Honestly I feel the same. I like how the original MP Soundwave likes a lot and still want one even with his weird hips, and even as someone who doesn't care for toon-literalism Acoustic Wave looks decent. This seems like a weird compromise between the two with the strengths of neither. The sculpted details look odd without the extra paint apps of the original release.
That said if Takara does a new mould MP Soundwave I'd rather it was an "MP-13 2.0" ala Style Gen Optimus, rather than trying to compete with the FT one. The aesthetic of MP-13 was great, just the engineering is a bit wonky. And looking at how the 2.0 of Bumblebee came out, yeaaaah.

The fact it lets you change out some parts for the toy versions was great

And if we’re talking style gen they should take cues from Studio OX design I think
>>
>>11802828
That is very cool. I think I overall prefer MP-13's style to AW even with the toy parts (also IIRC the toy parts on the sides of the legs can't stay on for transformation, could be wrong though) but I do appreciate that they included options. Honestly, if they re-released it in colours closer to the original MP (darker blue and silver instead of white) I'd probably bite.
>>11802831
Studio OX Soundwave would be amazing. Honestly I'm sad MMC are the only guys doing OX designs, they're so stylish- like designs for a condensed but more coherent and better animated G1 OVA that never happened.

Man all this has over the Leader is size and the tail. And DNA's kit sorts the tail. The robot mode is kinda clunky, the dino mode is extremely janky and the actual sculpting and paintjob feel like downgrades. Plus it's so fucking BIG. I'd have bought a Slug or Scorn at Leader size, but not like this.

>>11802859
Outside of its general jankiness, the sculpt job might be what kills it more me.
The leader class is much more visually appealing to me
Plus the backpacky stuff obliterates the silhouette making his waist and already wide hips look even wider
>>
>>
>>
>>11802887
3P has been selling them for years now, and they're cool designs even if no one cares about the characters. The big issue is that Grimlock looks kinda janky here. But in theory if they did them well they'd have a market, Dinobots always do.

Each one is the best of the series, and the worst. It's truly bizarre and amusing. You take various aspects of them, the humor, the action, the human elements, the designs, the plot, the pacing.. each one does one of those the best, and one of them the WORST. and what order that goes in? is totally fucking wacky
Nobody expected anything of the 4th movie, why the fuck are they doing a 4th? but it ended up having the best plot. and the WORST human parts, as if to say "oh you complained about the human parts before? Here's a guy thinking his 17 year old daughter can't have a boyfriend and treating the guy like a cradlerobber for it, and that's supposed to be funny"
then we're like well okay, for the first time, a good plot setup. How will the 5th one be? uh, WORST plot. Fucking garbage. Dumbest robot mode looks. and yet, DINOBOTS. fucking dinobots. and the BEST human parts of any of the five. We got fucking Agent Simmons back AND Anthony Lilyhopkins, and they are both in top form.
It's truly a mess of a series. the 2nd movie is hot garbage in story pacing, yet it has the best designs of any. It's nuts.
>>
>>11803075
Take a closer look at the proportions
they really fucked this up hard. Liger head is stubby and small in beast mode, yet overly gigantic and sticky-outy in robot mode. Robot torso isn't even the beast torso folded, because of all the electronics, so it's just like this giant filing cabinet turned on its side. shoulders attach to basically nothing. Beast mode legs put all the meat on the feet, so the thighs have to waste away like Frank Moore. Liger paws in robot mode can't even flip around to be melee weapons, they're just hanging out underneath. It's a messsss. And on top of everything else, they kept the transparent nose tab on the liger, which EVERY version after the original changed, or at least painted over if it was a remold.
>>11803083
That would be pretty tits. I am very excited for the new MH zoids.

Mine's finally in the mail, I preordered it from Pulse when I was just a lad. I still think the design could have been better but it looks fun overall. I think what got me to pull the trigger was the inclusion of the diaclone stuff, it just kind of felt like a some nebulous throwback to playsets I had as a kid.
Who are these little guys? Why do they have a giant robot animal? Why does the giant robot animal stand up and turn into a humanoid? I'll never know, but I'll love every second of pitting them against some other random bullshit I've chosen as their antagonist. Maybe they'll fight a Furby.

