Women just see them as dolls and see why the collector is the virgin. Its sort of a feed back loop. Like look at most of that stuff. It looks like little kid toys and girl doll versions of Universal monsters. Like I can appreciate that but women just see an immature guy with issues. Youre really better off not having a collection until after your heavily committed to someone. They can be there to support you and tell you not to buy ugly dolls from the 80s. I feel liek he should have leaned into the bust aspect of his interst more. The creature bust at the top looks immaculate. You could realistically make that work in a home theater. Home theaters are also cool and women like them.
>>
>>11798981
Nta but he means you *have* money. Someone with big spending habits is either flush or a "bachelor".
>>
>>11798973
It's because the makers of 40YOV would never be into the type of chick who's a collector herself. In the movie we see lots of female archetypes but notably missing is the nerd freak type (maybe the girl in the flashback but that's just going off her hardware). Because they would never see one of those girls as desirable, the movie ignores their very real place in the virginal collector nerd ecosystem.
>>
>>11798981
Women often times find status more attractive than looks. Status can mean several things but it often times translates into money. A common female tactic is to shame others by calling them virgins/losers. Females use shame as a weapon on eachother all the time since they tend to operate by hivemind rules hence why they try to use it on men as well. All that money spent on toys could've been used on her or a home for her and her potential spawn, hence the negative stigma. At least thats my take on it. Though to be fair I'm not sure how many actual Chads are in this hobby to begin with and toys collecting is often a nerdy hobby. Also there are women who collect toys and model kits so not all of them are like that. Personally I've met two girls that thought my gundam model kit was cool :)

Because toys are mostly for kids, and being into things that kids are into is usually an indicator of stunted development and/or some sort of disorder/neurodivergence

are all guys who are into sports exempt from this universal rule about things for kids representing an adult disorder?
what about video games?

no, that doesn't track either. nice try.

M-maybe both! Umm...I-I guess... ( ;°-°)
The first was the girl at the counter who rang me up. She told me the picture on the gundam Calibarn box looked cool and after a small talk I told her she should watch the anime sometime too :)
The second is my cousin lel. I sent her a couple of pics of it when I finished it and she thought it was really cool. She's liked my toys since I was a kid so she's toy friendly I suppose ^_^

>>11799008
That's a pretty good summary, well done anon

>>
>>11798973
Appropriately, this is the sort of thread that would've made sense 20 years ago when this movie came out rather than today where everyone's collecting something and most toy reviewers you know are married with children. I've personally known women who collect funkos, anime figures, pokemon plushes, etc. Nerd culture going mainstream may be a double-edged sword that's done more harm than good in some respects, but it's greatly helped acceptability.

All that said... >>11799008
>All that money spent on toys could've been used on her or a home for her and her potential spawn, hence the negative stigma.
This is a great point and serves as an explanation for women's disdain for most hobbies that a man enjoys that don't involve her. Sometimes it's the money spent, others it's the time.

>>
>>11799076
Yes, because a guy with an expensive car he can use to take her places and that she can show off to all her friends as a status symbol is the same thing as a collection that stays in the privacy of the home and doesn't benefit her in any way, right? Jesus Christ.

There's a shred of truth in every stereotype, whether positive or negative. We may have wives and children and lead normal lives, but it's in people's natures to fixate on the unusual. If they want to see collectors as misfits, then that's all they're going to see.
>>
Because that's the first-order approximation of reality. Some people really are like that and they're the more vocal or visible ones.

I've been in a happy relationship for a decade now, but prior to that had my fair share of hookups. So much money spent buying expensive cocktails in shitty clubs and pubs.. my toy "costs" barely compare, and they don't end up as puke by a club in Seoul, Berlin or Chicago.
Having a couple figures on my desk makes me happy. Creating some scenes and finding cool props for the figures makes me happy. Building simple model kits makes me happy. That's it.
>>
>>11798995
girls used toys as a practice for real life. girls dating boys, going on dates, riding in nice cars and living in big houses, and riding horses. everything they do as youths are in preparation to take from a man. they have no need for toys as a man is her comfort.

as boys we played to have fun, harness our imagination, live grand lives of adventure, heroic actions, self sacrifice, being a bad ass, and being other people. its no wonder we get taken for fools as we grow up and women were ready from day one to take what they want from us.
>>

Literally who cares, why do you care about being perceived as a virgin loser for collecting toys? If that bothers you so much just do exercises, be healthy and develop a good sense of fashion, never be ashamed of your hobbies
>>
>>11798973
If I cant fuck it, fight it, or feed it it shouldnt exist.
This fag & his toys are 0/3.
>>
>>11798973
Because just like video games they are meant for children, they just release more expensive versions to make the adults justify buying toys calling them ``collectibles``, The virgin part comes from the idea of a person being so absorbed by his hobby that they just ignore the rest of their lives focusing in that particular thing only and since they are not developing a skill or being productive in some way they are considered losers
>>
most people here got it right
i want to point something too, most of the people who hoard and collect too much toys are usually fucked up i used to stalk people -not proud of it- but the more toys they had the more pathetic and mentally fucked up they were
especially trannies and women, the "manlier" the toys the healthier you are

