand.

Nigga, 2009 was 3 years before the Disney buyout and it was already going to shit, just Disney hastened its enshittification. 2007 as >>11755709 states was likely our last chance for >>11755661 to have been possible, but Clone Wars sets started a plauge of weird abomination shit along with being a curse of some characters only appearances in that style instead of benefiting from a 2006 wave of prequel stuff that could have been, real shame all in all with us never being able to get an official Tall Minifigure Head Mundi instead of the gross shit we got, closest to a generic jedi was bob and look at how that turned out for aftermarket prices (along with those spare generic jedi that would have been a great battlepack if they ever did one but alas), 2004 and its consequences
>>
>>11755711
Its so unfortunate that Lego will never break free of licensed themes, especially not ones owned by Disney. Lego has its own space factions, planets, and alien races and they'll do nothing with them, tragic.

Yea that guy looks way better than the official one which actually looks bizarre, why is his head so tiny? Also I wish they made trans-purple 1x1 cylinders, I was trying to get some for a moc recently but bizarrely they don't make those... That bar piece he has that the cylinders are connected too from the game looks super useful as well and way better than the official one using that umbrella stand piece.

It would be nice. But less profitable and GWPs are not really free, you already paid for them probably ten times over considering most of them are shit like spend over $140 to get, with Lego's already inflated prices. Maybe they could make some extra money by making them available to buy but keeping them super time limited but that would still suck.
>>
File: 40891-1.original.png (2.1 MB)
2.1 MB PNG
>>11755819
the GWP puzzle is complicated
making them unique is obviously a FOMO tactic (evil) that freaking-works. panic-level can't miss out on it (!) and Lego gets away with less production on those sets, so it's a guaranteed sell-out (y'know... they get rid of 'em all)
but...
-evil optics (they look like manipulative a-holes)
-could flip into LESS sales, as customers who missed-out on the GWP no longer want the $500+ set now due to resentment
but I'm pretty sure Lego learned that last lesson, and now over-produces the GWPs. I went into the The Lego Store last week and still had GWPs for the Hobbits, the Goonies, Stranger Things, Star Trek, maybe others (?) all GWPs still available (they wouldn't sell them alone, only free with the matching sets)
so now they only have to deal with looking bad. and they should be fine with that as long as the money keeps going

Who was in charge of making these sets?
I can't believe how awful they are fumbling the choices.
that castle is Dr. Kureha's home. she lives in it. yet Lego put her minifig in the other set? WHAT?!
and they continue the insane Luffy-hat/no-hat garbage. put all 3 pieces in the sets, you greedy [expletive deleted] hair, hat, hair-with-hat. he's the main freaking guy don't try and sell Darth Vader without a lightsaber. it's one more piece argh.
One Piece continues to be the worst "designed" series Lego has ever done. I can't even think of anything that comes close. Maybe the Scooby Doo spread of characters was spotty, but this is a whole 'nother level

Technically it's Wapol's Castle, also Lego wants you to buy more than one set so of course they will spread some minifigs in other sets... also I see everyone else call One Piece the best licensed theme ever made so that's just you buddy. See you next year discussing the Battle for Alabasta sets...

>One Piece the best licensed theme ever made
I loved the show, it's amazing in every way, and I'm excited there are Lego sets for it.
I also feel the same way about Star Trek
but I have not bought a single set for either thing from Lego. so that's Lego's failure. it's not up to me to "slopiity-slop-slurp". the sets have to be things I want at prices I can afford, and Lego is doing neither. Lego has to chase MY dollars. I'm not going to let them rob me because it's my only option.

exactly. Lego is in the position where they can demand outrageous things from their customers. I wonder how long it will keep up. imagine McDonald's priced the Big Mac at $50 each, and people still ate them. All I want is a tasty sandwich argh! how does Lego get away with it?
even if I was rich, I don't think it's wise to spend $400 to get a Star Trek set, my only option. I don't blame Lego for doing it. I get it. it still sucks though, that "society" lets them do it
>>
>>11755950
>>11755954
They actually belonged to an older woman who was selling off her older collection, she said she had a son who has a bunch of Star Wars Lego. The sets are all incomplete and she didn't want to go to the trouble of sorting/building them, she just kept handing me more incomplete town sets for free. That's why there's a bunch of printed parts lists in the bags.
I haven't noticed any bootleg parts.