There is nothing new but then the Bayformers box sets haven’t been anything new anyway, just collections of characters from specific scenes.
Scenes that come to mind for DOTM are:
Optimus, Ratchet and Sentinel from the moon landing
Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave in Africa
Bumblebee, Mirage, Crankcase, Crowbar and Hatchet from the highway chase (with an accurate Crankcase)
Ironhide, Sideswipe, Crowbar and Crankcase from the Mexican standoff
Optimus and Shockwave from Shockwave’s death
Optimus, Sentinel and Megatron from the final battle
>>
>>11803115
>Robot torso isn't even the beast torso folded, because of all the electronics, so it's just like this giant filing cabinet turned on its side
The lower torso disconnects from the electronics box and swings underneath. It's a bit like BW Silverbolt's old transformation.
>shoulders attach to basically nothing.
The shoulders are firmly attached to the electronics box and do not move for the transformation.
>Liger paws in robot mode can't even flip around to be melee weapons,
They most certainly can.
Do you even own the toy? Because aside from the "all the meat is in the legs" comment and the nitpick about the color of the nose tab, literally none of your complaints about the ,old are valid.
>>
>>11803233
exactly. The original silverbolt, with the tail fucking hanging out and the back orientation clearly wrong. or also, the bison guy, uh Bonecrusher.
>firmly attached
sorry I didn't express that properly. I meant visually, they look like nothing attached to nothing via nothing. There's no 'armpit' yknow, no 'deltoid' or 'scapular process.' just.. hangin off.
>do you even own the toy
do I sound rich? I've watched many reviews. the paws can obviously de-transform, but that's not what I meant. They can't flip around while his hands are still in use.
I did have a "a guy knows a guy" deal in place to try to get some of these from japan for a mere 250, but that fell through, so I looked at the proportions again and sour-grapes'd my way to feeling like i dodged a bullet. Was it really that hard to just move some of the shin meat up to the thighs? or just let the robot mode have thicker thighs, would that hurt anything?
>>
File: Claws.jpg (310.8 KB)
>>11803234
>>11803234
>with the tail fucking hanging out and the back orientation clearly wrong.
The torso disconnects from the battery box and swings underneath. The box itself then dislocates and folds down flush into a backpack. The torso orientation is perfectly natural, and he even has a rotating waist.
>I meant visually, they look like nothing attached to nothing via nothing. There's no 'armpit' yknow, no 'deltoid' or 'scapular process.' just.. hangin off.
They're attached to struts coming out of his sides, similar to Armada Optimus' Super Mode or Onyx Prime.
> I've watched many reviews.
Right, so now you're an expert.
> the paws can obviously de-transform, but that's not what I meant. They can't flip around while his hands are still in use.
Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?
>>
>>11803254
yes but silverbolt and bonecrusher DO have the tail. I'm saying it's LIKE those. I'm aware the pelvis swings down, but the abdomen kinda remains in place, and to me that looks goofy. They excuse it by making it a platform for all the extra diaclone weapons.> it looks very unnatural to me.
>you actually found a way to make the paws do what I was suggesting
huh, okay. It's more awkward than I was hoping, but... Acceptable. Okay, I was wrong. But the other points I gotta stand on. We're not really disagreeing, that's exactly what I meant. Armada Optimus's super mode, exactly. Arms are just on these struts. they don't look satisfying.. they're so thin from the front, and his torso has no manliness to it. If not for their insistence on a battery pack, maybe that area could have folded out, making ROOM for the rest of the torso block, and giving him delts. Just saying.
>>
>>11803256
>huh, okay. It's more awkward than I was hoping, but... Acceptable.
I transformed him in a rush for that shot - they can actually fold down flush against the back of his robot wrists, letting him go full Wolverine with no issue (well, except for the fact that his Strike Claws don't actually extend, which is a shame). The things are on a simple armature and attached via balljoint, and they're clearly MADE for you to do this. It is, after all, one of the Liger's primary weapons.
>If not for their insistence on a battery pack, maybe that area could have folded out, making ROOM for the rest of the torso block, and giving him delts.
It's not the battery pack that's the issue here - it's the Shield Liger's side-mounted missile pods that prevent you from doing much with that area, because they have to fold up into his armpits when not in use. The point of putting the arms on struts was to make room so you can deploy the missile pods freely in robot mode; it's totally a compromise made because the Liger's combat gimmicks were prioritized over the robot mode transformation. I've said it before, but it's best not to think of this guy as Optimus Prime - he's very clearly just a Shield Liger who was upgraded by Dianauts to transform, and his robot mode just HAPPENS to look slightly like Optimus. He doesn't even have a Matrix.

Recolor, not remold. Rathalos Prime and Silver Rathalos Prime are physically identical, it's just their colors that are different (and stats, if you're going by the difference between a common Rathalos and a G-Rank Silver Rathalos).