Video games, comic books and cartoons are seen as virgin loser and/or autist hobbies by most people so not sure what your argument is
>>
>>11799492
>Video games are seen as virgin loser and/or autist hobbies by most people so not sure what your argument is
Video games are peak normalfag and have been for years. They out earn the film and music industries combined. Agree with the rest.
>>
>>11799502
Guys that are really into Nintendo (who mostly make kiddy/child friendly games) are seen as autistic manchildren though
>>
>>11799355
It's ironic how men here constantly give women shit for being so easily influenced and obsessed with public perception, then are ready to give up/hide something harmless they enjoy to appeal to them.
>>
>>11799509
That's not really the same thing as being a fan of video games. That's being a fan of Nintendo who are basically the Disney of the video games industry.
>>
>>11799551
That doesn't change the core of my argument though, that adults into things targeted at children are perceived as losers. Nintendo is massive pillar of the video game industry, the most well-known video game company and pretty much the face of video games, so you cannot divorce it from video games in general
>>
>>11799570
Sure, I'm just pointing out that not all gamers need to be fans of Nintendo.
>>
>>11799570
>Nintendo is massive pillar of the video game industry, the most well-known video game company and pretty much the face of video games, so you cannot divorce it from video games in general
Eh, not really. Sony eclipsed Nintendo a while ago. While I agree the type of games you prefer changes how you're perceived and Nintendo games are seen as juvenile for the most part, I was thinking more mainstream dudebro games like COD, GTA, Assassin's Creed, Gears/God of War, fighting games, sports games, and so on. And in women's case, Sims and mobile games. It's very easy to divorce Nintendo from all that.

You could be the biggest nerd in the world but if youre over 6 foot tall and muscular you can get pretty much any woman you want. This guy just needed to looks max amd work out. Then he could have the toys and the girl. He can also look in the mirror every day and know he's the best version of himself.
>>
>>11799001
>>11799107
I haven't been a virgin since I was 18 and the only reason it happened then, versus earlier, was religious upbringing. The closest I dated to a collector type personality was someone into film once and another time, some really into music (expensive stereo, ridiculous speakers, lots of CDs and vinyl, etc.). I have friends into comics, or toys, or some other nerd hobby (cards, vidya, etc.) but these are people I hang out with - not date much less fuck around with.

tl;dr the movie was as artificial as Big Bang Theory - why worry about it?

And you seriously don't know the difference between how men and women shop? Women don't have a plan. They'll see that their friend Stacy has a Live, Laugh, Love poster and because women follow trends, they'll get one too to be up to date regardless if whether she actually needs it or if it will truly bring her happiness. They'll go to an in-person or online store and will be there for eternity just browsing aimlessly and leaving with shit just for the sake of it. Men on the other hand want one thing, will be in and out with that thing in hand in five minutes, do multiple calculations in their head on what purpose the thing serves to decide if it's worth it, and become autistically obsessed with the history behind said thing from what wave the figure is in or the subtle signs that make it authentic.

No, it doesn't. If a guy sees their friend wasting their money on Funkos, Pokémon cards, or coomer anime statues, he's more likely to make fun of him instead of aping him. Now if they both share the same love of say, Dragon Ball, one will "copy" the other out of genuine love for the IP instead of social status.
>this sounds like 90% of guys buying action figures

It could be argued in same way for boys, that boys are just training to die in future wars for their countries, considering the majority of their toys likely military adjacent. Don't stress something that isn't fact or opinion based. The biggest bummer for someone that age just losing their virginity is that older women don't smell as good as younger. I miss being in my 20's. Nothing smells better in the world than a 23 year old chic's asshole.

>Why does collecting /toy/s carry the stigma of "virgin loser"?
Well, I had an experience in March this year that gave me an idea about it, it also made me hate that movie. I'm 42, and had just started seeing this woman, and it was the second time she was at my place where it happened. My guess is the first time she was at my place she was taking everything in and not ready to make judgement out of courtesy of being at someone home for the first time.
So the second time I have her over, she starts in with this hostile attitude. "Why do you have toys when you don't have any kids?". I told her it was a hobby, and that I have my priorities in order and it's not a big deal. That only made her more alarmed. "It is not healthy that you hang onto childhood things like this, it tells me you cannot move on, that you want to be a child". She then tells me I am surrounded by other things that show I have a serious manchild pronlem, that I am 42 and I still live in the first house I ever bought, that I am single while other men my age have children in high school, that I have a job that has a salary equal to what someone in their 20s would be making, but someone in their 40s should be making a lot more by this point. She even brought up the movie "The 40 year old virgin" saying she couldnt believe she had actually met someone like the character in the movie, and she even hesitantly asked me if I was still a virgin. I am not, I told I have had sex, but the look on her face said to me that she thought I was lying.