I had the most fun I've had with Lego in a long time, last summer when I explored my collection to cobble together budget Star Trek crews.
oddly, the inability to spend the money on Lego's "real" Trek set, made me use Lego as it was meant, to create my own things. I had the pieces inside me all along (silly metaphor lol)

How the fuck did we reach a point where literally any CMF fig is over $10? Obviously some are highly sought after but this isn't like like a Cloud City Boba Fett situation where it was a limited release, this is a modern line with millions of every minifig produced in all regions yet some like the tournament knight, forest maiden, and rogue are like $30 on bricklink at the cheapest.

Got some sudden inspiration and ended up spending the past day trying to solve the issue of pretty much all 8w/9w/10w trains being under-powered off of PF-M motors powering a single bogey by creating this monstrosity.
Single or double PF-L motors with an automatic gearbox that fits perfectly inside a 4w interior space. I wanted this specifically because I did some measurements and decided on 10w/1:36/1 stud=1 foot scale for making a train. I'm not sure this would fit in anything smaller than an 8W since 1:36 scale American or British loading gauge at 1 stud/1 foot scale seems to give you the most space for this. I supposed if you had a cab or cowl unit locomotive you could fit the XL motors in instead but I'm not sure it would be the best tradeoff.
Part of me wants to use the double PF-L setup to drive D-D bogeys and make a replica of the UP DDA40X because of how stupidly high the torque would be

Molded a million times over, holy shit. It's not close to being close. Brickmade ones look like absolute utter shit. Living things should ALWAYS be molded while artificial things like houses and cars should be square and blocky with exposed studs. Doing it the opposite way is number one reason why I hate nu-Lego.

Serious question, isn't OP about pirates so why do people dresslike this or wear shit like hoodies and other modern clothing? I know it's fantasy and not at all historical but seems weird to make a story about pirates but have characters with little to no nautical themes.

>Serious question, isn't OP about pirates so why do people dresslike this or wear shit like hoodies and other modern clothing?
The short answer is that, as you have already noticed, One Piece is more science fantasy with pirate theming rather than a pure swashbuckler.
The longer answer is that the One Piece universe takes place in a world with technology that seems to hover around the early 20th century, with some advanced tech here and there, however the architecture and fashion are more modern and/or fantastical than you would expect at first glance.
There is an in-universe reason for this, sort of, but it's very complicated to explain and touches on some enormous spoilers, so I'll only explain if you genuinely care enough to know.

Also one other thing, there are actually quite a lot of stereotypical pirate things, but it does vary from story arc to story arc, and also crew to crew.
For example, one of the main overarching villains of the entire story, Blackbeard, is named after the most famous pirate in real history and his design reflects this (see pic). The rest of the captains in his fleet also have suitably stereotypical pirate designs to match.
By contrast, some crews, like the Strawhat Pirates (Luffy and his friends), are more of a hodgepodge.

I just really don't get people who try to make full factions from a single figure. Look at the tournament knight, I would love one or two to have as a background character for my mocs but I see all these afol castlefags army building them off of this one torso and shield design. Same thing for the frightening knight, would love to have him and especially his morning star but $20-30 is too much to me. Most recent example seems to be the kracken knights from the gumball machine, I think those guys at least are available via PAB so maybe not as bad.

Nice, there's at least way more to work with from their dark green color scheme compared to the orange yellow of the tournament knight. I can't fault people for wanting to make small bands of them, just crazy to me how minifigs that had millions made across all regions reach such absurd prices.

I remember in the early series it felt like picks were arbitrary in terms of numbers but doing that for what they were well aware was going to be highly sought after minifig is so shitty. I initially tapped out around 2011 or 2012 and seeing just how much they've fallen is depressing, it would be one thing if it was just incompetence but every shitty move feels so obviously calculated that it's hard to want to support them.