They COULD do it. Bandai only owns the original toy design. They could do CyKill with Wreck Gar or another motorcycle mold.
The chief issue was Crasher was that they lost the rights to the name, hence why they had to rebrand her Crasher for a bit, since they effectively turned her into a Mirage gender swap instead of a sports car like the original figure

They likely will. In Japan no one will mistake a Valkyrie as a Transformers toy so if they do a Skyfire design they'll go with something closer to the animation model but retro it up.

Yeah, I know Hasbro thinks "better safe than sorry", but theoretically they COULD.
They HAVE with Jetfire, despite some of his toys inching close to the original Valkyrie design. Harmony Gold tried to make a case once and were told to go pound sand.
It's just that Hasbro doesn't give enough of a shit about Go-Bot to think it's worth the hassle

Since the motorized optimus kept breaking, why not have a ferrous pinball strike the optimus in truck mode, turning him into the cyberbot mode. Then have a magnet underneath pull him back into truck mode. That way there is only one part that can break.

It's not that they "took the transformation out" - all of the mechanisms are still present. The problem was that, since he kept getting jammed mid-transformation, they just disconnected the motor that pulls him down. It would theoretically be possible to reconnect it and have him transform as intended, but then you'd be running the risk of him getting stuck again.

The vanette isn't even bad. Boomers just hate it because it's inaccurate and leans too much towards Diaclone for them.
>>
>>11804628
It's a good toy, but it only works in the Diaclone play model, which is an aspect adult collectors don't care about (for obvious, understandable reasons). It's a transforming playset. It's so central that I'd argue adding articulation doesn't even matter unless you change other things.

Crasher is a redeco of a Machine Robo that hasn't really been touched in 30 years and even then they took significant liberties. Bike Robo is pretty significant and has had multiple updates. >they totally could have kept the original design but give him a way to shift the arms up and hide a head in the sled.
I think the reason they opted for such a different look is because making the Diaclone Vanette an articulated /character/ is a flawed concept inherently. It was designed as a mecha platform. It's not like the other Diaclone Car Robots that are closer to a humanoid mecha. If they knew the mold was going to be used for a character, they would've designed it differently from the start.
So they went back to the drawing board, and created a Vanette who's robot mdoe looks more like the Fairlady or Lamborghini molds. It still /looks/ like an 80's toy, just one meant to be humanoid from the start.
>>
>>11805487

Let's examine the e-Hobby Go-bots set to see just what precedence is established for how they can use Go-bots.
Bug Bite- basically nothing to do with the Go-bots/MR toy he's named after. Different colors, different design, effectively just shares the altmode
Pathfinder- different colors, based on an early TF catalog colorscheme for Cosmos
Bad Boy- different colors, based off an early catalog colorscheme for Powerglide
Road Ranger- completely original colorscheme
Treds- the closest to his Gobots colors, but still a different shade and some deco placement. A green tank is probably hard to pin down as the same character.
So of this initial wave...almost none of them even share the deco of the MR/Gobots characters.
Now there's Crasher, who's gotten a couple of figures. But Crasher is a special case, her cartoon deco was actually original to Tonka. which means it's one of the few things they effectively own lockstock. They have the colors, not the toy design, so they're free to use it as they like, similar case with Jetfire who's deco is unique to TF, but not his original toy design(Jetfire is damn close to the stock Hikaru/"Rick Hunter" VF-1J/S, but probably generic enough to not raise much of an issue by the rights holders) .
It's very unlikely that they use the exact same deco of a MR toy even on a new mold, because that comes close to something Bandai owns. The G1 Gobots e-Hobby set was as far as they were willing to push it, and the did so by not even naming them outside the bio and changing all the colors.

not a they. also I didn't mean reboot diaclone, but that is a good point. Obviously they felt it made sense to make the reboot diaclone line so collector-focused
I just meant yknow realistic vehicles turning into functional battle platforms is more grounded than alien robots who can somehow fold up into cars comfortably after scanning them.
The kludging of diaclone and microchange made size-changing crap necessary, either of them on their own would have been more realistic.

The old instructions were vague about it and just how to lock them. >diaclone is way cooler and more mature than transformers
I mean the entire concept of interacting with little pilot figures. Obviously the Diaclone Vanette transforms, but it acts more like a little playset. If you're an adult Transformers fan interested in transformations and humanoid robots, G1 Optimus and Sideswipe are pretty enduring and appealing to this day (in my opinion, as someone born a decade after they came out). G1 Ratchet not so much.