It was a very, very ugly night, and it finished with her saying she will not be seeing me again but she didnt want me to think of it as a break up, but a wake up call for me to change my life. I like to think of myself as someone that has a thick skin and can take shit from people and shrug it off, but this woman was very attractive, the best looking woman I have ever dated by far, and to get scorched by someone I had high hopes of being "the one", sucked.

A lot of what she said sounds strange as fuck, but this is especially odd. It'd be one thing if you were still living with your parents, but she's saying you're a manchild because you're happy with the house you bought with your own money? Honestly, can't tell if I'd laugh in her face or curse her out for acting so high-handed. Sounds like you dodged a bullet frankly.

>commenting on a movie you haven't seen based on a single screenshot
the figures that are opened are his childhood toys. he has walls and pegs of figures in boxes that are a plot point and metaphor, with him ultimately deciding between the women he thought he wanted to be in a relationship who wanted to sell them because they're mint condition and the woman he fell in love with through happenstance telling them to open them up, live a little and play with them
and if you have seen it, I'm sorry for you anon because you have the media literacy of a 3 year old
>>
>>11801884
You didn't watch the movie either apparently. The only parts about his toys that are in relation to the plot are as follows:

>They're used to demonstrate he's nerdy and reclusive
>his work friends think they're weird and give him shit for it but it's nothing major and more played to show how weird he is.
>He starts dating the ebay store woman and it's played as a joke that he hides all his stuff in his apartment because he's embarassed.
>After dating for a while in a little montage sequence it's shown he's opened up about his collection to the point he's even sharing some of it with her kids
>Eventually she asks him what his life goals and dreams are and he says he wants to open up his own electronic store and she suggests selling his collection to finance it since she recently sold some guy's figure for a good deal of money
>she doesn't really pressure him into it, and never gives him an ultimatum or threatens to leave him over it, she merely wants him to follow his dreams and maybe grow up a little bit along the way, she outright states this to his face at the climax of the movie.
>In the end they get married and it's implied that he's got the financing through selling his collection to open his own store like he wanted.
I swear you guys just make shit up don't you? There was no him deciding between the woman he fell in love with and someone else. The only time that even came close to happening was when he panicked at the thought of moving forward in life with his girlfriend that they had a fight about it and he went and got so drunk he tried to hook up with Elizabeth Banks only to ultimately get cold feet because she turned out to be too freaky. Ultimately he was a retard though because how the fuck do you turn down prime Elizabeth Banks while she plays with her pussy wand in the bathtub? Bitch moves Andy, bitch moves.

Yeah, it's kinda lame I'll never have a chance with a 20 something year old woman again. Shit, I'll settle for a 30 year old as long as she only has one baby daddy I guess.

Why does the stigma of "virgin loser" worry /toy/?

If you don't have your own place, keep a small display. If you do have your own place, keep everything in one non-hoarder/cluttered room.

That's it. It is really and truly that simple.

If you're insecure about it, don't broadcast it.

See you in a few weeks when this thread pops up again.

>>If you don't have your own place, keep a small display. If you do have your own place, keep everything in one non-hoarder/cluttered room.
This is the truth. I have a home office with my collection in it. It's nicely organized and not a mexx. I have a couple of shelves in my bedroom as well but almost the entirety of my collection is stuck in this one room in my house. Don't make your entire living space dedicated to toys. Dedicate a single room for it.

You conflate my economy of words with an imperative.

The point was if you want to collect *and* get laid, scale it all back.

That's advice, Mr. Internet Instigator.

I have my stuff in the bathroom, and the bedroom. I eventually will put a floating shelf in the living room but there's a built-in cabinet and I have a FEW (less than 8) upopened LEGO boxes and model kits "displayed" there (only because I've run out of room to store them and there's no real reason to do something stupid like put them in a box just to stack boxes in the corner or something). A section of the top of the built-in cabinet has a bunch of variant Spider-Man figures that will be what goes on the floating shelf, but even when that shelf goes up, I'll probably still use that built-in for something, it's got about three feet above it that's wasted real-estate. I do have art that can there, but it looks weird above that built in cabinet. If I could rip it out, I would.

I just had sex in my bedroom, on Wednesday night, with all the toys on view.

are they in sealed display cases?
this is why i never buy used. imagine getting a figure that was having fecal particles sprayed on it every day for years.
if i was dictator i would have you tracked down and detained immediately. all your assets would be frozen and you would be subject to a length investigation while kept in a holding facility.
>>

In your bathroom? Do your toys get smelly? Does the steam from your showers fuck with them?
>>
>>11798973
All of the deeper explanations are made up post hoc. Probably someone noticed there are a lot of virgin losers in the hobby. Or someone made a movie with a virgin loser toy collector.