I needed a scene with figures from the 6103 set. And somehow a quick idea dawned in my head to create a small MOC, in which I would try to place the minifigs, in preconceived positions. I based the scene on a 32×32 base plate and for the construction I used ready-made trees in two sizes and different shades (from those from the 80s to today), a lot of plates and slopes of various sizes, including a lot of dots, ready-made deciduous and other plant elements, and ready-made rock walls. Everything in green and brown and tan – all in several shades. A little black small food and a minimal amount of trans light blue as a puddle of water.

In a few words, the whole thing looks like this: three brave knights have captured the helper of the forest people – local outlaws, taken away his pitchfork (with which he could have attacked them) and lead him to the police station, somewhere behind the forest. The road leads through a narrow, dilapidated, rocky path, in a slight depression. On both sides of the tree. Conifers of various sizes, two larger trees with thick trunks and some low-stemmed vegetation.

Predictions for 2027 sets or themes?
Mine:
>Man of Tomorrow will get one set, probably Brainiac's ship. We will also get at least one or two Superman 2025 sets. I would say a Superman Fortress playset and a Mr. T craft. And a Supergirl vs Lobo bike set for $10. That would make around four Superman sets.
>The Batman Part 2 will probably get three sets. These movies are not as toyetic as Gunn Superman, and we already got a Pattinson Batmobile this year. I am curious if he gets a new one in the movie.
>At least two Shrek 5 sets were planned before the delay to 2027, so I think they will still release that year. Maybe we get more Shrek sets based on previous films. At least one of them is the swamp home.
>Legend of Zelda movie sets, at least five sets.
>Lord of the Rings The Hunt for Gollum themed line will get around four sets, and a fifth one could be a buildable Gollum. We could also get 18 plus sets of Rohan and maybe a Witch King battle diorama.
>Harry Potter HBO show sets in January 2027, with more in summer. Later waves will focus more on later story content instead of the early ones, since HBO is adapting the first books right now.
>At least one or two Simpsons sets.
>Pirates of the Caribbean Flying Dutchman set.
>Another Star Trek set.
>A new original Lego theme.
>Dragon Ball Z gets more sets.
>One Piece Battle of Alabasta sets.
>Avengers Secret Wars sets.
>Star Wars Starfighter movie sets.
>More Nasa Artemis sets under City and Space sets.
And that is it I think. Maybe we get some TMNT sets, and perhaps another Avatar The Last Airbender set, since I am sure we are getting Appa this summer under Icons.

Except that’s wrong. Other toy brands can do it just fine. Lego does it well too. All the time. There also is a huge gap in the playset market. You know. For kids and poorfags. Lego could make more money off them. If this was the first run of LOTR where there were a bunch of playsets I would probably see your point (but still disagree) but the 15-90 dollar playsets or a small battle pack isn’t going to step on the toes of the 500 dollar LOTR dust collectors.
>Harry Potter
I keep reading this posted on /lg/ specifically. I couldn’t disagree more. I’d go so far as to say the majority of Lego castle fans don’t care about Harry Potter which is set in the 90s with cars and trains and suburban homes. Even if there was, why is it similar licenses can exist alongside each other? Why can One Piece exist next to POTC and Jaws? Why Why LOTR and Harry Potter (as you claim)? Why Star Trek and Star Wars and why City Space? Why Peppa and Bluey and Animal Crossing? It’s because they have fanbases. The fanbases buy the product. All you need is fans. And castle has plenty of them. The same could be applied to other themes they refuse to resurrect

the theme is "designed" to require you purchase it ALL to be satisfied, not a single set leaves you with a complete feeling. each set is carefully chosen to require part of another set, even if it's simply Luffy WEARING the freaking hat, that's in another set, didn't you get that? you should.
take the set with the giants. it includes the girl with the paint pallet but not Luffy with the paint on his face. fail! no binocular piece to suggest Smoker's dual cigars? (maybe I can forgive that one, with the kids and all) doctor lady who lives in the castle, which they have a set for, is in a different set?! it's so frustrating
>>
>>
>>11756966
Is that not really all IP based sets though? I agree I just don't think it's a OP issue. Thst said they have definitely become more devious over the years in terms of incentives. OP doing the random posters or not making the luffy hat mold available in a cheap set is some of the lowest from lego yet.
>>
>>
>>11756922
As boring as the live action series, that tries too hard to be accurate to the source. Imagine LEGO put as much effort into One Piece as with Monkie Kid. Imagine how cool and unique these sets could have been. This is just yet another theme based on [insert current tv series here]