New TM Tarantulas. NEEDS to be a Voyager because not just the extra engineering involved for the motorcycle mode, but because this time each spider leg needs to be fully articulated, unlike the original toy, which only had one joint per leg. It really does not much to do since the original toy was more or less perfect. It just needs to be one slightly bigger and two extra joints. I wouldn’t mind paying Voyager price for that if they did what I asked..
>>
>>
>>11805728
the only way he could have been better is if the legs formed proper like, believable pedipalps, and then maybe the sides of the calves or whatever folded out to be chelicerae. I always headcanoned those motorcycle exhausts on his upper arms as flamethrowers - both because it seems pretty obvious they're intended to be weapons in robot mode due to their placement, and as a bit of a gotcha to Inferno for torching him just before the Quantum Surge transformed him.

You can't own a color scheme.
Bandai put out Crasher in both the black and white scheme during their heyday. If they own the rights to the white scheme then they would also own the rights to the black scheme. You're saying nobody can ever put out a black racecar toy because of that?

I like TJOmega but I absolutely don’t get when he says that a potential TM Rattrap has to be a Voyager class figure. I can understand for TM Tarantulas because like I said, that would have to be a little bit bigger of a figure plus the complexity of the transformation to motorcycle mode Rattrap doesn’t seem to really have that much transformation. Everyone being triplechangers ate more into the parts budget, so most didn't get any "extra" guns at all, or have guns with gimmicks like before. Thus, most just used animal/vehicle parts as melee weapons (which the show sometimes just used as guns anyways)
>>11805832
Incorrect, and your pic even shows it. Tarantulas's shoulders could fire both missiles or machine gun shots. Whether you can or not, Takara has opted to avoid anything close historically. The Gobots set share none of the colors of the actual gobots except Treds, who falls under a green tank being too generic a color.
There is apparently a limited release black Porsche robo in some markets, Japan didn't seem to get it though.
it's probably just not worth rocking the boat to homage a failed US franchise when Takara has a civil relationship with Bandai these days, down to doing some collaborations.

I thought the point was that since they were now robotic beasts and organic robots, they'd use more melee/close combat weapons to show they're more savage.
Op Op, Rampage and Depth Charge just had guns though. Mega Primal is sort of borderline, he has the blaster but it's basically a club shooter.
There's nothing that would've stopped say, Cheetor's tail whip from just being a gun, so I would say the lack of guns is intentional and not just a budget thing

Basically, when you get right down to it, lawyers are fucking criminals. They're like prostitutes, they offer things for sale that shouldn't be for sale. And while their customers aren't exactly innocent, they're dealing with a temptation that should have never been offered to begin with.
Until it once again becomes illegal to profit whatsoever from the outcome of a court case, except as either the accuser or the defendant, we will never have justice. Just like we'll never have democracy again until nobody can profit from the coverage of debates. Money is an important thing, it's downright sacred, like sex. And there are things it should not be associated with, so that it has the freedom to associate with literally everything else.

Bike Robo figures are still on shelves and as long as it's withing squint range of similarity then there's no point in them making it.

I've said it many times in this thread, you can't just claim a color scheme.
all I did was originally post a digibash >>11804111

I think there were more in the comics/fiction around it. Like a bunch of the wreckers like Skywarp and Rodimus, and Alpha Trion, Ravage and Quake but I'm not that guy and it never bothered me.
I was going through a list of unproduced Botcon exclusive ideas and apparently we were going to get a Rodimus out of Optimal Optimus or TM Rattrap at different points too. And a Predaking out of Tigerhawk.
Also funnily enough with all the talk about Cykill we almost got a rule 63 Cykill from Prime Arcee for Botcon lol

I feel like ML Dillo shouldn’t really count as a remake. Also, fun fact, the only reason Spittor is here is because 3H originally wanted to use the Japanese exclusive character Goosher, but then Hasbro announced they were adapting CR so they had to switch to the original version of the mold instead

Easy, Takara has no rights to the designs used in the shows, and likely can't reference any repaints. Meanwhile, any toys by the license holder are strictly based on the look and features of the TV version.

She doesn't come with a Core class - Dazzlestrike is a Battlemaster. So yeah, the pricing definitely feels off - but remember that there have been several price hikes since she was released the first time.
>>
>>11806870
Just track down a Lionizer - it's the same mold with the same colors, except Dazzlestrike has a green stripe in his gunblade.
Given Lionizer shelfwarmed pretty hard, you shouldn't have any trouble tracking one down for a decent price.
>>
>>11806928
>Is that worse than her original pricing?
Yes, but it's also a hell of a lot better than the around $200 she goes for on the aftermarket.
I bit and ordered her, hoping Runabout is next. Honestly Hasbro gets cool points for these re-issues and fucking over scalpers.

nobody is acting like it's crazy. They're just saying it doesn't match the original toy which was the point of ML. You can rationalize why all you want, but a lot people who liked ML for what it was doing don't see the point to this.