Why are trains the autistic interest, whereas something like bird watching isn't? These associations just happen, you can ask when and where did the association appear but "why" isn't going to have a meaningful answer.

An even better example, why are fedoras associated with cringy internet atheists?
>>
>>11803263
>Does the steam from your showers fuck with them?
The shower is about 5 feet away from the one corner where the toys are. They are also only in the corner, directly below an "Always ON" exhaust fan. I never turned it on further when I showered, until I put the figures there.
YES, I do get concerned.
YES, I swap them out more often and check to make sure they don't look or aren't 'wet' - most of them time - when I am not in a hurry to get out the door.
They don't smell "smelly" to me, but then again, it's like most people don't smell their jockstraps and underwear in a gym bag until someone else points out the smell in their car or laundry basket, possibly?

But it's otherwise wasted real estate.

>>11803250
>imagine getting a figure that was having fecal particles sprayed on it every day for years.
You must be really short, man, that you need to have your action figures displayed at toilet seat levels. I feel for you. The public must be really brutal.

>hostile attitude
Very rude. Not nice people :(
>it tells me you cannot move on, that you want to be a child".
Kind of a jump to conclusions. Everyone wants to be young but saying someone wants to regress back to childhood just because they have a couple of toys is a bit of a reach. Believeable but still a reach. Same with the moving on thing.
>that I am 42 and I still live in the first house I ever bought,
You own a house, thats pretty much a cut above a lot of people lol.
>that I am single while other men my age have children in high school
It sucks but not everyone has the luck to date endlessly or have kids. In fact I'm pretty sure a good percentage of humanity historically didn't have kids or passed their genes on.
>that I have a job that has a salary equal to what someone in their 20s would be making, but someone in their 40s should be making a lot more by this point.
Not always the case for a lot of people. Not everyone can be lucky, have connections, or afford higher education. I'm pretty sure the average salary in most of America is like 30k. At least you're earning something man so don't feel too bad. I mean shit you own a house on a 20 year olds salary, thats pretty bitchin hehe :)
>I had high hopes of being "the one", sucked.
Its a good thing she's not the "one", she sounds like a total bitch. I mean she came into your home, gave you an armchair psychologist lecture on why you are mentally ill and broken after a little over two dates worth of knowing you and then proceeded to insult you just because you weren't up to her standards of what a man should be. Thats just rude /b/ro, you dodged a bullet in my opinion.

This is the problem Anon, looks aren't everything in a woman, it sounds like she would dragged you down if you even had her as a girlfriend let alone as a wife, you got lucky that she revealed her true nature early.

>I am 42 and I still live in the first house I ever bought
A lot of people can't afford a house specially on their own, so this is actually pretty impressive and proves you're actually successful in life, don't settle for low tier women.

you don't know how good you have it. you can't legitimately and spiritually demand a virgin wife. you are pure. unless you are some kind of porn freak then you aren't pure but you can renounce all that and clean yourself up in a way that isn't possible from whoring around/premarital sex. it is better to die a virgin than to debase yourself. become your best self and get a virgin wife even if she isn't "hot". you are in a great position. also the whole man with female friend thing is pants on retarded so don't even bring that up. that is for gays and desperate beta males. for the most part.

I dont think that transformers, he-man, tmnt or gi joe encouraged boys to rape, beat women or pillage cities. boys typically learn to be tough men who protect the innocent and defend their land. pinning the evils of the world on action figures is a little too far left even for you. it could be that youre just a sad, disingenuous little man with some issues we dont care about.

>the more vague i'm about me, the better
>let alone telling them i've a "childish hobby"
now i know there isn't anything wrong with collecting, toys or whatever, unless it's a manifestation of a malaise. Then there it comes the associated stigma because it stops to be an hobby, a pastime, an interest (no matter how innocent, unharmful, legit it could be) and it becomes a symptom of something people want to stay away.
I don't even want the virgin trad wife meme bullshit, nor a cum vessel. But at this point it doesn't even matter since even the idea of me along with a girl is something beyond imagination and i just deal with it

Think about it logically.
If you have a lot of toys, and you're trying to get laid, obviously it's because you want to produce a son that will be able to play with the toys. The woman is just an accessory for completing the true purpose of your toy collection.
It also turns out that the more orgasms a woman has during sex, the more likely the inseminated baby is to be female. Therefore being a virgin who's bad at sex increases your probability of having a son.
There really isn't any problem here besides what women think.
>>
If a collection if only valuable to you then you're a loser if you've spent any real money on it.