Scooby Doo did Velma in only 1 expensive set, so you needed to get that one in order to complete the gang
but statistically speaking, Velma would be the least desirable figure (jinkies! sorry Velma!) where as One Piece puts Mihawk and Miss All Sunday, the MOST desirable figures, in the expensive sets, instead...
>>

I definitely wanna get the marine ship and hiriluk's house (for chopper) and I'm kinda interested in drum castle and the smoker set. I don't really care about the brickbuilt chopper and giants though.

It is weird that they didn't do a whiskey peak set and that they did the unluckies in little garden set so we didn't get mr 5 or miss valentines, I wonder why?

Are you insane? Nerd lust for Velma has only grown over the years, she is by far the most popular human character of the main cast nowadays.
>>
>>11756983
The mihawk thing still kinda pisses me off, but at least they did do the whole crew in the going merry set. And yeah they locked miss all sunday/garp/tashigi in the most expensive set, but it's almost half the price of (and a much better set than) baratie.
Plus we'll definitely be getting more sets with all sunday in the next wave since she'll be in season 3 way more than she was in 2.

fair point.
but that was only after they cast the adorable-hot babe in the live-action movies, and after that, people looked at the character differently.
statistically speaking, from the old cartoon, and from a boys-buying-toys angle, it's all about Shaggy and Scoob.

You can recognize the importance of IPs while also recognizing that they've been a huge problem that hasw actively contributed to Lego as a company and its sets losing their whole design philosophy. There is a middle ground to be had. We saw this in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Yeah, down to the weird recolors.
I also find weird how Aang's robe is so flatly printed. It's almost like some 70s or 80s torsos, but looking at 90s town or some if the first Star Wars (even at they simplest there's an attempt to simulate the baginess and wrinkes of robes), they really fall flat.

Nice shelfwarmer. Is the Mandolorian even still big with normalfags? I get that when season 1 dropped and the baby yoda phase hit this shit was making huge money but I haven't seen hype for the show or upcoming film from anywhere. Blows my mind how badly disney fucked up the MCU plan with all shows and films, wonder if they'll just sit on the IP milking EP1-6 merch or keep pushing for it to work.

Designers probably had little to no time to design the sets and minifigs, even as a kid that loved the show I remember taking apart the air temple to use the baseplate for mocs pretty quickly after getting it.

I'm just dumbfounded how they stay in business with these prices. Even the most desperate collectors are not going to pay as much as like five times the value of a minifig. And even if you sell one or two somehow that's not even enough to pay rent, who is funding these stores at what I have to assume is a major loss?
>>
>>11757127
>>11757130
They stay in business because they're not making most their money on the minifigs but the bricks. The bricks they sell in those bulk tables are probably their biggest profit margins and given how fucking expensive new sets are kids and adults are fine paying the prices for the used bricks to help build whatever project they're working on because finding used bricks online can be a fucking pain in the ass and requires shipping costs.

there was a local TCG shop which was huge with like 30 gaming tables, rows and rows of Warhammer figs, tons of board games, kites, puzzles, all kinds of hobby stuff.
owner dude was in the back room selling Pokemon cards all day long, eventually the place just closed. I assumed he just figured he could do the Pokemon card thing from home and why waste money funding the "front"
it's like the donut shop at the mall. you see they sell donuts, at a price, and you try and do the math in your head... and they need to sell 20 donuts every hour?? is that right? no way! that's impossible! how is there a donut place a the mall???