I had no idea Botcon 1996 was so shitty and Pulp Fiction themed until today. Tfwiki never lists profiles when I get bored and look shit up.
>BotCon 1996was held onJuly 12-14, 1996, in Rosemont,Illinois. It was the only convention overseen byMen in BlackProductions, who inexplicably chose to infuse the convention with aPulp Fictiontheme. There were no guests aside fromHasbro/KennerrepresentativesGeorge BoznosandAnthony Gaud.
>To celebrate the tenth anniversary ofThe Transformers: The Movie, MiB held a "birthday party" featuring a screening of the film on a wide-screen TV and a birthday cake. A verygenericbirthday cake. The sealed VHS copy ofThe Movie—opened just for the occasion—did not actually work, although MiB were somehow able to acquire another, functional copy from an attendee after several minutes. Unfortunately, that did not alleviate the fact they neglected to produce forks for the cake. Also, water was served as a drink out of a McDonald's keg (not even that cheap Hi-C orange drink they normally use).
>The dealer room opened to the dealers for setup hours late, and was opened to "early bird" pass holders almost immediately afterwards.Dennis Bargerof Men in Black assured dealers that their wares would be safe in the convention hall overnight, as he would be sleeping in there to ensure nobody would intrude.
>No lanyards were available to dealers or attendees. Identification was done via generic "HI MY NAME IS _______" stickers, which the staff ran out of by day two, resulting in people just waltzing in unchecked by the end of the show.

Cool - so we have Chaos (though APelinq may be a closer match) and Blizzard. Throw T-Wrecks in as-is as Diablo, and do an orange repaint of Barney Megatron as Sauron. Some slight retooling to Dinobot and Dilophocon can make for a decent Talon and Vertigo. That leaves...who could we use as Armadon? And should we include Necrosan to the roster as was originally intended?

It's kinda charming how lowrent the early conventions were. Honestly the fact that they were able to get Hasbro to make a new redeco at all is pretty impressive, and it's a cool one. Apparently they had a bunch of overstock which is amazing to me because this is a cool looking toy. Nightracer was the first, but a smaller run and basically cobbled together from spare parts.
Was any other convention at the time able to commission a toy company to make a new redeco at the time? I think we take it for granted how unique that is for TF conventions.
>>
>>11807463
>She's, like, the main character of the show
Not possible when she was only introduced about halfway through the second season. Primal was arguably the main character - he's the first one to turn Technorganic, he's the one who gets the special connection to The Oracle/Vector Sigma, he's the mentor figure to all the other characters, and he's the one who has the final showdown with Megs - twice. Botanica gets saved from her otherwise derelict ship, then...sits in a garden for the rest of the show. She never even fights anyone.
>>
File: G1-toy_DoublePunch.jpg (178.7 KB)

>all I remember was her saving Cybertron at the end
...she didn't do jack shit, dude. That was Primal who sacrificed his life (and Megatron's) to release all the Sparks and reformat the planet. She was literally hiding in the little technorganic garden the whole time with Rattrap.
Seriously, did you even watch the show? She was barely even a character.
>>
>>11807561
I think you misunderstood anon a bit
what he's saying is that when hasbro rereleases something that goes for a high price on ebay, it fucks over those ebay sellers who were scalping (along with those who just innocently wanted to resell something they no longer want, or whatever)
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11807628
the weird part to me is they didn't just give him turbo thin legs, like they did for most people whose legs have to turn into something like a gun handle or whatever.
or here's a wacky idea, have the tail turn into one leg, and then a second leg fold out from all that ridiculous bulky torso meat.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>11807622
That's still not scalping, that's just selling something for what it's worth. Scalping would be buying up all the stock because you know it will have extreme demand or to cause artificial scarcity, neither of which were the situation with Greenlight.

It’s really a shame her and Lyzack probably won’t get toys anytime soon due to rights issues. Also, fun fact, Esmeral's name is directly romanized, but her name is meant to be a counterpart to her husband’s, whose direct romanization is Deszaras, meaning “Esmeral” is probably wrong
>>
>>11807561
Explain why/how Greenlight became $200 or so valuable beyond "well the guy selling her said so" then retard. You don't need to buy up warehouses worth of a figure to flip to qualify as a scalper, you just have to be out to rip people off.

Considering she collected dust at all three of the Ollies around me at $8.99 until two years ago when some how the stock was just gone? Seems possible.
>>11807551
That seems like an interesting gamble because sometimes those values are just stagnant retards that won't budge on their "rare" items. It's the biggest problem in most communities now is that the value is just retards sitting on the stock hoping they will someday get a sucker.