Many stores I've seen sort of have become multi-facet hobby/specialty stores. Most of the comic shops near me now sell comics, manga, statues, figures, TCG packs, boxes, and supplies, tabletop gaming supplies, etc. They also have TCG tournaments throughout the week (mostly Pokemon, Magic, and Yu-Gi-Oh). Kind of like they're making a little bit from every angle.
I have several Bricks and Minifigs in my area, but I have only been in the one closest to me. Some of their prices are outrageous, but I've also scored some pretty decent deals. My understanding is that prices can vary wildly from location to location, but I have heard that selling the actual sets and minifigures don't make them all that much money, just host events and parties for kids, and other building events where they make money.

the big reason why the last traditional castle theme did poorly was because it was the most uninspired attempt in years
it was good lion knights, again, against the evil black and red faction, again
the sets were also very basic and a big step down from kingdoms, which was the previous castle theme

Couldn't agree more.
I don't know how popular of an opinion this is but even as a zoomer I think ever since the 2000s the only truly great castle themes have been the dwarves and trolls subthemes from fantasy era. So many modern era castle themes feel so juniorized with their color schemes and over simplistic builds. 80s and early 90s castle themes look so aesthetically nice because they knew how to balance accent colors like red/blue/yellow/green with the mostly blacks and grays of the main structures. I feel like in the mid 90s with dragon masters builds got a littld goofy but Knights Kingdom II is where I really feel like castle was too juniorized for me to want to collect after getting into the hobby.
>>
>>
>>11757217
>>11757222
The reason why the old themes were good was because Lego seems to have lost the point of Castle. Castle isn't supposed to just be "a castle." Old castle in the 80s and 90s had all sorts of strongholds and towers, and hidden spires in forest areas, and even stuff like structures that looked like they were abandoned and taken over by another faction later on.
I always thought the big, terrained base places used in the 80s and 90s sucked for space, but worked really well for Castle and Pirates because it created that natural elevation and had high points and draw bridges and moats and stuff that made sense. Modern castles from Lego feel uninspired and pretty juvenile.
There have been three or four sets out of the BDP that have been pretty good, but not much directly from Lego.

They still had them, but tbey look so cobbled together that they look terrible for display purposes. I get it, legos are to play with, but older sets feel like they do both with zero issues.
Look at this "stronghold", it's pathetic. Old castle has tents and turrents that feel more meaningfully designed then this.

I do visit my local one occasionally, I rarely buy sets there unless it’s one that I really want, they had a bunch of small ice planet and black tron sets that I regret not getting. But I always get bricks from the bulk tables. It’s the best way to get the brick you want, and you get to chat up with other autists and their mocs, plus the cups and bags you get are good for organizing

Lego already did a set with unicorns and pegasus that matched the Hasbro characters perfectly.
so technically they already got a set.
it will be fun to watch [that guy] post the "leak" pics and watch [that other guy] have a meltdown over it. but muh-relevance, but muh-rules. should be entertaining
as for the actual set, Lego has already done plenty of giant [thing] sculptures, that's exactly what to expect ($600, six character display piece) yawn.

>The LEGO Group has accused competing brick-building toy manufacturers of orchestrating a coordinated campaign to undermine its reputation, according to a statement released Friday by the company’s legal team.
>In the announcement, LEGO said it has gathered what it describes as “substantial evidence” indicating that rival companies in the construction toy sector have worked together to spread negative claims about LEGO’s pricing and product quality. The alleged campaign reportedly took place across social media platforms, online forums, and e-commerce marketplaces.
>The company claims that these efforts were designed to portray LEGO products as overpriced and inconsistent in quality—assertions LEGO strongly denies.
>“These claims are not only inaccurate, but appear to be part of a deliberate and organized attempt to mislead consumers,” the company said in its statement. “Our products are subject to strict quality control standards, and we stand firmly behind their safety, durability, and value.”
>While LEGO did not publicly name the companies involved, it characterized them as “competitors within the global brick-building toy industry,” some of which have gained traction in recent years by offering lower-cost alternatives to LEGO sets.
>Industry analysts say the construction toy market has become increasingly competitive, with emerging brands challenging LEGO’s long-standing dominance. However, experts note that direct allegations of coordinated disinformation campaigns between competitors are rare and could signal a significant escalation in industry tensions.
>LEGO’s legal team stated that it is actively investigating the matter and considering potential legal action against those responsible. The company also indicated it may pursue claims related to unfair competition and reputational harm.
